I took an adult watercolor class for three sessions in December. I signed up for this class because…read moreI am familiar with watercolor but I wanted more ideas, tips, and techniques to improve my skills. For the first session, we had a sub for the class and she seemed apprehensive on how to lead the class. The two hours consisted of us essentially having free time to paint and a few basic brush movements. The second class was then led by the main instructor who seemed more confident and taught us basic skills such as painting wet on wet, dry on dry, etc, however this should've been done the first week. Additionally, the supplies we were given were not great, most of the paints we were given were out of certain colors and we were given a small number of papers and had to request for more if needed, which felt unnecessary. After she went over these ideas, she let the class go on Pinterest and choose a painting they'd like to replicate. She would walk around and give positive praise, however, did not offer feedback or various ideas on how to improve the painting. I love the concept and idea of this class, however, I'm disappointed this felt more like a free paint time rather than an instructional class for paying almost $200.

This 123 acre urban wildlife refuge & outdoor classroom, is a hidden gem right in the city! What…read moreonce was an irrigation reservoir in the late 1800s is now a refuge & a great way to connect with nature in NE Denver. Bluff Lake has a variety of habitats & is home to deer, coyotes, fox, raccoons, birds & rabbits just to name a few. The day I went I saw many, many rabbits! In their outdoor classroom they host environmental science programs for elementary school students. The trail is easy & family friendly (about two miles) that goes around the lake. Check out the cool boardwalk while there. This was a peaceful & serene way to spend the afternoon, with pretty views of the mountain range. To access the trails you'll need to walk down lots of steps or take the paved walk, ADA & stroller friendly. They also host monthly events like, Bird & Guided Walks, Family Nature Adventure Days plus After School Programs & Mini-Camps - check out their website for more info. Things to know before going...it's free, open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset, no domestic animals, no drinking water & only Porta Potties at the entrance & along the trail. Also, no motorized vehicles & bikes. Go & enjoy the beautiful outdoors at Bluff Lake!

Four of us went to The Wild Animal Sanctuary recently, and it was such a cool experience. Getting…read morein was quick and there was plenty of parking, which already made the visit feel easy. Before heading out onto the walkway, there's a large tent with food and a space where you can watch a short video explaining the sanctuary's mission and the work they do. I appreciated having that background because it made the whole experience feel more meaningful once we were out there. It was also nice that you can grab food and bring it out with you. Obviously you cannot feed the animals, but you can enjoy your own food and bring a water bottle while you walk. I grabbed a slice of pizza on the way out and appreciated that flexibility. The volunteers were genuinely kind and clearly passionate about being there. The facility itself is huge, you walk along a long elevated walkway that stretches over the habitats, which gives you a really unique vantage point. We had beautiful weather and great visibility, so we were lucky to see a lot. Some animals were lounging, some sleeping, and others were playing around. I liked how each enclosure felt thoughtfully set up and spacious, you could tell they are trying to give the animals an environment that suits them. If you are an animal lover, it is absolutely worth checking out. I do think it can feel a little expensive without a membership, but when you see the scale of the property and understand the work they are doing, it makes more sense. Overall, it was a really special way to spend the day.

We try to come early January so we can see the eagles when they come through. We missed that window so there were only a few that we saw this time. The highlight on this visit was seeing the dog pack in the visitor center. as well as watching one of the tigers stalk another that was peacefully snoozing and their ensuing play. The walk was breezy with a slight chill, but the day was lovely otherwise. Always a positive experience.

I've counted on them on multiple occasions, most recently for my artwork I sold as a vendor at my booth at Goldens in Golden. My account manager was Tina, who was so helpful, accommodating, and patient. I had a little health emergency in the middle of the week I promised my deliverables, and she bent over backwards to help me out, working alongside me with another vendor I was working with to get my products finished and completed for my deadline. On top of all that, their paper recommendations were excellent and the printing quality was top notch. Their pricing is competitive and I love that I can personally pick it up, see proofs, and talk to a human being and not a chat bot. AND, there are dogs to pet when you go in. So, DUH. I will absolutely use them again and again. Thank you, YellowDog!
