In 2019 I contracted with this company for a remodel. I took 3 bids and ended up picking the most expensive after the initial consultation experience and reading reviews. The first problem was the newly installed light system that took 10 months to finally fix. Next issue was the tile grout falling out. Then, a "blemish" occurred months later when the resurfaced pool deck was compromised with a bubble that exposed the concrete. The contractor included a 2 year warranty on the deck. The contractor told me he would send his crew over to make the repair. Repeated attempts to get the contractor out for the repair were unsuccessful during the COVID year. While my heart goes out to the family for the loss of the owner, his wife taking over the business is less than desirable. I finally got a response from her and she promised to send a representative over to make the repairs. I was ghosted immediately afterwards. Now I'm left to pay out of pocket for the repair. We found Desert Gator pools after our neighbor recommended them. I requested bids from Desert Gator and the other two top rated companies on Yelp as well as from another company a friend recommended. Desert Gator was in the middle in terms of price but could start the work within a week and have it done in two weeks. Other companies were running at least 5 weeks out just to start. One company was running 3+ weeks out just on estimates. Doug (the owner) was true to his word. The work actually started 2 days before he promised. Each crew was efficient and cleaned up after themselves. Doug called frequently to update us on each phase and to tell is what to or not to do. One morning I was concerned about something a crew was doing and I called Doug at 6:30 AM. He called me back 2 minutes later. Seriously 2 minutes--talk about responsiveness. One thing to keep in mind is that DesertGator does not rep name-brand Pebble Tec. They use an alternate product from National Pool Tile. That's the case with most pool companies though they may not be up front about it. After doing a lot of research, I felt comfortable going with Stone Scapes Mini Pebble because I trusted Doug's years of experience on the install. We're really happy with how the finish, tile, and cool deck turned out. It looks beautiful. The process was the absolute smoothest experience I have ever had with a contractor. I called to get a quote on acid wash and other services to our pool. Doug, the owner, came out and quoted. He was nice and sounded very knowledgeable. I hired him to do an acid wash. He sent another guy (also Doug, apparently both from MI) out to do the wash. While draining, the guy had a back-flush hose with tons of holes that leaked all over yard and plants. When he said he was almost done, I asked if he was going to remove more of the stains. He reluctantly went over some of the areas I pointed out and they looked better but not a great job. I went out front when he was loading equipment up and noticed his truck on my driveway. I asked if it leaked oil and he said no. After he left I looked at the driveway and there was indeed oil as well as acid stains! Their website says "family owned, family run" but not family doing the work. Here's the deal folks: save yourself the time and effort to read through every pool company's reviews, I've done the hard work for you. We knew we needed to remodel our old, tired and ugly plaster pool so I started researching pool companies months ago. Already went through a brand new pool build in our Tempe house 15 years ago but that company was no longer around and since we just bought this house last year we knew we had to find someone else. I went through and read every review for every pool company in the Phoenix area that had at least 3 stars. Called 4-5 of them to come out and give us a bid. We all know the process and prices are usually extremely close so it really comes down on getting a good feel on if the company will show up on time, do a good job and stand behind their work. We had almost our mind made up with one of the top names here in Ahwatukee but we just did not get a good feel about them because they made it really difficult for us to pick a tile we actually liked. Right before we signed the deal with them I thought about calling Desert Gator since I hadn't talk to them. Doug showed up the following week, we went through what we wanted (mini-pebbles, new water feature, new pump, take out the spa and turn it into a baja shelf etc). What I liked right off the bat is that he's a no-BS kinda guy (like me), he gave it to me straight and answered all the questions I had. Came back with the bid when he said he would and it was very competitive considering he had stuff in there that the other hot shots didn't even mention in their quote. Now he's the most amazing thing I've experienced with any construction company: all others told me they would start in 4-6 weeks, Doug sat down with us went over the bid on a Saturday morning and said he can start the next business day (Tuesday) as Monday was a holiday. Now that alone is unheard of! We signed the deal and sure thing crew showed up bright and early on Tuesday and start to chip the pool. We still hadn't made up our mind on the tiles and wanted something different than the usual pool tiles offered, which we had found online, Doug called the supplier and got them for us in a week for only a couple hundred more than the "standard tiles". The tile guy Doug sent over was awesome; he did an amazing job and let us add some glass tiles for the steps at the very last minute and even went to pick them up for us (who does that nowadays??). The crew was done in less than 3 weeks for the complete pool remodel and it came out amazing. We purchased a house in Phoenix that had a pool that was very dated and needed to be redesigned and re plumbed. We wanted to reduce the depth in the deep end from 