Her paws were covered in blood so we wiped them with a doggie wipe, you can see where she cut too much

If I could give 0 starts I would! I took my 3 mo. old puppy to get groomed for the first time and honestly taking her here was the biggest mistake! When I got to the establishment there were dogs everywhere, I wasn't too comfortable leaving my dog there not knowing if the other dogs had gotten all their vaccines (which btw nobody asked for vaccine records), also nobody was wearing a mask there! Not even when they approached to talk to me, nonetheless I still decided to leave my puppy with them because I like supporting small businesses... I had told one of the groomers that I had cut my puppy's nails a week ago and that she didn't need them cut again, she said she would just file them which I thought was ok... when I picked her up she seemed scared and ready to leave, thought it was normal since it was her fist time, she was whimpering the whole way home but just thought she was scared of the car ride; when we were almost home I noticed dried up blood on my arms, my pants, my sweater and the car door, I quickly checked her doggie chair and there was blood all over it too! When I got home I checked her and her nails were bleeding, not just one but 4 of them! When we called to see why nobody had mentioned it we were simply told that they had forgotten, I was furious!! how could you forget something so important like that! We were told to take her back and she would put some sort of oil to help ease the pain, we drove back and she took her to the back to put the oil (which to be honest I didn't notice anything on her paws but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt) she said she had file them too much and that she was moving so much she had to ask someone else to hold her, she also said that her nail was going to take a while to grow back because she had cut a lot, she then mentioned all the other services she offered but needless to say we won't be coming back. Worst experience I've had with a groomer!

    They do cats as well.

Denise was so kind! She even lent a carrier for our cat Lucy. Thanks so much. Lucy got home and is very happy

Denise is incredible with my puppy Clyde. She fits him in when it's emergency and always does a beyond thorough job. She has quite the pack of poodles and he just fits right in. Thank you for caring for my poodle

Today I took my 6 month old Yorkie, Lucy, to Denise for her very first grooming appointment. From the moment I booked the appointment I knew I could trust Denise with my baby. Knowing it was Lucy's first time, Denise took her time with her and her patience shows in Lucy's haircut!!! The puppy cut Denise did is adorable and exactly what I had in mind. Being a first-time dog mother, Denise gave me lots of tips and info on keeping Lucy looking good (let's just say Lucy was a bit ragged looking when I brought her in). I will definitely be taking Lucy back to A Cut Above on a regular basis to keep her looking spiffy. P.S. - there was no urine smell.

I was a little worried about finding a groomer for the first cut on my 5-1/2 month sheepadoodle since I wanted her to have a good experience and not end up hating being groomed. Plus not all groomers are experienced with the doodle cuts. I was able to get an appointment reasonably quickly (especially considering the restrictions have just been lifted) and Denise listened to exactly what I was looking for in her grooming. Though my dog was a little nuts and not a fan of the table, she looked fantastic and clearly didn't mind the groomer herself or have issues being there overall. I plan on working with my dog between now and the next appointment so hopefully she'll be more accustomed to being tabled. I would definitely recommend A Cut Above and actually already have!

I have a very shy Aussiedoodle that I groomed, myself, for the first two years of his life. Once he got to be the size of a standard poodle, it was just too much so I decided to look for someone I could trust with him. I called another "highly rated" grooming place and asked how they handled shy dogs. The lady told me they dealt with what they needed to deal with. Well, THAT answer was NOT acceptable...so...I called A Cut Above and spoke with Denise. She was understanding and compassionate and told me that she would go as slow as Henry needed her to go and that he wasn't her first shy dog. Well, the first visit was horrible, for both of us. You know...fear of the unknown, and all. I was a wreck until Denise called for me to pick Henry up. When I got there, Henry was happily playing, in the back, with some of the other dogs and he looked AMAZING. He has gone back, every three to four weeks, since then, and we LOVE them. Henry is still a little nervous, but they take their time and he is always clean and perfectly groomed when I pick up my happily bouncing furball! I couldn't be more pleased with Denise and her staff. Thank you! Thank you!

Ask the Community - A Cut Above

I have a LONG haired domestic cat, desperately needing a haircut - I have tried myself but she thought the comb was something to play with..! Would you be able to groom her please? Her winter coat is a matted mess, esp at the base of her tail.

Yes I can help, but there is a 2 to 3 week wait. 805 237 7315 call if you can't find something sooner. Thanks Denise ACA

I tell people she just needs patience, and someone with dog experience. I had an out of town meeting for 5 days and I didn't want to leave her at home because if something went wrong I was an 8 hour drive away. I needed to board her for 2 nights because I was able to keep her at the resort the remaining days. I looked online and Vineyard was near town but definitely "in the country" if that makes sense. I had to drive up a one lane dirt road yet it was about 5 miles from my event. I scheduled a tour, and we showed up early with tennis balls. You see, my pup is crazy about fetch and about tug. If you throw a tennis ball, she'll be your friend. The owner was definitely a dog person, and my dog was definitely being particular, but we did the tour and then one of the woman followed us back and tried to get to know my Maisy and Maisy wasn't having it, that is until I gave the woman a tennis ball. Then Maisy was her bestie :) They don't have indoor outdoor kennels where dogs can relieve themselves outside - they do need to be taken out - there are alot of yards, and alot of dogs. They had a bone shaped swimming pool, toddler beds for the dogs to sleep in (if they aren't destructive. You can order a kong, play time, pool time on top of the walks and other outdoor time. If your dog is daycare ok, I think that is part of the boarding experience. Mine isn't so she had 1-1 time with one of the guys who wore her out playing catch. She also got to go swimming. The price was really reasonable and 100% recommend this boarding kennel because my Maisy was happy to see me when I picked her up, but from the pictures they sent, she also had a great time at the kennels.

This past Halloween Leo and Blossom were Miss Piggy and Kermit so as Kermit would say "with good friends, you can't lose" or as we would say "with Vineyard Kennels, you can't lose".

We decided to board him again for the weekend we were moving from Paso to SLO to avoid having him underfoot with the movers. When I picked him up on Sunday he was standing at the gate with a sad look in his eyes. He jumped into the back of the car as fast as he could and immediately began crying. He was caked in mud so we took him directly to Lemo's pet store for a bath. He cried the whole way there. I was shocked because I have never heard him cry like that before. Susan mentioned that 2 of the bigger dogs had been obsessed with our dog and they "played" a lot so I thought he must just be really tired. During his bath he cried the entire time. As the mud washed away I was sickened to see mud crusted/bloody sores all over him, along with a bite mark on his neck. Then I noticed the bottom of his paws were blistered, swollen and raw. My poor baby. When we got home, my fiancé called Susan to find out what had happened. She played dumb and said the two dogs were chasing him around and trying to bite his collar. She separated them for a bit and then let them at it again. My poor dog was bullied for 3 days and she did nothing to keep him safe. As for his paws... it was 108 in Paso that weekend and the vet said his paws were burned from running around on the hot concrete. Her response was that she has shade for the dogs. Well apparently, her little shade tarp is not sufficient. I imagine my poor dog doing anything he can to get away from the other dogs and sacrificing his poor paws in the act of trying to get away. Our poor dog has been so traumatized that for the first 3 days he was home he would startle and start barking aggressively at any small noise. I know Susan means well and would never intentionally let a dog be hurt, but it has been heartbreaking to see our dog suffer from staying at her kennel. It seems like maybe she should charge more and have fewer dogs so that she is able to manager them better. All I know is that my dog will never be left there, or at any kennel again.
