I used to get my brow and lip waxes from Kristy many years ago so it was nice to see she has branched out to her own place! Grove & Baker is located in a quaint little house-turned-business right off of Elk Grove Blvd in Old Town EG. Keep your eyes out or you might just drive right by it. There are parking spots right in front so you won't need to park far or search for street parking. It's very calming inside and reminded me of the old Elysium Spa before it closed in Elk Grove. The decorative touches are perfect and really make you feel comfortable when you walk in. A lot of other salon/spas are very commercialized and sometimes you may worry about how clean their tools or facility are. But here, I felt like I was inside a house and everything was so clean and perfectly in place! On top of that Kristy is very sweet and cares for each of her customers. I wish I could give this 10 stars. I've gotten a few facials before I came to Grove and Baker and nothing comes close to this experience! The location is a little confusing because it is a house in old Elk Grove and there's no signs outside. I actually thought I was walking into some random persons house but there is customer parking outside so that was a clue in that I'm probably in the right place. I was greeted by Kristy who offered me some water and apologized and said the AC was broken. I was fine though because it wasn't that hot and the house was well ventilated. A minute later Irene came out and led me to the room. She asked me about what my skin concerns were and I told her it was bumps on my skin. After that, I was told to undress, including jewelry. When the facial started, I could already tell this was going to be a way better experience than I've had before. Irene is truly a miracle worker. She personalized the entire facial for me and massages my shoulders and arms as well. She took the full 60 minutes, unlike in other spas where the time includes you getting undressed and talking to them. She even made the extractions painless! A thing to note: this is a very organic, plant based spa. None of the harsh chemicals and microdermabrasion that you get at other spas, however the results are still there! After the blissful 60 minutes were over, she recommended some of the products to me that she used (Osea Malibu skincare) but there was no pressure on purchasing it however I did purchase the atmosphere cream and essential corrective complex, they smell wonderful! I'm not one who does beauty treatments often and I wasn't a believer in facials but Irene has now convinced me otherwise. I will definitely be a regular! read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review for Grove & Baker! Waxing- I've been getting my eyebrows done (strip wax) by Kristy (owner of Grove & Baker) for YEARS! I love going to Kristy because she actually takes care of your brows and finds a shape that fits your face. She's patient, gentle and has such a sweet personality! Facial- I promise you won't want to leave. I don't get these as much as I'd like, but it's one of the most relaxing experiences...which is odd because sometimes facials can be painful...but not here. My skin is always glowing afterwards. Atmosphere- So relaxing & calming. Seriously. I've now moved to the Bay Area and I still drive to Elk Grove once a month for all my waxing needs (brow, lip, chin, armpits). Just go, you won't regret it! read more

I had my first appointment Saturday (1/23/16), it was with Irene , she had previously waxed me at European Wax Center Elk Grove. So I found she was located here, thanks for that, she has been waxing me for the past 5 years. But onto the appointment.... So it's located in Old Elk Grove , so the business is located in what use to be someone's house. So if your not familiar with the area be sure to pay attention. I was greeted by Irene the lay out was very nice and relaxing , lots of neutral colors. Now Irene is using strip wax , (and after watching movies like 40 year old virgin before the wax it was little nerve wrecking) . But as usual Irene was ever so gentle and very meticulous. I've been a faithful client to Grove & Baker since it's grande opening. As soon as you walk through the door, you are instantly eased by the ambiance. The floral, fruity, or herbal aromatherapy notes relaxes all you senses. On a cold winter day, a nice cup of tea warms you while waiting for your intended service(s). On a hot summer day, you can look forward to a nice glass of cold water infused with strawberries, lemon or cucumber. The staff is ALWAYS very professional and extremely knowledgeable of the products offered and the services provided. They offer all the standard waxing service other places offer but it's the QUALITY of the service that makes them stand above the rest. They only use plant and flower based products which focuses on the different needs of peoples' skin. They are never pushy in trying to upsell products and are more concerned about their clients' service and experience. It's about time that I write a review for this hidden little gem. I adore this salon. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with such peace and calm. The whole vibe from the decor, the smell, the lighting, the music is earthy and cozy. They always offer a delicious hot tea or herb infused water while you wait. It is a kid free zone which I appreciate as a mom myself. This is truly "me" time. Irene has been my go-to person for the past year. She's amazing. Her vibe is positive and calm and her skill is on point. She's given me the most relaxing facial I've ever had. I almost fell asleep. And she regularly waxes my eyebrows to perfection. She really takes her time and explains the products she's using and the shape we're working towards for my brows. I love how she ends her service with a temple rub and deep breathing of some wonderful oils before you have to go back to reality. The products they use are green and non-toxic. They have an assortment of products that you can purchase from skin care, candles, body care, cards, etc. Never any pressure to purchase anything either.
