Mom and pop restaurant small and homey. I was serviced timely and fast. The food is fire I always order from them the only critique I have is the potatoes not being crunchy but it overall gives soul food made by black people. I had tilapia cheesy grits eggs sausage potatoes and sliced bread. I ordered Togo

I was visiting family in the north Miami area and they brought me to Derry's for a late breakfast/early lunch. I had fried snapper abs cheese grits, with potatoes and the food was amazing. I went to a few spots and ordered the same ordered the same dish, which were good, but Derry's dish always tasted better. I will definitely go there again when I'm down in north Miami.

Food was amazing! Good home cooking, French toast tasted like my mom's. Good sweet tea. Service was awesome, very friendly and welcoming. Ambiance could use some TLC, however everything else outweighs that. Loved it

Derry's Restaurant is a hidden gem. The food was so delicious and seasoned! Our waiter, Paula was the most sweetest person. She really took care of us and was so caring when serving us. It's honestly little things like that, that will make me a returning customer.

It's a vibe that unmatched listen this place is what it's all about this place is what it's all about the people in there are so inviting. They take their time to explain what's on the menu. They even give you their thoughts and what they think about the food at I done been their two times and I ain't stopping.

*should be a no star but not an option.* UNACCEPTABLE DERRY'S RESTAURANT OWNER!!! I just left your establishment at 1135 am. on 5/26/24. We walked in, and a young lady politely asked a waitress if they were still seating anyone, and she immediately said, "No." She tells us that we can't be seated and the wait time is about 30-40 minutes for take out...really? There was an open table and one table that was leaving. You had about 3-4 ppl at the counter and maybe 3-4 tables seated. Either you are a "sit down" restaurant, or you are a "take out" only restaurant. I get small business, and I was trying to patronize a "staple" Black owned business as a person of color myself, but this type of service is embarrassing and not professional. You clearly have a sign that says "Open," and your business hours are advertised closing at 2pm. It appears other patrons that entered after me were turned away as well. What a shame. Do better!

This is the perfect breakfast spot with great options. Portion size is perfect. Fish fried to perfection. The eggs and grits were also really good!!! The pancake was HUGE! One was enough for me but if you like a stack, just keep in mind the size of these cakes are really big! They also have a small hint of cinnamon which tasted really good. Highly recommend. They close at 2 so make sure you get there early.

I am originally from Buffalo New York and once upon a time there was a famous soul food restaurant called GG's which had the best soul food breakfast.  Derry's Fish & Grits took me back to that moment in my youth. Derry's is not much to look at.  It is a little shabby hole in the wall.  The service is slow, but the servers are phenomenal.  And the food is OMG delicious. Sat in a small booth on a Sunday, listening to gospel piping from a corner of the diner. Sipping coffee which was not the best, but it was fresh and taking in the ambiance of the Sunday morning soul food breakfast that I fondly remember. If you are coming to Derry's, you are coming for the warming atmosphere and the great food.  They serve you with paper cups for hot drinks and Styrofoam for cold drinks.  Plastic plates, forks, knives and spoons.  Not pretentious at all, just good old home style soul food. My breakfast here was memorable and can't wait to come back.

Food was okay, definitely average. Service was poor. This is a family owned business and I love that they knew most of the customers by name. My cashier was literally sitting at the bar texting while my food was sitting on the counter waiting to be bagged. I ordered for a Mother's Day brunch and we had so much food left over because it wasn't good. Potatoes weren't seasoned, waffles were soggy not not fully cooked, pancakes were decent, sausage looked disgusting that not one of staff wanted to try! They looked dry and over cooked and we ended up throwing out and wasting $169. Bacon was okay and definitely not crispy and lots of grease in the pan! We asked for plates and was told there are none, but we were charged for individual meals and gratuity. I also tried the grits, eggs, tilapia. The tilapia was fried too hard. Grits needed salt. Place was clean and pretty busy at times!

The food is a 10/10. It's a hole in the wall place, but it's clean and the staff is nice.

*I can only state what I saw and experienced. Extreme chaos. Arrived at 8:55 am. Parking is extremely tight. Inside is even tighter. The staff and cooks seemed to be overwhelmed and no organization until finally I believe the owner or manager came in. But even after her coming in there were some confusion with orders. We ordered about 15 minutes after being seated. PACK YOUR PATIENCE! It took about 45 minutes to get our order. Customers were leaving because they couldn't wait any longer. Take out was scary crazy. They stopped taking orders on the phone because they were backed up. But if your looking for a small town diner feel, this is definitely the place to go. All the traditional meals. ***** Menu have no prices on them. ****** Food: Hands down seasoned to perfection. The French toast were so delicious! The corn beef hash were seasoned so well. Shrimp & Grits - unfortunately will not order again. It was okay but I know my shrimp and grits and unfortunately this was not for me. Staff were sweet. Price, well a bit high for what you get but everything is high prices these days. Will I go back again, maybe for lunch.

