Vienna is known for being a very cultured city, so the hubs and I were pretty shocked to find out that smoking is not banned yet in restaurants. Apparently, it's being phased out, but smoking is still common in many restaurants. This restaurant is across the street from the main Hauptbanhof train station and within walking distance from our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. We asked to be seated in the nonsmoking section, but that was a joke since the door separating both sections was left wide open.
Food:
-Potato soup: This was creamy and rich--delish! It tasted homemade, none of that Campbell's stuff.
-Duck: I love duck and pretty much get it everywhere I go in Europe since it's more common and affordable. This entree had a nice balance of sweet and savory with the cherry sauce, although the sauce on its own is pretty sweet.
-Schnitzel: You can order just the schnitzel on its own or get it with potatoes. I'd pass on the potatoes since they were a bit boring and bland. I'm not a huge schnitzel person, so this was just okay for me. It was tender and the lemon was nice since it cut through the heaviness.
Service:
-English is spoken here and service was fine. They're not hovering over you and checking on you all the time, but our food and bill was brought out promptly.
Overall, it was a nice stop for a meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more
