The coffee at Desert Kid was seriously impressive. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a coffee snob, and finding a truly good cup isn't easy--most places just don't cut it. But this spot in Palm Desert completely surprised me. The coffee is next-level. The space itself is great too--open, spacious, and not something you come across often. I tried the cinnamon croissant and a classic croissant, and both were delicious. The whole vibe is relaxed and cool, and you can even see where they roast their beans, which makes it feel that much more special. Their problem is that weather if you do a 12 oz or a 16oz, it comes with the same amount of shots, so basically if you get the larger size, all you are paying extra for is more milk. In addition, they charge for the flavoring of the latte - no not EXTRA flavoring, just the base flavoring. So a sugar free vanilla iced latte, while tasty, was close to $8 dollars. I don't mind dishing out money for a coffee at all, but to charge for something that should already come inside the base of a iced latte and also get the same amount of shots despite the size is not acceptable and ridiculous - these shops are getting crazy. Barista's are nice, but ladies taking the orders are kind of rude, especially the dark brunette - Have a smile on your face for God sakes! Love the large dining and seating area. I got the special raspberry rose latte and a beautiful raspberry pop tart. I spoke to the owner and he was very nice and welcoming. What a great new local spot! Love the name. I grew up here in the desert and can relate. They have really nice merch, and I love that there's a mobile pickup on the side of building. SHORT ANSWER: Yes a lot of fun, busy beyond normal but a perfect location. Long review but lots to absorb here. LOCATION: Excellent build out in a rejuvenate part of town. Perfect execution on space, and it is large inside but not much outdoor seating. Parking kind of sucks, we had to park in back lot, street parking seems to always be full. FACILITY: Everything inside is well done, modern, bright, open. While this place is crazy busy at this point only open for a few weeks now, there is enough room inside to accommodate long lines and wait times. While there is a lot of seating, on my visit there was no place to sit down inside as there were a lot, lots, of campers just hanging out, no coffee, on their phones or laptops just like a futuristic Friends episode. MENU: Easy to read online and understand what is what, great food menu options. FOOD PREP: ok, but not over the top fancy coffee snob prep of espresso drinks. High volume mode was in play on my visit and it was a bit intense. As it currently is an upside own funnel business plan, take orders, get money, back up Baristas, make people wait. Barista burnout seems highly possible, two humans can only make so many coffees per minute/hour and they don't really have the space for more Baristas yet there is equipment not in use. Demand seems to exceed supply. Not that you asked but, I actually was part of a successful 5 location coffee shop, snob coffee, and still successful 15 years later. Also tuned down a regional Dutch Brothers franchise opportunity so I do understand the dynamics of this business, it is not easy. FOOD QUALITY: The food options were well above coffee shop quality and taste, not sure if they bake in house or get delivered. I enjoyed a spinach and artichoke croissant and it was fantastic. Coffee, well it was okay and maybe that is okay as you can only make everyone happy, like never. It appeared the iced drinks used premade espresso or something like that., I never saw them pull a shot for any drink. I much prefer to see my beans ground, brewed, and layered but maybe impossible here. I did not like my Iced Dirty Chai with an extra espresso shot, tasted no coffee and way too sweet with something on the bottom of the cup that looked like some syrup. We ordered 4 drinks, all were ok or not liked, just an FYI. WAITSTAFF: Order taking was great, they had issues with their POS machine but a reboot took care of it but people behind us in line were upset they had to wait a few extra moments for them to reboot their new POS equipment and gave us attitude like it was our fault. Baristas on this day 10 am on a weekday, deserved a medal, way too much work, stressful to watch. OVERALL VALUE: 4 espresso drinks and a croissant was over $60 with tip. Seems like their desired demographic will be brutal unless they keep this cool local vibe active, it will be difficult to charge these prices and not over-deliver every moment they are open which is an exhausting customer service level to maintain. Great story hope they succeed but too expensive if you just want a good espresso drink. TIP: Choose your time, if there is a line you will wait to order and pay, then you will wait to pick up your drink. Poach a table if it is busy. read more

