Sorry, this is so disappointing. Yes, it's "a natural stone product", however we didn't order it with a chip, only to be covered up or concealed with epoxy. The seam down the center of the sink, the joints weren't flush and are uneven and the bullnose edge doesn't even line up. Did not expect that we would end up with such poor quality from a company who has been in business so long. read more

There was a variety of quartz, granite and marble to choose from and Mike was glad to show us ones we may have missed. Once we found what we loved, measurements were taken, quote was given. Myself and my designer took the selected material for each space to three different local granite yards; Mike & Cindi beat all of their prices. Also, the manufacturing/install of solid surface counter tops should not be overlooked! Craftsmanship is key because a botch job will quickly ruin a beautiful surface. We hired Mike to install quartz countertops in our kitchen remodel in June 2015. He came out to template and saw that our cabinets and sub-top were installed and level but our doors were not yet put on. Then he came back and installed the quartz counters and our doors were still not put on. He didn't say anything about the doors needing to be on either time he was in our kitchen. When the countertop installation was complete, we tried to put our doors on but they wouldn't close because of the countertop overhang. This was the case on every single lower door and drawer. We lowered all the hinges to their lowest setting but the countertop was still in the way. We called Mike on a Saturday and told him what was happening and he said that we should have had our doors and drawers on before he templated. After a short conversation where my husband asked him to come out and look, he said that it was our fault and our problem and then hung up on my husband. I tried to email Cindi the following week to see if we could arrange a time for Mike to take a look. Just to see if there was a way to trim the overhang or something. After lots of back and forth emails we were told that it was our fault, we should have known to have the doors on, and they would not be doing anything to help us. So for the last year we have had no lower doors and drawers on our kitchen cabinets while we save up the money to replace the faulty countertop. It's not worth the money you save by working with Design Images. Literally, you get what you pay for. Faulty installation and poor customer service. read more

Let's get something straight right off the bat: Mike has some great machinery that does excellent CNC work. What that means is that he can take a template from a sink, or whatever other cutout you may need done, and perform it with near perfection. Furthermore, his edge detail is really nice too. The mitered corner edge profile he performs is some of the best I've seen in the business. Here's what makes me cringe when I hear a client say they found their granite at Design Images: the owner. Mike. While he is talented, and does excellent work -- he's also a condescending jerk. I make it a point to avoid the jobsite when he's around. He cannot work with other people, he lacks communication skills when critical thinking is required to come up with a solution, and he'll be happy to tell you you're wasting his time if you need any advice on something that he doesn't want to do. My parents had him install some granite on a bathroom remodel they did a few years ago. He told my mom she was an idiot, to her face, in front of my father. Wow. SLO county doesn't have too many fabricator/installers that do the level of quality that Mike will do. But, I'd take ANY other vendor over him just so I don't have to deal with his rude demeanor. When I do have Mike on one of our jobs, I intentionally schedule him when no other sub-contractors will be around to prevent any scuffles. It's a shame that he can't focus on being a better team player. read more

I received an email from Yelp saying that my review was flagged for not meeting their guidelines. Apparently I wasn't specific enough about my experience here. I went in to match some travertine after calling and being put on hold then dismissed with a "You have to bring it in," and click, they hung up. A few days later when I went there, someone yelled at me that I couldn't park where I did. So I moved. Upon entering the store, there was a man on the phone. He ignored me for a few minutes until he was done with his phone call. I showed him my sample. He looked at it and said, "No, can't get that." No offer to look it up, no offer to try to match it, no offer to try and come up with an alternative. I got the impression I was bothering and irritating him so I left and went somewhere else where I was treated much more professionally. read more

We hired DI to fabricate and install countertops for our remodeled kitchen and two bathrooms over the course of two years. It was a pleasant experience and we can only recommend Mike and Cindi's expertise. While it is true that It may take a little longer to get an estimate sometimes, it is worth the wait as the craftsmanship speaks for itself. We had our kitchen bathroom counters done by them. In the end, I am halfway satisfied with the work but not with their customer service. First, we went to get an estimate. There was no one in the showroom. The door was unlocked but no one was there. After standing around for about 10 minutes, someone came out of the backroom. This was something that continued to happen several times in the following months. Sometimes someone was there, most of the time we had to wait for someone to even show up. The estimate took a very long time to be emailed back to us. However, once it was done and the contact signed, they promised a specific time and stuck the schedule. They even came and demo-ed and installed the granite in less than one day. The granite was beautiful and everything fit beautifully. We were very very happy. But it was short lived. First, we noticed there were tons of debris under the countertop inside the cabinets. Not just a handful, but several dust pans full. Even after over a year later, some debris will get dislodged as I move things around in my cabinets and new debris will fall down to this day! This is gross and unacceptable. Secondly, there was a small hairline crack in the granite near the sink! We discovered this within a couple of days of the install. Once of those things that's hard to see at first because of the pattern of the granite, but once you know its there its all you can see. Mike came back and he "fixed it" by putting some kind of glue or sealer on it, but its still very visible and it bothers me that we have a brand new countertop with a crack in it already! Thirdly, they installed the new undermount sinks and sealed it. We didn't use the sink for 2 whole days to make sure it was fully cured. Within 2 days of actually using water on it, it began to bubble up and peel off. When Mike saw it he said it must be something we did, like use inappropriate soap (we use Dawn). He peeled it off and resealed it. Acted pretty annoyed about it while he did it. But said if it happened again we were just out of luck and were gonna have to live with it. Of course, within one day it started doing the same thing. We didn't want to deal with his annoyed attitude again, so we removed his sealer, went to Home Depot and got a white silicone sealer, and it the work ourselves. Guess what? Haven't had a problem with it for almost 2 years. After paying $6000 for granite and labor, I would've thought they would make sure the seal was done properly instead of blaming the soap and saying there's nothing they can do. Basically, the combo of dirty demo/install, cracked product, and bad service with the sealer make this place unfit for my business again. read more

