When the owner first showed me how much she planned to cut, I agreed. But once she started, I was shocked at how much hair was actually coming off. I stayed calm, hoping the blow dry would make it look better. Then came my bangs. Normally, stylists double-check before cutting to make sure the length is right, but she just went for it. Now I'm left with bangs way shorter than I ever wanted. The color was supposed to be a simple solid tone, but the product smelled off and didn't feel right. By the time we got to the blow dry, I was heartbroken. My hair looked flat, dry, and brittle and nothing like the healthy, voluminous look I was expecting. I had booked with them because of their TikTok clips, especially one of a beautiful blowout I wanted to recreate. Sadly, the result was nowhere near that. First, I want to clarify something they mentioned: yes, I've been to many salons before, and in my experience at family run or non-family-run businesses, a single stylist typically handles the entire process: cut, color, wash, and style -- from start to finish. Having my service divided between three different people felt rushed and impersonal, which already set a very different tone than what I was expecting. Second, while I did agree to trimming unhealthy ends, I did not agree to losing all the natural volume from my hair. What I was left with is heavy volume at the crown and very little elsewhere, making my hair look like I'm wearing short hair with extensions. That is not what I wanted, nor was it ever communicated to me as a possible outcome. The reply from the business mentioned that I provided a picture and asked for layers and bangs. That's true, but what I value most in a stylist is professional input! Someone who can look at my hair texture and density and tell me honestly whether a style will suit me or not. In this case, there was very little communication. Aside from a very brief initial exchange, there wasn't much dialogue or reassurance along the way. Finally, while they claim they checked with me at the end, the reality is that I was visibly upset, tearing up, even. But as their last client past closing time, I didn't want to make things harder for anyone. Out of politeness, I downplayed my dissatisfaction in the moment, but I left the salon feeling incredibly unhappy. I've had questionable experiences before, but I've always respected stylists who guide me honestly and communicate openly about expectations versus reality.
