What caught our attention was the name. Decided later on we'd try it out because we were starving and it was close by. Despite there being a line service was fast and we got our dawgs within about 10 minutes. My boyfriend ate his dawgs in 3 bites and was ready for more. Definitely try it out, the food was great and so were the shakes! read more

I LOVE places like this! Small, local, delicious. We arrived to Devil Dawgs after I had done a quick Yelp search for good hotdogs in the area. I personally would not want to eat an actual Chicago style hotdog, as I dislike most of the toppings, so I figured this would be a good alternative. We ended up getting two bacon cheddar dogs and a bucket of fries. Honestly, this place reminded me a lot of Five Guys. The hotdogs were very good as were the fries. I liked that the hotdogs came on a poppy seed bun even if they weren't the traditional Chicago style. Would definitely be back! read more

Small in corner hot dog restaurant, almost like it has just evolved from a stand to an actual space. Not a single person in this quaint little place but I looked at the reviews and trusted them. I am so glad that I did because this place makes a great Chicago style dog! Reasonable prices and quick service makes it an ace in my book! read more

Devil Dawgs - South State - Hot Dogs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Decided to stop by Devil Dawgs while visiting and have my first ever Chicago dog. The first bite delivered a sweetness from the relish, tang from the pickles and mustard, followed by spicy heat from the onions and peppers; lastly, the tomatoes leveled off all the flavors and textures just as I took my next bite. As if the Chicago dog wasn't good enough, I also ordered a strawberry banana milkshake and fries. The fries were mediocre but the milkshake, without a doubt was one of the best I have ever had...it tasted like a banana split in a cup. The food was well worth the trip, but the prices are unbelievably cheap. Definitely a must every time I am in Chicago! read more

We loved this place! The dogs had a nice snap to them and the bread was toasty. We normally don't go to the same place more than once when traveling but we broke that rule for them, it was that good! read more

Great food. Didn't expect it to be that good. I'm very picky about hotdogs but I loved their Chicago style. Next time I'm in the Loop definitely stopping by. read more

Legit Chicago dog. Small spot, but steady line of customers. Would also recommend the onion rings. Everything wrapped up so you could take it to go. High tops & a few regular tables. Lots of napkins on the table along with ketchup and mustard (messy, but worth it). Served Pepsi products. Great shakes! Very large, perfect to split. If I had room I would've tried the burgers. Gave 4 stars because temp in restaurant was intense in the front while the sun was setting. Visiting from Florida, but apparently Chicago is having a heat wave. So not sure if norm. read more

While in ChiTown I wanted to have a Chicago style hotdog and Devil Dawgs was first on the list when I searched. Not only do they do hotdogs but they also do burgers and more. I ordered the Chicago Dog and it came out hot and ready. Not large so you might want to order 2. The flavor was superb. After finishing the hotdog I read a newspaper write up in the wall that said if you thought the hotdogs were good, the hamburgers still the show. Soooo, I went back and ordered a burger. I got "The Elvis" a peanut butter, bacon and siracha sauce burger. It also was small, more like a slider, but full of flavor too. Quick and accessible service. read more

Great dogs, I don't love the polish sausage but the regular old dawgs rule! Quick and good- order 1 more than you think, they're so good you always want more. read more

The food and milkshakes are very good. Honestly, some of the best I've had in the city. The service is laughable. They make their own rules. Will answer the phone in a different language just to throw the customer off for their amusement. Other than the terrible service, the food is good. read more

Seems like every time I order from this location they never give me all the items I paid for. If it's not several sauces, it's a shake, if not the shake then missing fries or wrong order. Even after I made it clear that I wanted a certain number of items and was charged for said items. I love the food but the service is pretty horrible. read more

Simply delicious! There were a variety of all beef hot dogs & sandwiches. I scarfed down a "Bull Dog" which was batter-dipped topped with bbq sauce, coleslaw and cheddar cheese on a lobster roll. The 1st bite had a nice kick! I was able to finish it but needed to be rolled out of the establishment. I didn't really care for the onion rings but hey I came for the dawgs!! You can get a malted milkshake too! I'd definitely will be back! read more

