Ambiance: Crazy Auntie does not have a theme. She owns the essence of art and vibe. Sunflowers? Check. Stone walls? Yes! stained glass? absolutely. Fireplaces in August? Why not?!!! So. FREAKING FUN!!!! The service was on spot. Seated before we walked in. Served before we looked at the menu, but we didn't feel rushed. Food came out and we all attacked each others plates. YUM YUM YUM I literally took my mimosa for a walk around the place and read the walls. Articles posted, original art and photos. So cool. There is outdoor seating. Tap is available. Anyway the tables were kept clean, the ice tea, water, lemonade never went dry. Refills were plentiful. The condiments on the tables were clean. The bathrooms were clean. We placed our order at the counter and our food was brought to our table. There is a self serve beverage station-coffee, water, and soda. Also condiments. Solid 4.5 stars…read more Tunnel Creek Cafe is such a great little spot, especially if you're heading out to explore the East Shore Trail, Monkey Rock, or the Flume Trail. It's conveniently located at the end of Lakeshore Boulevard, with a great outdoor patio offering seating on both the lower and upper levels. The food has always been delicious! My personal favorite is the BLT, made with thick-cut bacon that's absolutely worth ordering. A friend recently had the turkey pesto sandwich, which was warm, cheesy, and gooey, almost like a grilled cheese with turkey. Their lattes are also great, complete with beautiful foam art. I haven't tried breakfast yet, but I've heard wonderful things, especially about the French toast! The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and happy to offer recommendations. You order at the counter, receive a little GPS tracker, and they bring your food right to wherever you're seated. Super convenient! I've stopped here several times after enjoying the East Shore Trail, even taking advantage of the break to charge my Onewheel while grabbing lunch. The outdoor seating is fantastic, especially on a nice Tahoe day. There's also a dedicated parking area for cafe customers, with paid trail parking nearby. Whether you're fueling up before a hike or grabbing a bite afterward, Tunnel Creek Cafe is definitely worth a stop. I'll be back to try that French toast!

We met some longtime friends for dinner last night and it was relaxing and tasty! We started off with some robust drinks and apps! Ahi Napolean was the highlight with the BBQ/Spicy prawns coming in a close second. Three of us ordered the Lemongrass Ginger Brick Chicken and it was tender and juicy with just the right amount of Asian spices. We all raved YUMMY!! My wife had the Rack of Lamb which she enjoyed and I got to sneak a couple of bites...tender tasty. My friend's son had the Grilled Ribeye which was massive and oozing with juice. The Finale! Dessert is never an option with my Sicilian taste buds so Tiramisu and Pistachio Cheese Cake sedated and cleansed our palates! The overall dining experience was good as we sat outside on the patio with a perfect evening and no bugs in site! It was fairly busy and the servers were definitely having to add a couple of steps in their service. It's a beautiful spot almost on the lake and if you're a golfer, Old Brockway GC is a stunner and has some great history to go along with the perfect greens. Enjoy!

My husband and son got the burger which was boring, and my youngest wanted pasta with butter and marinara. The kids menu was confusing and we assumed it came with a side so we asked for veggies. When the bill came, we got charged $2 for the marinara and $7.50 for a side of veggies (2 pieces of cauliflower, 2 slices of squash and 1 broccolini). So his $10 kids meal ended up costing me $19.50. On top of that the hostess was incredibly rude.

I grew up in Tahoe in the '70s and '80s before leaving to pursue a career in the Navy, so whenever I'm back on the South Shore, I appreciate places that have managed to hold onto that comfortable, old-school Tahoe feel. Bert's definitely does. The food here is excellent, and apparently the secret is out. Even during the off-season there's usually a wait. It's worth it! On this visit, my wife and I had come to Tahoe for the day to rent e-bikes and needed some serious fuel before heading out on our adventure. Since it was already midday, I went with lunch and ordered the Reuben. Great choice! Piled high with pastrami, sauerkraut, melted Swiss and plenty of dressing on nicely grilled rye. My wife went the opposite direction and stuck with breakfast: over-medium eggs, French toast and bacon. Once her plate showed up, I immediately started questioning my lunch decision. So naturally, I compromised and ordered one blueberry pancake for us to share. And THAT pancake deserves a special mention. Bert's doesn't use some generic premixed "just add water and an egg" pancake mix. They make their batter from scratch, and you can absolutely taste the difference. Light, fluffy and beautifully browned. And no sad little freeze-dried berries hiding inside! These were fresh blueberries bursting with flavor. Add some butter and syrup and you've got one seriously good pancake. The service was every bit as enjoyable as the food. Our waitress and the folks keeping the coffee and water topped off were friendly, attentive and genuinely fun. We had some great laughs with them, which made the meal even better. Bert's has that increasingly rare combination of scratch-made food, generous portions, friendly service and an unpretentious old-school café atmosphere. There may be a wait, but there's a reason people are waiting. Highly recommended for breakfast or lunch on the South Shore. And whatever you order, get a pancake. Trust me.

We started with the sage and cheddar biscuits, which were wonderful, and the glazed pork belly with chili crunch with toasted cashews - the combo of the nuts and pork was really delicious. We then had the Niman Ranch pork chop and grilled steak frites. Pork chop came with creamy polenta, mushrooms, and a blueberry glaze - I'm hungry just writing about all this. The chop was grilled to perfection - moist (no pink meat) and nicely charred for the flavor. The glaze is a hint of sweetness and the creamy polenta is a winner. The mushrooms are an excellent compliment. The grilled steak was also cooked to perfection - medium rare. The flat iron steak is such a great cut of meat. The fries in duck fat were very good. For dessert, we had a chocolate masterpiece. The meal was well priced considering the location and the time of year. And while the meal was special, it was the service that really made the experience special. While being utterly professional, the staff is also friendly and on top of it. I regret I didn't ask the hostess her name, but she was excellent - filled our water glasses without being asked once, and asked if we would like clean utensils after our appetizers. Our server was also excellent. I'd have more pictures usually, but we were so hungry after a LONG day at Sand Harbor, we forgot!

There was some confusion about the heat lamps apparently, we were told they would not be turning them on for us, we said that was fine, we hadn't asked for them to be on. Then the server dnd her trainee came over and asked if we wanted the heat lamps on. Um, ok, so they do work? They had signs up saying no dogs as well which we were wondering about since it seemed like it would be a nice outdoor area to have a well behaved fur companion. We started with the cheddar biscuits- we felt they were average at best. Wish we had skipped them, not worth the calories for sure. My hubby loved his angus burger and his duck fat steak fries with truffle aioli. Hubby asked if they had any hot sauce- we were told they made it in house. He liked it enough to ask if they sell it.
