We lucked out with the place not being too busy. After staying the night at a budget motel down the street, I found myself at Desserts Etc. on my morning coffee run (the free coffee in the hotel lobby just wasn't going to cut it). This place caught my eye due to the very well landscaped front and inviting porch. The inside is too cute with a little sunny spot with couches and a mouthwatering refrigerated case offering all sorts of sweets. I grabbed a large medium roast coffee (with a free flavor shot - Friday special! Check the chalkboard), a delicious lemon/blueberry muffin for me and a delectable cherry danish for my better half (he gave it two thumbs way up). We stopped off here during our last day at Hershey. The desserts looked amazing, but tasted awful. Among my mother, daughter, and Myself, we had a peanut butter fudge bomb, a cake pop, and a cream puff. We ended up throwing most of it into the trash. PB Fudge Bomb - way too sweet. The peanut butter core was bitter and the chocolate was pure sugar. Cake pop - my daughter, who loves anything sweet, would not finish it after two bites. The "cake" was so heavy it resembled fudge...and not in a good way. Cream Puff - should be called a pudding puff. The "cream" tasted like Boston cream that had two extra cups of powdered sugar mixed in. The shell was flavorless and crumbly--not flakey, it actually crumbled. Granted, we don't like overly sweet stuff, but this was hyper-sweet, sweet on steroids. Yuck! My mom and I agree that this was the worst dessert place we've ever visited. As an out of town visitor, I have to admit it is a Cute spot in Hershey with so many yummy looking desserts. The seating is plenty and charming decor- not sure if they have free wi-fi though ( I ordered to-go). Unfortunately, the strawberry smoothie I ordered was terrible and I was very put off by a rude cashier the first time going in (older lady). The young lady who took my order & made my drink was very nice though. I did end up going a 2nd time cause it was right across from my hotel and I needed a pick me up and did end up enjoying the frozen hot chocolate that time. I thought this place was going to be amazing since its owned an operated by the Hershey Pantry folks and I've long been a fan of their breakfast--which is one of the best in Hershey. I'm not a big dessert person, but my boyfriend wanted to check it out. We opted for the Sunday special which is buy-one-get quiche (slice or whole pie). The quiche was tall, perfectly browned and looked very inviting...but it was extremely light and under-seasoned. When you peer into the dessert case it is both overwhelming and impressive, yet there wasn't anything that was begging me to try it. But then again I'm not into desserts. Everything looks amazing, I'm just not sure the taste matches the aesthetics. We topped off our quiche with a cookie. Again, it was very large, but it was just a cookie. Nothing special. The other thing that irked me was the coffee situation. They had Pete's coffee. I don't have an issue with Pete's. I quite enjoyed the Pete's cafe on campus in school, but for a high-end dessert place I would expect a coffee offering to match. With the selection of independent coffee roasters in the area, I would have liked to have seen a local offering. Plus there just weren't a lot of coffee drink options. I don't know. Not impressed. I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday this past Saturday. The cake cost $156 and was basically inedible. The "buttercream" icing tasted like a mix of crisco and butter and was like chalk and the cake itself fell apart. I had 3/4 of the cake left over because nobody liked it and the people ate the 30 cupcakes I ordered from Sam's Club instead ($16). I called the manager at Desserts (Jessie) to see what could be done about this inedible cake that I paid $156 for. Not only was she rude, she refused any refund and stated that their buttercream icing needs to be served at room temperature to taste good and be edible I guess, yet nobody told me that during ordering this cake or at pickup. In fact, the cake was frozen when it was picked up. Why would they give a frozen cake to me on the night of the party when they say it has to be at room temperature?? I will NEVER order anything from Desserts again!! And everyone at the party won't either because they tasted this junk firsthand!! I've also told as many other people as possible so they don't pay an exorbitant amount for an inedible item! DITCH DESSERTS and go to Sam's Club or Costco!!! read more

Beware! I am from out of town and ordered online. I called to confirm that my order went through. I was reassured that my birthday cake would be ready for Saturday pick up. We drove in and waited over an hour for them to not find my cake. After they searched the entire store, their solution was to give me a cake that was already prepared, and in the case. Not the specialty cake that I had already ordered and paid for. As my husband and four kids slowly came into the store to see what was taking so long to pick up the cake that was already purchased they did not offer anything else for our long wait and losing our cake. While I was there, there was another gentleman that had a similar experience. They were unsure if he had paid for his cake or not, and wouldn't let him leave because they couldn't find the slip. There are so many rotating desserts and there really is something for everyone wether it be vegan, kids desserts or adult desserts they have it. We were in Hershey for several days. The first night in town we found this place. Very upscale with great looking desserts. They have beautiful cakes and desserts, many individually sized. We purchased an apple cheesecake and shared it. It was delicious. It also happened to be gluten free. My companion's son has celiac disease so he has to eat gluten free. The next day we picked up some gluten free cheesecake and cupcakes for her son. I got a non-gf lemon bar. It was good and he loved the stuff we got him. On our third trip more GF cupcakes. Also good. The Javiva, their version of a frappachino was really flavorful. Maybe better. Lots of caramel n espresso merged delightfully and perfectly. We ordered about 4 desserts that were huge! Oh my god!! You need to check out this place. They have so many amazing freshly baked desserts. So much they cannot fit them all in the show case!! Stopped in while we were passing through Hershey, PA. When we followed the Yelp directions there is a little glitch, the restaurant is across the street where it takes you. The bakery is opposite and a few buildings down. But Sooo worth the stop. They are not over priced, offer a nice selection of breads, loafs, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and other treats. I ordered a cake for a baby shower and felt the person working with me wasn't all that helpful. I gave her a detailed sketch and web pix of how I wanted the cake to look, a 2-tier fondant-covered cake based on Kate Aspen's Woodland Baby theme. The flowers on the bottom layer were supposed to be kind of vining around the layer with a pink fondant bow on the top. The bow was nicely done, but the other decoration was disappointing. Instead of intricate vining and texture, the flowers were just painted on, very basic flower shape on straight, green vertical "stems." I had thought they would offer some design help, which they didn't, told me that textured fondant flowers were "not in their wheelhouse." In addition to the extremely poor food from Hershey Pantry, the food part of the shower was extremely mediocre and disappointing. This is not a high-end cake place. Once again Desserts etc, has provided delicious and quality treats for our family gathering. The staff was very helpful in guiding me to make selections for several dietary concerns, and be able to accommodate those people. Along with that, they made and decorated a delicious couples cake for our daughters wedding, that was the exact flavor they had originally chosen when the wedding was to be held in another state. 3.5 stars. The desserts here are absolutely amazing. They both look and taste amazing. I've gotten cupcakes, brownies, coffees, teas and more here and have loved them all. The reason for my deductions is the limited space and the unfriendly staff. The entire place is cramped and not made for more than 3 parties. They have steps that lead to an upstairs area, but customers are not aloud up them. They need to have it roped off or at least a sign, because it is very misleading. Also, the staff is very unfriendly. Whenever you ask a question they seem annoyed. Whenever you stare into the case, they seem annoyed. Overall the staff just acts like they have better things to be doing. While I love this place, the staff keeps me away! read more
