We recently purchased a 2/1 house in Westchester and decided to add a master bedroom/bath and convert to 3/2. Design tech have finally finished the project and we loved it. We've also installed engineered hardwood throughout the house and it looks beautiful. Very pleased with the way that the wheels work at this complany. We had to table our interior remodel and addition due to some personal business and we notified them that we're not ready to get started after we signed back in 2015. They were dry cool about it and asked us to let them know when we're ready. Last nov 2017, we called them again and said we were finally ready to get the project started. We're basially done, they are doing final touch ups now and should be done in a week or so. The house looks beautiful and we love working with Miko, he's a great designer and he's very on top on the workers and people in his company. In my first review of Design Tech, I basically wrote them off because they failed to return my initial phone call from back in January, I hear that's common among construction companies. But I decided to give them another shot as they're so close to me. I'm looking to spend over 100k that my house desperately NEEDS., Including an entire new roof and a bathroom addition. Sad to say, all Design Tech did was to waste lots of my time with a constant stream of double talk along with all the typical characteristics of incompetent construction companies. read more

If I could give those guys 6 stars i would have. we were referred by the real estate agent that sold us the house. they worked on a house a few blocks away and it looks great. We wanted to remodel the kitchen, 2 bathrooms and install new hardwood floors throughout the 1st floors but we needed someone that would help us with the design as well. we had our kitchen redone and redid the flooring throughout the house with oak engineered flooring. We hired Miko and design tech team after getting 3 bids. They were very laid back and knew how to work within out budget. We did end up spending a tiny bit more over all but we love the great service and the kitchen looks amazing. From implementation to completion, everything was easy. I had a partially completed kitchen and needed to finish it. Not only did he match the granite countertop to the existing one, but the cabinets were as close as could be. The end result was both functional and beautiful. I trusted these guys to my first time rent house in LA. I did a lot of communicating over the phone and through my partner. Design tech was very concerned about making sure that I was happy with all aspects of the job. The fine touches the crew made and their attention to detail was amazing! Remodel started about March 2016 and was supposed to be a 6 week job, but we didn't move into kitchen until end of July. It is still not completely finished and Joe Malul, contractor, finally abandoned us. Wood floor was installed - solid hardwood, not acclimated, installed and sanded within a week or two of bringing into the house. Now it is cupping. They used oil based poly, which according to the other 2 experts we have had come in, is illegal in City of Los Angeles. They did not notify us that they were using oil based (so we didn't leave the home) and my 9 year old son had an asthma attack after 3 years of being asthma free. Wood floor finish was not matched to the existing wood floor at all. When pressed, the wood floor installer supposedly claimed, he used what he always uses - rather than find a coating that matches the gloss and color of current wood. The 2 wood floor specialists we have had to come look to see if they can fix it have said it was poorly installed and poorly matched and will charge us $3000 and up to fix which will require sanding down all our floors and refinishing. Garden window took 4 times to install properly and it is still not level. First time, they thought we ordered the wrong size because they had no experience with this type of window. When store we ordered it from said it was the right size, they installed it. They put it in the old window opening which was actually smaller than new window. Even though the plans were posted clearly in large size in the kitchen for reference. Then they reinstalled by widening the window opening. However, it was not level and they did not move the window opening as was in the plans and was discussed in detail with contractor. They installed again to try to level it. However, we realized it was still not in the wrong place. We brought it up to contractor, he measured and his guy measured and they asserted it was correct. However, my husband pointed out that their measurements were incorrect - their measurements did not go to the center of the window! So 4th install - still not level, we gave up. Also, husband oversaw the install and they were putting in shorter nails towards the end and he asked them why - they said they ran out of the longer nails. They were also putting fewer nails. He went and got long nails that they needed and they finished. If he was not there, they would have put too few and too short nails because they ran out of proper nails. Further, during one of the installs, they simply folded the paper over the edge of the window rather than putting flashing. We hired a separate certified window installer for consultation and he said that was not correct so we asked them to put flashing (which seems to be standard practice but they said, well, we always do it this way). Floor and wall were completely unlevel with huge bumps where they installed new beam and took out cabinets - they installed floor over this bump and put drywall in and didn't bother to look at whether it was level. Cabinet guy had to do a lot of work leveling and there was huge caps at one end of cabinets which we covered with some molding. However, due to unlevel floor, cabinets are higher on one side and dishwasher had to be raised 2" to fit in space and one edge of the floor looks really uneven with molding. Tile - I ordered very expensive special tile. I was worried about whether the installer knew how to install this glass, see through (translucent) tile. He said he did and showed pics of a darker color of what may be the same tile so I said great! He assured me he knew what to do. I supervised the install and he was putting it up wrong. He made trowel marks in the tile adhesive which you can see through the tile. He said this was the only way. I called the people who sold me the tile and they had to explain to him how to do it (directions for the tile were available but installer did not bother to read them). In the end, most of it looks really nice, but he didn't finish very small area and some of window work needs to be fixed. Joe agreed to fix it, but abandoned. Hood - not installed properly according to recent kitchenaid tech and doesn't suck air through vent. Also dented towards top and looks like bad, but we were willing to live with that. Fridge - not installed properly - hood guy happened to notice it wasn't leveled and fixed it for us - freezer was not closing properly and doors not aligned. oven - they had installed it only level from side to side, not back to front and said we don't do that. Not the correct way to install a wall oven - they did fix it. cooktop - cabinet guy had to fix gas line install - he said it was done wrong plumbing - we had to have a plumber come and fix the drain as it was installed with a kink and caused a link - plumber said bad install. too long so enough read more

Our house leans towards the Moroccan And Dutch style. We were contemplating for some time renovating the place but wanted to make sure we preserve the style and character of the house. We found Design Tech on Yelp and met with Miko after meeting several other contractors. What we really liked about Design Tech is that they do both constructional well as design. It has been over a year since the job was completed and we could not be more pleased with the results. We ended up opening a large Moroccan archway into the kitchen and relocated our laundry room to allow for a free standing island to be situated in the center of the kitchen. The job ended about a week after the original due date but this was primarily due to our decision to install wood floor and stain it in order to match the rest of the house instead of the tile we had originally planned on going with. Miko and everyone on his team were super respectful and courteous and we were extremely thrilled with the end result. Great work! read more

Me an my wife were refereed to Design Tech by my wife's sister who hired them to add another master bedroom/bath to her house and we had a similar project in mind. We have remodeled parts of out house in the past but it always been a long tiring experience. Joe is the designer and the contractor. He measured our property lines and house and came back with an amazing new layout and design options, 3D, and some rough sketches, until we agreed on a layout and cost. We got the permit 3 weeks later and got going 2 weeks later. As they started the project, they blocked off the new and old part of the house with temporary wall and temporary access between the old part and the new, and that was one of my favorite parts if the great workmanship of Joe and his guys. In short, they did an amazing job, and took us through every step of the way to choose finish materials, colors, wall paper, molding and more. Our new master suit look like a magazine picture and we're in love with it. We're saving up right now and planning to have them do our kitchen and new laundry room in a few months. In a nut shell, wonderful designs, construction and workmanship, and it wasn't frustrating at all since the temporary wall literally sectioned off the house from the new addition.
