Extremely flexible to our larger group needs and made for the perfect day for three separate groups of ~13 youth and adults! We had an amazing canyoning adventure through zig zag canyon. Preston was an awesome guide and in particular was wonderful with my 11 year old son. The trip is stunning and adrenaline filled. The last rappel was the ultimate rush and we couldn't believe when we looked back up from the bottom. The rappels were the adrenaline highlight but the hiking on top of the canyon was also stunning. We did the Medieval Canyoneering trip with Madison and it was fantastic! The views were incredible, and the two rappels were a lot of fun! Our group of 5 was inexperienced, and Madison did a great job making everyone feel comfortable and ensuring each group member had a great time. We rented packrafts from Desert Highlights for four days/three nights of bikepacking/bikerafting on the Green River! Melissa was so warm and helpful in showing us how to set up the packrafts (an Alpacka Mule, and an Alpacka Denali Llama), how to strap our bikes to them, giving us advice on our trip/route, and being flexible with our ridiculously early pickup time and ridiculously late pickup time. (As we were returning the packrafts late at night, we happened to run into a Desert Highlights guide, Ed, who was eager to hear about our trip.) We had such an amazing day in Granary Canyon with our guide Herb! It was a little snowy but he ensured we were safe throughout. The full day canyoneering trip took us through many gorgeous landscapes. The tour itself has a lot rappels with beautiful scenery and some really fun scrambling. Herb is really easy to talk to and knowledgeable; we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the surrounding climbing, rope work, geology / ecology, and the history of the Anasazis that used to live in the canyons. Our three person adventure with our guide Jake was phenomenal. His easy going personality put us both at ease, especially my husband and friend who aren't too crazy about rappelling since they aren't comfortable with heights. Jake was patient and very informative about the area and plants. He also explained the rappelling process to the level of which we needed to know. Some people require little information! Not me! Jake is a true teacher! The pace was perfect for our two rappels: Medieval Arch and Morning Glory Bridge. This was an excellent 'beginner' adventure with only a half day vested. DH will prepare you with a list of what is needed so you can successfully complete the rappel and hike. I have used Desert Highlights for about 4 adventures now, and I will continue to do so! My husband and I spent an incredible full day exploring Canyonlands with our Guide Herb. Herb is very knowledgeable about the history of the Utah national parks, the ecology and the ins and outs of all the trails. He picked us up at our hotel at 8:15 am and he dropped us back at 4:30pm. We covered a good portion of the Island in the Sky district (with a great final drive into the canyons along the White Rim Trail road). Me and my 13 year old son had a wonderful experience rock climbing for 2 full days with Desert Highlights. Working with Kai to make our reservation was very easy. Kai was friendly, answered our questions and followed up with us as promised. After reading other reviews, we requested Jake for our guide and thankfully he was available both days. Jake was amazing. Me and my son are both beginner outdoor climbers with intermediate climbing skills from time spent at the climbing gym. Jake was very personable, professional and patient with us. Safety was always first and fun was a close second. Jake quickly assessed our climbing abilities and put us on challenging climbs that were not above what we could do. He was constantly assessing our energy level and asking about our climbing terrain preference. He is an excellent teacher making suggestions to improve our technique and helping us be better climbers. Since we're interested in learning how to climb outdoors on our own, Jake provided lots of advice on how to get to that level safely. It's obvious that Jake loves climbing, guiding, teaching and being outdoors. I would not hesitate to climb with Jake again and we look forward to doing more challenging crack climbs with him in the future. Canyoneering with Desert Highlights was a blast. Rappelling a Moab slot Canyon a totally over the top fun experience. No experience needed- just a lot of nerve. Our guide was lovely and very patient. I have both bad knees and a hip that needs replacing so some of the rock scrambling was kind of difficult for me. Our guide helped every step of the way, and stopped to rest when we needed it, and was a great instructor for our rappelling. Scenery was spectacular. We did the combo adventure with a half day at Entrajo canyon and a half day pack raft float down the Colorado. Herb was our guide and I don't think we could have had anyone better! He was informative, helpful and calm. I was definitely paranoid about the 80' rappel (as were others in our group) but he chilled us out and we all did great. We absolutely LOVED our experience with Desert Highlights. Melissa was our guide and she was simply amazing! When we were headed for our trip to Utah a couple months ago, I knew I wanted to do one thing that absolutely terrified me and took me out of my comfort zone. And canyoneering was the ticket! We had originally booked our trip with another company--they canceled us literally the last minute (apparently they have done this to a lot of people) and they recommended Desert Highlights! It was an absolute blessing! We called up and Melissa was completely accommodating--we told her that we only had that day to go canyoneering and that we needed to be done by 5:30p because we had dinner booked at 6p. She made it work! We got to go hiking and see Arches in the morning and go canyoneering in the afternoon. Melissa was so professional, easy going, and friendly. When my boyfriend and I were scared at times, she knew just how to encourage us. She felt like a friend that you could easily talk to. We felt safe and well taken care of. The place we canyoneered at was absolutely breathtaking, a good hike up the mountain and it was breathtakingly beautiful on the way down! There were many layers to the journey and Melissa was great at pointing out various rock structures, points of interest, and animal sightings. We were also the only people on the trail so it felt really desolate but intimate at the same time. We really enjoyed the entire experience and we felt confident by the end of our trip. We did a terrific canyoneering tour - the Medieval chamber route - with guide Jake from Desert Highlights. It was my wife and I and our two daughters (age 10 and 7). It was really terrific! Jake was great at helping our daughters do two big rappels on their own - and especially at coaxing them out of their fear! My 7 year old got quite scared during the first 90 foot rappel, and Jake was super gentle and thoughtful in how he talked her down! When I contacted Desert Highlights and Melissa replied giving me super detailed responses and recommendations, I decided to move forward and book with them. Our guide Danny was patient with us as he worked to raise our skill levels and confidence. He's also an excellent cook! By day 2 he had us complete an intermediate level route that left us physically and mentally exhausted just like we wanted. A completely unforgettable experience.
