Hi all- I will post pictures as soon as I can. We hired Paul to finish our basement in Winchester (1300 SF or so). This consisted of removing an existing old carpet glued to the slab and installation of vapor barrier etc and bamboo flooring. I am not an industry insider but these jobs can be tricky due to uneven surfaces etc. The finished floor is perfect- there were no gaps or uneven surfaces. Transoms were perfect too. We were very pleased. We were thinking about trading up to a new approach for the walls. Paul suggested and installed wainscoting, baseboards and chair rail around the whole perimeter of the basement giving the inside a magnificent look. As we discussed the project he learned that I wanted to have a billiards area. He helped select the best location for a table and suggested that the chair rail be wider to accommodate cocktails and such. It was a great idea and his implementation makes it transparent. To handle the shift in rail widths he suggested trading up to include a cue cabinet integrated into the wall. That came out beautifully. Other comments: Every aspect of the job was on time and budget. His team is by far and away the cleanest crew I have ever worked with. We were extremely pleased with his honesty, work ethic and personable nature. I will hire him for all future work on my home-- outstanding to work with. On one other note, my mother-in-law passed away during the project. I barely remember mentioning it to him but the next day flowers were delivered with a sympathy card for my wife. My husband and I couldn't be happier with the work done by Design Works- the process was easy and the end result was amazing. We'd just bought our first home and were looking for a budget friendly kitchen and pantry upgrade, including new cabinets, a granite counter top and some plumbing and electrical work. Call Paul! He and his crew are FANTASTIC Paul at Designworks is a great collaborator and one of the most detail oriented people I have ever worked with. He is efficient, fair, honest, and has fantastic ideas. His crews and sub-contractors are very solid and they are the CLEANEST contracting crew I have ever worked with. Paul has done a couple of projects at our house in Newton and we are planning more. Paul's "special sauce" is his ability to really work on fine details and get a job just right. He is more focused on quality than quantity and is patient when it comes to the really intricate finishing points. Paul designed, crafted and installed a beautiful fireplace in our house working with the stone people and tile people to really create something new that matched our Arts and Crafts living room just perfectly. During a second project, he re-did the windows in our dining room, removed an obsolete radiator and finished the walls and trim perfectly. As anyone knows finding a good contractor is sometimes next to impossible. We all want a contractor who is reliable, dependable, cleans up after themselves, and who won't take months to finish a job. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with Designworks because they surpassed my expectations. I called Designworks and spoke with Paul after a co-worker recommended them. She had used them for several projects in her home and was very satisfied with their work. My reason for calling Designworks was not to get work done in my home but to diagnose a potential problem and that's exactly what Designworks did. My wooden floors were buckling and I didn't know why. They were able to accurately diagnose the problem- tell me what had to be done and what was involved; give me a very reasonable estimate for the work and the length of time it would take to complete- and fix the problem. we found Design Works on Yelp - having heard enough stories of people whose projects did not go the way they wanted, we decided to pick a company whose customers were willing to give an online recommendation of five stars. Paul came to the house and listened to our goals for the work and gave us some great recommendations and a very fair price. Our real test came when we had to plan a family trip around our work so that we were all out of the house when the floors were being replaced. Paul worked out a plan with us - kept on schedule and while he and his team were working long hours in the cold, taking care of every detail, we were happily sunning ourselves on the beach without a worry in the world about what was going on at home. Paul kept everyone on schedule and we moved back in on time and the work looked amazing. Designworks was recommended to us by a neighbor, so we went with them to upgrade the bathroom floor, as well as the back-splash in the kitchen. Paul at Designworks was very helpful about suggesting where to get the tiles, and what would look good. He was on time to start the job, and arrived on time throughout the course of the project. When it came time for instillation Paul and the team were very careful not to make a mess or cause any damage. They thoroughly cleaned at the end of each day, so that the house was not a mess. Paul was also good about dealing with some curve balls. The tile company ordered some of the wrong tiles, but Paul was very good about resolving the issue, and communicating with us about the situation. The quality of the work was perfect, and we are very happy with how both projects came out. I would recommend Designworks to anyone, and plan to do more business with them in the future. read more