9' to 5' and to add a baja deck. My old pool needed an update and after doing a bunch of research I found one of the top builders in the state, Desert Gator. Erik Showed up at my house promptly as promised and was super friendly and professional. Erik had a ton of great ideas on how to stretch my budget while creating a custom travertine look. My old pool had a boring (and cracked) cool deck that had all the style and swag of expired tofu. I didn't want to have an updated remodeled pool, with boring cool decking- instead I choose travertine. Erik helped me finalize a design (travertine coping & patio; with an amazing subway tile pattern for the waterline tile) and work began quickly after. Erik and his crew showed up as promised and got to work. His crew are true craftsmen- who are diligent, hard working, and professional. They truly care about what they are doing and know that their work will be on display for many decades. Desert Gator is everything that the other companies are not. When Erik says something is going to happen- it does. When you think you are getting good work, you get superior work. Even little details like cutting custom travertine skimmer lids so that no plastic is showing- and your deck is ALL travertine- these are things that set Erik and Desert Gator apart. When we bought our house I insisted to my husband that we could take care of the pool...all we needed was someone to come check the chemicals once a month. Oh sure. After about one week, mustard algae, a bad storm, and a cranky pool pump, we were looking for a pool guy. We called them on a Saturday and the owner of Desert Gator was kind enough to come to our home at 6:00am the following Monday to fit with our schedules. We had our service set up that week and have been very happy ever since. They definitely got our pool under control and taught us quite a bit along the way. We still have them coming once every week - it's so worth it. Our pool was in bad shape after a recent storm and they were incredibly responsive. I think they came two or three times that week without charging us more. $85 per month...but can be a bit more if you need parts and chemicals. read more

The company they have associated with them CBF pool and property solutions are terrible. I had these scam artist come out for months just to hardly clean my damn pool. My water features which have the pool water flowing through it were never touched and have lots of algae. On top of that, the pool has had dirt and leaves all over the pool every single week. The pool looks dirty and the water feature are dirty. I checked the filters and they're very dirty as well. I use to help clean pools a while back and we did a lot better job than this. To top all of this bad service, I tried speaking with the owner of the company Chad and he was busy which I had understood. I had reached out July 2nd and never had gotten anything back from the company. I had left messages to him and the company phone. Never received a call back or anything. After a while I reached out and told him that no one had ever come out to my house for the normal pool cleaning and nobody ever reached out. He decided to go off the pictures that they send with your report which is a far back picture that doesn't show you the water features or the bottom of the pool and Chad said that he cancelled my service and to find another pool company. I am in sales and study business and that was the worst customer service from a company owner. At the end of the day, I'm only writing this review so no one else gets ripped off like I do. We were buying a home with a pool and our inspector felt we should have a pool guy come inspect the pool. Doug was super quick to respond and made the time to go look at the pool the next morning. He provided me with an estimate for work and was completely honest about the work that needed to be done. Once we bought the house we called Doug to re-finish the pool and fix the pump. I asked if we should just buy a new pump from him instead of fixing the one that was there. Doug said don't bother, he can fix this one and why spend an additional $1200 when this one will work fine. I couldn't believe how honest he was. Doug and the whole team did an amazing job. From start to finish, the entire process of resurfacing our pool went incredibly well. We had the interior of our pool resurfaced in August of last year, and Doug and his team did a great job. These guys have been in the business for a long time and they definitely know what they're doing. The estimate that they gave us was reasonable and competitive and they stuck to their timeline. The only issue we had throughout the process was that they had left a concrete ramp to get equipment in and out of the truck on my front yard, in the middle of the summer time and it burned my grass. I discussed it with Doug and he was able to get a landscaper to put down a nutrient chemical and it came back about two weeks later. My pool was full of chips and cracks but I was going to sell the house in three months so I wasn't looking to go all out. A contractor "friend" (not Doug) quoted me $6500, so I looked for other options. I called Doug at Desert Gator Pools based on a recommendation from the local NPS pool supply store. I wanted a 2nd opinion on doing a patch & paint job so I called Desert Gator. Doug answered the call himself & came out the next day. Other companies I called took several days to respond. Doug pointed out all the problems with the pool and recommended I do nothing. He said a patch & paint could cause more damage and that it made more sense to just offer the buyer an offset when I sold the house. He never pushed any services on me. He was willing to walk away without my business. I was worried the pool looked so bad we'd have trouble selling the house. I called Doug later and asked for a quote on resurfacing.