I love everything I eat here! From shakes to fries to burgers to dawgs to chicken sandwiches

This is the spot where I lost my Chicago dog virginity - and it was not exactly the same messy, insides-rearranging, slightly guilty but otherwise a dame fine experience that I associate with the other hot dogs I've eaten (lifetime hot dog consumption total: 783). They really "drag (the hot dogs) through the garden" - a garden of pickled, radioactive-bright and sodium-rich veggies. The crunch and flavor of the veggies added a lot to the you-will-already-know-what-this-will-taste-like familiarity of the hot dog, and the bun was tough enough to not combust into a pasty goo-ball. I would heartily recommend this place to vegans as a cruel joke. read more

Super rude. I've never seen a grown adult so upset about taking my order. My friend went ahead of me and was appalled at the service he got. So I went out of my way to be super kind and very thankful. Got nothing In return. Not even a "thank you". Got the coney with cheese. Not impressed. Barely any chili and fell apart. I could make a better chili cheese dog with a can of chili at home. Paid $7 for a hot dog with terrible customer service. read more

Expansive menu. Gives me Jim's or Maxwell Hot Dog vibes. Too bad it's the only place that's open late at night in the neighborhood.

This place offers great Chicago hot dogs and polish, we loved them also the fries is a real Jem as it is home made. You can have a very good meal with a very convenient price. read more

Definitely matched our expectations for Chicago dogs. Unusual combinations, lots of toppings, vegetarian options etc. still can't get used to the glow in the dark relish, but everything else was great. read more

I would give the food 4.5 stars all day. Very tasty. Here is where my issue lies: They now automatically add gratuity on your credit or debit card and the only way to not pay it is to take the time to consciously remove it. As opposed to ASKING you if you want to add gratuity, which to me is acceptable and the same as the large jug with large writing that says TIPS. Again, if you take the time on a screen to ask, and let me pick, EXCELLENT! If you automatically include it and make me take it away on quick takeout, FAIL. SHADY. Oh, and their online menu still has their lower prices. Now that you raised prices on hot dogs, how about taking the time to update your menu for consistency? I have 20 years in the service industry, and this is not acceptable. I will definitely get takeout, cash only (and tip because I like to be able to help the hard workers AT MY CHOICE), but would be ashamed to manage a place with shady practices. B read more

If you live in Chicago, there are a infinite of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. When is time for a quick bit and creativity I head to Devil Dawgs. The Chicago Burger is amongst my favorite thing to order but I also enjoy the taco dog. The price isn't completely bad and once you bite into your meal you'll understand it's a reasonable price. Although their fries are something to be desired, their shakes are top notch. I also find it weird that a hot dog place is known more for their shakes lol. I recommend giving any of there locations a try for lunch or a late night snack after leaving the club or bar. read more

A solid cheap burger place with great fries, a good variety of options. The hot dogs are simple but really well made. The Southern Slaw dog with coleslaw is a delicious surprise. The dogs are cooked just right and make a little popping noise when you bite into the casing. The Chicago dog is solid served with a great relish. This relish is also on the Chi-burger. The meat patty on the burgers is not amazing, but good for the price and well prepared and topped with good cheese and bread. The fries are much better than average. All and all, a good, inexpensive and authentic burger joint. Better than other pricier sit down options in the neighborhood. read more

So great! You get what you see here. Got a Chicago dog and a shake and enjoyed every bit of it. No nonsense kind of place where you order get your food and move on. Wonderful! Would definitely make it a point to go to one of these in Chicago. read more

Devil Dawgs - South State - Kimchi on a dawg? Great idea! Blue Demon wth sauerkraut, onions and a pickle! Nice! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

