As a long time patient, sorely disappointed. A business is only as good as their relationship with their patients. The front office person, refused to let me converse with the dentist after being a patient there for over 20 years. She chose unilaterally to take their pound of flesh in payment on her own recognize. A regular experience will be you being told additional work needs to be done with no prior notice, no conversation about what you want, and they will ignore you when you say you don't want it done. At one point, mid x-rays, I was told I had a extra cosmetic bit hanging off one of my back most teeth. It did not matter to me at all that there was a cosmetic imperfection somewhere nobody will ever look outside of a dental office. I was told it would be a quick and easy thing to remove. I said I don't want that done. I was told it would be painless and doesn't need novocaine. Wanting to get it over with, and thinking they were truthful about how trivial it would be, I said yes. Immediatly I felt intense discomfort from the procedure asked it be stopped and left. On a seperate instance, I came in to finish my orthodontic work, and was met with a surprise bill for over $1900 dollars to print a retainer and replace a dental filling that has no complications and doesn't need to be redone. When I said I didn't know we were doing a filling today, and was told to only plan for this appointment being about an hour, I was then told that none of the scans for making my retainer would be done until I did the filling. During this appointment, the terms "night guard" and "retainer" were being used interchangeabley and it was completely unclear to me what I was being billed for or would be receiving. This whole conversation is happening in a too cold room in their dental chair and not in a space where I can properly read through everything and ask my needed questions of the Dentist. Multiple times I asked for my future appointment to make my retainer be cancelled because I found a different office that was much cheaper for the exact same work and kept getting sob stories about how much they want me to reconsider instead of just cancelling my appointments. It was very unprofessional and absolutely inappropriate. I have had multiple appointments with one of their dental techs, where they did not wear a mask while my mouth is wide open and they are leaning over me. It should not be my job to notice when basic hygiene requirments of any medical office are not being followed through on and it is unacceptable it happened on five seperate occasions. read more

Disappointing and Frustrating Experience I had a very poor experience with this dental office. As a new patient, I scheduled an appointment expecting a standard exam and cleaning. Upon arrival, I was taken back for X-rays, and only after the process had already begun was I informed that a cleaning would not be done during that visit. At that point, I felt stuck since the X-rays were already underway. Despite not receiving a cleaning, I was there for over two hours, during which the dentist went over a long list of supposed "issues" with my teeth. I was then told I would need to schedule separate appointments--one for a cleaning and another to discuss a treatment plan. It became very clear that this office is structured to maximize billing by breaking services into multiple appointments. I was skeptical, so I immediately booked a second opinion with another dentist. Unsurprisingly, about 80% of the "issues" they identified were found to be either minor or non-existent. To make matters worse, I later received a $500 bill for just the X-rays and consultation--no cleaning included. They also failed to bill the correct insurance, when I tried to resolve the issue, I found that they had charged my card without prior notice. Their justification? A vague clause in their paperwork allowing them to charge for outstanding balances, even without alerting the patient first. The only redeeming aspect of my visit was the technician who conducted the X-rays--professional, courteous, and respectful. In summary, I would strongly recommend avoiding this dental office. Dental Elements is a truly amazing dentist. This place is so posh and swanky, if you're looking for a new dentist, look no further. The facility is so cool, it even has a meeting room for chatting about your dental options. Michael at the front desk is a rockstar, super down to earth, and most importantly open, no secrets or gimmicks here. The location of this practice is super handy too, it's conveniently located about 5 minutes away from Union Station. One of the best things about my visit was when I was having my teeth examined, one of the staff members shouted "we have a Yelp Eliter over here" haha, love it!! I have been meaning to leave a review/warning for quite awhile. Dr. Thurman recommended several dental procedures totally over $10,000. I was confused by this because I religiously go to the dentist every 6 months and nothing significant had been found to warrant this type of dental work/procedures. Following this appointment, I went back to my previous dentist (out of state) who found nothing wrong. This was four years or so ago and I still don't have any issues. My husband continued to make regulator appointments at Dental Elements for cleaning/checkups. He has never had a cavity or dental issues. After each checkup, my husband was approached with several items he could purchase (braces, some treatment I can't recall that required injections, etc.) The nice hygienist warned him to ignore the sales pitch. We were also approached with an offer for a future discount if we left a review. I am assuming it would have to be a glowing review to get the $100.00 discount. Very disappointing experience. I just hope others don't follow bad advice and have unnecessary procedures done. read more