Shame on me for not checking the online reviews before hiring these folks to work on our outdoor kitchen's counter. We dealt with Mike and his wife Cindi. All we needed was one counter with a BBQ cut out. On the positive, DI has a reasonable selection of slabs, and I was able to find what I was looking for. Cindi, though not necessarily nice, is not rude. However, in addition to being unresponsive, late, and delivering poor craftsmanship, Mike has the foulest, nastiest, most condescending and entitled attitude we have seen in a long time! After weeks of cajoling him to engage, he finally went to the property to template while we were not at home... during which time he urinated on our brand new house (caught on security cameras). Once we asked them to perhaps relieve themselves elsewhere on the 20 acres of wooded property and not against our master bedroom, they pouted and threatened to quit the project... no apologies. More weeks pass, and they finally install the counter with multiple issues. It has an asymmetric reveal -- 1.0" on one side, 1.5" on the other -- where it should have had no reveal at all. And the reveal has unfinished edges that expose the miter cuts! After another few weeks of emailing back and forth, he agreed to come by to see what could be done to mitigate the poor visual state of the counter. He arrived with a massive chip on his shoulder and within seconds he was barking, yelling and screaming at us, blaming us, the structure, the framing, our hand-drawn sketches, and everything else under the sun for the asymmetry and the crookedness of the counter! And the icing on the cake: he asserted that the unfinished exposed miter edges is "how things are done." Perhaps in your book, buddy! read more

We were remodeling our master bath and our contractor suggested we go to Design Images for the marble. I met Cindi and with her guidance I was able to find the exact marble slab I was hoping for. Cindi was so friendly and helpful and knowledgeable, she made the selection process a breeze! 6 weeks after coming out and measuring they were back for installation of my gorgeous marble vanity countertop which was even more beautiful than expected!! My experience with Design Images was disastrous. Mike is intimidating, rude and dishonest--after he has a contract with you. He does inferior work and will not return calls to finish work--except to threaten you! He installed a broken backsplash hoping I wouldn't notice. I had to have another company finish his inferior installation! Be prepared for a major headache with your remodel with DL. read more

My husband and I used Design Images December 2017, to install granite counter-tops on our new kitchen cabinets. We visited several granite shops before making this decision. We are so pleased we did! The craftsmanship and attention to detail was more than we could have imagined. The lines and seams of the cuts are not even noticeable. It looks like a slab of granite was laid down and molded to conform to the different heights and levels where the granite changes. We literally went to the shop probably 35 times before committing to the texture and color of the granite we picked. There was a huge selection of granite in the colors we were looking at. We were able to view and touch the granite without any pressure or someone looking over our shoulder. We only paid for what we used! All the other granite shops wanted us to buy entire slabs, wasted granite and money. When looking for the right cabinet shop we were told "Design Images can sometimes be hard to work with". People you get what you pay for! Cabinets HAVE to be and should be constructed to account for finished granite edges. Most cabinet builders don't consider this, even after being told by granite installers to set the counter tops out to a certain measurement so the granite edges are perfectly set. Mike, Cindi, and Dave want you to get the kitchen of your dreams and they want to provide you with the best craftsmanship possible, if this makes them hard to deal with then you should probably consider installing tile. We can not express enough the quality, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and willingness to work with us they were able to provide. You will not have one regret using them for your next counter-top install. They are the best of the best. Thank you Mike, Cindi, and Dave. Mike did a real nice job on the granite vanity top and tub deck for our master bathroom. He uses state-of-the-art digitizing equipment to take the measurements of your layout as opposed to making templates out of wood slates like some other fabricators do. He uses CNC equipment to fabricate the slabs where others may be fabricating by hand. You can see much greater precision and quality in his work. He also puts more care into preparing and bonding the granite for the double thick edges of the slab so you don't see the seam nearly as much as with other fabricators we've used where you can see the seam a lot. He promptly showed up to do the measure after we signed the contract and installed the granite in a timely fashion. They would have got 5 stars but Design Images has a fairly limited slab inventory so you kind of find yourself settling on something they have in their yard where you might have found something you really like at another yard. Mike expresses reservations about fabricating slabs that come from other yards, which I can understand, since he doen't know what will be handed to him for fabrication and he would need to assume responsibility for it from that point on. read more