In search of a Chicago style hotdog, this delivered. $10 got us a colorful, tasty dog loaded with fresh toppings and a $5.75 seasonal shake. That shake hit the spot, fast food perfection. Large, thick, creamy, caramel apple with lots of little fresh apple chunks and topped generously with whipped cream and cinnamon dusting. Like apple pie a la mode in shake form. Would love to come again and get a malt, or any one of their other shakes like ancho Chile and chocolate, Oreo, Heath bar. And props for offering veggie burgers and veggie dogs too. read more

Please don't waste your time coming to this location. The people working here are more interested in talking with each other than their jobs. They do not have a restroom!!! When I asked they said try 7-11. They said no! I came back they said try Jimmy Johns. I went there. They said no!! Ridiculous. Ruined my dinner that there is no restroom and employees have nothing to suggest. I don't care how good their food is!!! read more

Devil Dawgs - South State - The photo does not adequately capture the great flavors of my lunch!! Wonderful food!! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Hospitality should be at least a little thought about. How hard is it to not be rude to every guest?

My fiancé loved this spot! He chose this place to have his first Chicago dog and did not regret. I was so pleased to see veggie options for me -- I didn't expect it so I decided to try a veggie dog, Chicago style. We also ordered fries with chilies and cheese to share. The service was efficient but still friendly -- it was a busy night with Plenty of college kids around so I was pleased with how quickly we got our food. My only gripe is that they did not label the veggie dog. It would have made things easier to identify. I thought I would be able to tell on sight but I was so surprised that I couldn't!! Just a "V" label in marker or pen on the paper around the dog would have helped. We devoured the fries -- such good cheese sauce!!! Highly recommend for a variety of delicious dogs (seriously so many options!) and fantastic fries. read more

We stumbled upon this place on our way walking to the Bears game. I had two Chicago style dogs with fries and my GF had a veggie dog. We both loved what we had and the price was reasonable enough. It's a good thing we don't live in the neighborhood because I'd be hitting this place way more than I should. I've been eating Portillo's dogs since it's beginning in the original trailer. Devil Dawgs blows Portillo's away. read more

Great food - 4 stars. SHADY management, always up to some bullshit to save a dime, or charge more. Latest is their cc reader - automatically adds 18% tip. As is, I seriously question tipping a walk up food joint anyway (I do anyway), but to automatically add it? No Bueno. read more

We randomly looked up hot dog shops near where we were the day we visited Devil Dawgs. This happened to be the closest one to us so that's where we went. BOYYYY am I glad we did! We walked in during lunch hours and the line was almost to the door, I knew we were in the right spot. If somewhere has a line like that, you know it has good food. You could tell they are regularly busy because they worked like a well oiled machine and cranked out order after order nonstop. Our wait to order was under 10 minutes and wait for food once ordering was under 5 minutes. Very quick for how busy they were! They have a great selection of hot dogs and sausages as well as sliders that looked good too. The milkshakes looked REALLY good as well and I don't think there was an item on their menu I wouldn't try. My only regret is that I don't live in Chicago because this would be my go to lunch joint HANDS DOWN! read more

DRUNK? ...High? Boy is this the place for you. We went to Devil Dawgs around 1:30am after a Phish concert, where we witnessed a multitude of spaced out, no need to get anywhere, painting staring, meme creating, Bernie lovin, millennials. The line was out the door and not a single person in line was even phased by the wait time. We heard things being said, such as "Not all heroes wear capes," as a young gentleman passed the Fry Cook and gave him the power point. After we got our food, we understood the wait and the crowd it attracted. Fabulous late night food, and would definitely go back! read more

My family and I stopped here for dinner on our first trip to Chicago. My husband's first remark was, "we're coming back here for lunch tomorrow." They offer Hot dogs and hamburgers and vegetarian counterparts (yay!). I had the Chicago Veggie dog, which comes with mustard, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and relish on a poppy seed bun. My husband had the Blue Demon (devil sauce, onion, sauerkraut, pickle, spicy mustard) and loved it. Our family of 3 shared a bucket of fries (fantastic, fresh cut) and it was more than enough. The restaurant is small with only a few tables inside, so you may need to eat and walk if it's busy. We didn't have a problem with that because it was not peak meal time. read more