We end up stopping by and saw an employee taking a break outside and told my husband where the menu was located. I chose turkey, Mac and cheese, collard greens and a side of potato salad. My husband ordered fried tilapia, yams, and lima beans. All dinners comes with a rice. We had pigeon peas and rice. My husband went in the restaurant to pick up the food. He came back and as I was looking over the food, I didn't see any cornbread. I saw the reviews on YELP, so I asked him to ask can we purchase cornbread or do they have any. The female employee stated she gave us some. No, we didn't have any. My husband came back to check and none was in our bag. She said that she gave us some. First of all, we would not ask for anything that we didn't pay for. If you look at how much we dine out, you would know that we spend money really well, and don't need any handouts. I was really disappointed! But anyway, she gave us what we were supposed to have, which was the cornbread what we NEVER received. My husband said he think that it was the owner that told the employee not to argue with the customer. That was unacceptable, PERIOD! :-( The food score: My food- collard greens-8 potato salad-4 Pigeon peas and rice-4 Turkey-8 Cornbread-10 Husband food- Fried tilapia-7 Pigeon peas and rice-6 Yams-6 Lima beans-5 Cornbread-10 *needed more seasoning on fish, and Lima beans. As the place was empty and two women working were talking at the bar I walked in and went to sit. One of the women asked if I was with the group and then told me I needed to wait to be seated. It was awkward. It was a bit rude. Most times it's not what you say, but how you say it. Maybe it's just me, but the waitress immediately informed me that three items weren't available, including biscuits and cornbread of some sort. As a first-timer, it was weird. Fortunately, everything got better from there. My first meal, regardless of time, needs to be breakfast-y. As I perused the weekday brunch menu via QR code (what if you don't have a phone?) I ordered a coffee and water. The water came quickly, but the coffee took its time. I ordered the Wafflette (don't you want to try things you can't get other places?) It came as pictured and was good. The syrup was quite watery and left a lot to be desired, but I really didn't need it. The star of this dish is the bacon. I could have bathed in this bacon. It was thick and chewy, such a nice compliment. I don't know if there are bar stools available and whether they set up center aisle seating when it's more crowded, but the restaurant appeared clean and well-kept. There were no rounds available when I went, so I don't know how they accommodate groups of 10+, I sat along the banquette that could accommodate two. I am very interested in returning to try the ox tails, which are available in two (or was it three) dishes on the menu. I look forward to revising my review then.

I ordered the fried catfish meal with seafood rice, collard greens, and mac & cheese. The food was flavorful and satisfying across the board, though the mac & cheese was surprisingly my least favorite of the sides. Portions were generous--so much so that I ended up saving half for later, which made the $26 price point feel like a great value. The presentation stood out right away. Everything was packaged neatly and thoughtfully, making it perfect for takeout. My order took about 20 minutes, which felt reasonable given the freshness of the food. What truly made the visit memorable, though, was the service. The cashier, Deja, was exceptional. She managed the entire front of the house on her own--taking orders, making drinks, cleaning, and consistently greeting every customer who walked in. Her energy and attention to detail didn't go unnoticed. As someone familiar with the industry, I can confidently say Deja's an incredible asset to their team. Definitely worth checking out!

It was also a task order as they were out of a lot of items on the menu so the menu was very limited. I ended up ordering a wing meal, which was about $19 with two sides. I also ordered the kids meal. The chicken wing meal was five wings, portion of rice, candied yams, and macaroni and cheese . I will say that portion sizes were a bit small for the price. The yams were perfectly seasoned not too sweet not too tart. The macaroni and cheese was also very delicious. It had the right amount of cheese and the right amount of crisps on top. I wish there was a little bit more to taste, and the wings were perfectly fried and seasoned well. I will say the chicken tenders for the kids meal were very tiny. They were more like strips instead of actual full-size tenders and they were packaged with the fries which made them extremely sweaty and wet, and the fries were also very soggy. I would recommend packaging the items separately and not stuffed in a box to sweat together. The drink for the kids meal was very tasty a little on the sweet side. It was their mystery tropical drink. Customer service was extremely friendly. I had to ask for condiments and napkins but overall they seem like young kids that did their best. I will say the price is a little bit on the tad side. This was almost $30 and the serving sizes just weren't there for the money. But the taste was great. I'll definitely try again as I really wanna try a few other items on the menu that they were sold out of.