I recently had my bathroom totally renovated, top to bottom. It was surely the largest home project I have ever had done. I was nervous about cost, and about time, as it is my only bathroom. A neighbor referred me to Paul at DesignWorks Company. They exceeded my expectations in every way. Paul anticipated my questions, and always had the answer. I felt like he was working only for me! He was very responsive to my calls and emails. He even took me to the tile store and helped me pick out my tile. The finished product was awesome. A beautiful new bathroom with great fixtures. He had some innovative ideas, as my bathroom is really small, including installing a closet behind the bathroom door for storage. I love how it came out. I bought my first home, and it needed work. We had some time between the purchase date and our move-in date. Paul worked with our schedule and was able to get all of the essential work done prior to our move, allowing us to place things where they should be rather than forcing us to move our furniture around as things were done. The work itself is spectacular. Paul's attention to detail is impeccable, especially in areas that aren't necessarily the most looked-at or traveled (corners, edges, transitions). Paul is also very good at providing updates of work and was able to easily add in a couple extra small pieces that I asked for. I had to spend a little more on the purchase of the house itself than I wanted, so I was unable to afford to re-do the kitchen this year, but I'm actively budgeting, and will be re-hiring Paul to oversee that process as well. read more

We were extremely pleased with Paul's work. We had a full kitchen remodel done (full gut job, knocking down a wall to connect dining room and kitchen, new cabinets, plumbing & electrical work). All along the way, Paul and his team were very professional and accommodating to our schedules. He provided detailed estimates and outlined all the work that would be performed. We had an extremely old and dilapidated and tiny bathroom which was our only full bath. We had a great experience with Designworks who gutted it down to the studs and then rebuilt it beautifully. They showed up on time every day and there were no interruptions in the work except one towards the end waiting for more flooring, which actually allowed me to paint so it was an advantage. Since this was our only shower, not having interruptions in the work was a major concern, but it worked out well. Also they cleaned up nicely every evening. The work is top quality. Paul was very helpful and patient before the project started working out all the details and costs. He was very responsive on email. Paul from Deignworks, recently put a new deck and shutters on our home. He was patient with us, giving many choices and prices. When we couldn't decide what kind of shutters we wanted, Paul made us his own custom pair.The finished product was awesome! We love our deck as well. Paul was very detail oriented when it came to our kitchen remodel. When he came over to talk over the project, he brought samples and gave us a few options on where to buy cabinets. We were on a budget (as most people are!) and we went with Ikea cabinets. He drew us up a layout and then we picked out the cabinets. He was always on time and the kitchen was clean as can be everyday when we came home from work. He completed the work when he said he would and there were no surprise costs. Paul is a real professional and as courteous as it gets. He's done some small jobs as well as a complete redo of our basement (replacing the floors and some damaged walls). About three months ago he turned our small office into a bedroom by creating a door way and installing a door. The wooden door began to swell and wouldn't close. He came back, months later and spent over an hour making the door just perfect and even repainted the areas he needed to alter. Design works took my sketch of a new 6 foot long base cabinet with sink and created a beautiful funcitoning unit matching my old 1930 cabinets in my Cape Cod cottage.They replaced all countertops, and cabinet hardware. The blending of old and new is amazing. They installed a new exterior door and storm door, as well as some outside trim repairs on this house. They are very organized and neat and always leave the space under construciton cleaned up. Paul has great sense of style and can recommend a build which is both appealing and funcitonal. Design Works Company did great work! I contacted them to put in new flooring in my living room and it came out looking wonderful. They gave me a time and they showed up exactly when they said they would. The cleanliness of their job was outstanding. The 2 days design works company was at my house, they not only cleaned up their equiptment, they cleaned up everything and put my place back to the way they found it.
