Gently Used Books section - Bookshelves filled with a variety of books are arranged against the wall at Book Bar in Palmyra, PA. A table covered with a patterned cloth displays an assortment of gently used books. A small chalkboard sign in front of the table indicates sections for 'Other Genres' and 'Children's/YA and some New!' books. The setting appears to be an indoor book sale or display area within the bookstore.

This place is so cute! Books, coffee, trinkets- I'm in love. Brittany is the owner and barista and she is very friendly. I ordered an iced Campfire Latte which was delicious!

A wooden A-frame chalkboard sign features handwritten text in various colors, advertising limited-time drink specials such as Beach Head on the Rocks and Cherry Chai Cosmic Love Latte. The sign includes details about ingredients and prices, with some decorative elements at the top. It is positioned on a wooden floor against a textured wall, indicating an indoor setting, likely a bar or cafe.

This place is every book lovers dream! It has everything from new to used books in a variety of genres! It offers a cozy vibe to read your book and sip on one of their many drinks!

The image shows the interior of a bookstore cafe with multiple bookshelves filled with a variety of books. There is a cozy reading nook with a chair and a small bookshelf on the left side. The space has warm lighting, wooden flooring, and a ceiling fan. A customer is seen browsing in the background near the entrance, which has a glass door allowing natural light to enter.

Check the days and hours before you visit. Lady Matilda and I come to the market for our meats and spices, grab a soft pretzel or three from the Amish kiosk, and see what the Bookworm has to surprise us. It's a friendly shop where they remember you and your tastes. I've converted a lot of clients and friends in the area who were quick to dismiss it as just another dirt-mall book dump. Absolutely not. The store carries the professionalism of classic independent booksellers with the fun of a friendly mom-and-pop store. Take a break from the busy market on your next visit.

There's so much to see inside, with all kinds of book genres all well-organized and easy to search. The staff was incredibly friendly and approached me twice to ask if there was something they could help me find. They knew where everything was and knew sometimes even before they'd look what was on the shelves and what wasn't (or what just sold a couple of days/weeks ago). Very insightful and their kindness made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for the used book lover!

Definitely "Books-A-Million " with the largest selection of books for adults and children. If you're in the market for a hard-copy magazine, it's sad that digital has reduced the overall selection. This location wants to be Barnes & Noble so bad that the experience is almost the same. It's not terrible, but it isn't innovative or special. The bargain sections often have interesting gift books, but the joy of finding that uncollected special order in a clearance bin is now a distant memory. If I want to buy someone's bestselling hardcover for 90% off, I can snatch it up here, assuming I don't want to wait for the free shipping from Amazon or another online resource. I regularly find more interesting books at Ollie's just up the road. I found nothing here worth waiting in line to buy in the past year or more. Granted, the store is clean, and the staff is helpful. It's just wholly unremarkable as a bookstore. If your thing is toys for adults with disposable income (aka collectibles), they have a huge section surrounded by hundreds of Funko Pops. But there is nothing here I cannot find online and possibly cheaper. I typically only visit when Lady Matilda is over in the Michael's located next door, and, as this is deep within the retail hellscape that is Colonial Park, I try not to come by very often.

You can get lost in the stacks across multiple levels of the buildings. There is ample seating around a performance stage and overhead in the gallery. I appreciate the layout where people can gather in the main area around the stage, but then slip away into the stacks to browse or have a quiet chat. I can buy a book and a pastry and people-watch from a table overlooking the stage or just write in peace to the sound of jazz or the gentle rhubarb of polite conversation. In Harrisburg, it is a great place to meet people who share your interests, especially during these events. I've found it easy to talk with people about various subjects, which, as this is a "scholarly" bookstore, makes a lot of sense. I've actually managed to locate a few rare tomes and art pieces here over the years. Communication, however, is spotty. I've sent several inquiry emails that went unanswered. I've made phone calls where the callback with information never came. When dealing with the staff, they are cordial and professional with the immediate sale, but never seem interested in me or my money if they have to do additional work or communicate with me. I now only approach them looking for material if other locations fall through. But overall, if you want to spend some time with the kind of books you won't find at your local B&N, dive into a complex topic with the latest academic text, or just find something new and interesting, this is worth a trip to the city.