We wanted a quick pick me up before heading home so we decided to check this place out. It's super roomy and spacious. There was a line when we got there but it moved pretty fast. I saw it on Facebook when it first opened and decided to try it out. The shop was very comfortable with plenty of seating. I ordered a flat white and was a little disappointed. The space is gorgeous, the merch is cute, the music was actually hitting, and the baristas are so cool and hella Gen Z. Walked in and immediately felt like I needed to up my whole vibe. Cold brew with cream had ZERO acidity. Zero! Smoothest cold brew I've ever had and it carried me through LA traffic on the way home like a champ. The banana bread was also sending me. We went on Saturday and anticipated a line due to the grand opening and festival crowds. The line moved quickly and efficiently, service was great, and loved the vibes. Ohhhhh myyy goooodnessss, the coffee is amazing. I am a coffee snob and I really have specific places I go daily but desert coffee kid has topped it all. The coffee is rich and bold but they have a great variety. The cold foam is delicious! Great with the coffee, it is thicker than others. The best way to describe it is tastes like gelato melted on your coffee but light. The service was great too, I hope they're able to continue to grow and have more local spots to throughout the valley. The bathrooms were spotless. What a great space! It's my first time here and I can say, there are no other coffee places like it in the desert. There's lots of Indoor seating, couches, chairs tables etc, and outdoor tables. The space feels like it was built for community. The staff is welcoming and so nice. I had the ham and cheese croissant (heated) and while Im not a ham person, it was fantastic. I also had a cortado which was tasty but I would have liked it a bit more hot. I'll chalk it up to me not ordering it "extra hot". If you're looking for great coffee this is the spot! Not dog friendly. I was told "service dogs only" and asked to exit the 65 degree interior of this large establishment and enjoy my afternoon latte meeting, outside, in the slightly shaded tables where it's 105 degrees. Pup cup at Desert Kid? Nope. "Sorry, no pup cup". The message is pretty clear. Puppy dog owners are persona non grata at this brand new central Palm Desert coffee shop. Vibe out on the great coffee, just not with your dog. Very disappointing. My poor Goldendoodle with floppy ears and puppy dog eyes didn't quite get it. Extra embarrassing since I was meeting with a friend. I guess it's back to IW Coffee in Indian Wells. They make a delicious pup cup and let all dogs hang inside a space that's 1/10 the size of Desert Kid, complete with outside water bowl as you enter. Not so great PR, Desert Kid. Stopped for a cold brew with their in house vanilla flavor not to overly sweet complimented the drink perfectly with be returning.

So first of all, this place is sooo spacious! But spacious with an atmosphere. The decor is so cozy and would definitely be a place to truly enjoy a morning. I also got a ham and cheese croissant, banana and whipped PB toast with their seasonal special latte, the Iced Rose latte. Everything was amazing, the toast hit the spot! With the granola and cinammon on the toast? Already wanting another one right now lol. Anywho, service was amazing as well and whoever took my order was just so friendly. Love the coffee, the community and the details. Had both a iced sugar-free vanilla latte ( my standard) and an iced mocha latte with a cream top. You can tell they make their own syrups, which are so much better than any mass produced you get most places. The cream top is a decadent treat and of course the coffee is top notch. Good coffee, no doubt about it--but a couple things have stood out to me since they opened. During one of the festival weekends, they hosted an event with a tattoo artist doing flash pieces of their logo. A little unconventional for a coffee shop, but hey--not really my lane. My daughters all have tattoos, so I'm not exactly shocked by the concept. What did give me pause, though, was that they were doing the tattoos in the roaster room. That just doesn't sit right from a sanitation standpoint. Tattooing involves blood, and aerosolization is a real thing. Mixing that with a space where food products are handled feels like a questionable decision at best. On a separate visit, I stopped in on a packed day--line out the door, easily a 30-minute wait. When I finally got up to the register, a new employee stepped in just as I was about to order. I started giving my order, and she just...ignored me. Scanned her own phone, rang up a drink for herself or someone she knew, and walked off to chat with friends in the waiting area. It became pretty clear she was putting in an order for someone who had just walked in. That didn't sit well. When a place is that busy and everyone's been standing there waiting, there's kind of an unspoken agreement--we all wait our turn. It's basic courtesy. All that said, the coffee is good. But if you're weighing your options, Rutina is just as solid, and you're also supporting the local Mexican community, which is something worth considering. read more

I know this place is relatively new and I had been waiting to try it for a while. first off, It is a very large space like a warehouse with a long coffee bar and I counted at least six people working on this particular day. however, after ordering my two coffees and two pastries, my bill was $30 (without the "tip" ) which in itself is quite expensive. then there was only one of the employees actually making the coffee, which in my opinion is diabolical. He was also moving at a glacial pace . Seems like all the workers were just milling about and chatting and gossiping, and not hustling to get the very expensive coffee out to their customers promptly .