Buyer beware: Service and the staff are great, and they explained everything well. I signed up through "LocalMed" - which may be a portion to blame - for a new patient cleaning. When I got there, I was hit with "It's new insurance, we can do xrays." The did not provide cost for it, I said sure because it had been 5 years+ since my last full mouth xray. They took me back, did xrays, took some pictures with a camera which I didn't ask for. What I came out with was an astronomical bill for what I hadn't even signed up for. Like I said, they seem to know what they're doing and they do it well, but that's not the way I want to be treated/have bills handled. Now history below says they'll comment on this post with a reply about how I'm wrong, but those are just facts. The xrays were average market price, the comprehensive oral exam was more than 2x what is available at a majority of other practices, and the 2d oral/facial images were never explained they'd be billed separately or extra. I would have said no. All in all - thanks for the work and the two cents on what my next steps should be, but not going back there. The lack of transparency was appalling and gives me doubt about how future interactions will be. Not surprising though based on feedback from coworkers when I shared the ordeal with them. read more

Had my first exam and cleaning today - place was amazing! Dr. Thurman and his staff were extremely nice, careful, and wonderful at their job. Very clean establishment with all state of the art equipment. Even better, conveniently located just inside downtown but not far from the highway so coming from either north or south Denver, it's easy to get to right off of 25. I was referred to this place by my boss 2.5 years ago when I moved here and have been really happy with the choice. They might run a bit pricier than some other locations, but I find that it's worth the price due to the quality of care and work they do. I've had a couple of fillings replaced, caps replaced/put on here, and cleanings and every time they've done a great job. They're direct and upfront, but not rude about things. They also don't sit around and talk to you for hours while your mouth is open which some places do. And they let you watch Netflix while you're getting work down. read more

I found Dental Elements through my insurance and I'm so glad I came in! The staff are super friendly, professional and polite. I LOVED my dental hygienist. Do not go here - they are scamming people! Went to my first consultation back in may and they told me I have seven cavities and should consider braces. Told me it would be expensive and I should set up a payment plan. I thought it seemed fishy so I got a second opinion from my dentist at home in Kansas and they confirmed I have ZERO cavities and do not need braces - saved me thousands of dollars from these scammers! I've had a friend get ripped off by dental elements too - they are only in the business of making money and not looking out for your best interest. I came to this office because I walk by often and it looks very clean and modern, which is important to me. I feel that, at least to a point, the aesthetic of an office can reflect the care that is put into a practice. Dr. Thurman and all of his staff are extremely knowledgeable and professional, while also being relatable and fun to talk to. The office does employ the latest and greatest technology/techniques (Dr. Thurman really geeks out on this stuff!) and they will make every effort to ensure you understand any work needed on your teeth. They happily answer all of your questions and will talk to you as long as you need to make you feel comfortable about your care. I went to Dental Elements based on location and it being an authorized provider by my insurance. I went a couple of times and stopped because while the office is nice and the staff is nice, there are a few red flags at Dental Elements. (1) Costs/ payments: they require you to pay an estimated up front payment and keep a credit card on file. I'm not sure if this is a Denver thing, but patients should never pay an estimated amount before services are rendered. When I questioned this I was told doctors do it all the time but if I was uncomfortable I could cancel my appointment and pay a cancellation fee even though I was a new client that was never informed of this policy until I arrived. (2) They used a new way to clean my teeth which was described to me as a sand blaster. I was assured by the dental hygienist that it's better than the old school cleaning and would leave my teeth whiter and brighter. It left me dusty, my teeth didn't feel clean at all, so after research and talking to a dentist friend, I was told it doesn't work well at all and shouldn't be used as an alternative to cleaning. (3) After another visit the dental hygienist told me I had more filling in my mouth than I had, and then she said I had a lot more cavities that needed filling. This was contrary to what the dentist said, but I still believe he said more than I really had as I've only ever had one cavity/ filling in my entire life. That said, I obtained a second opinion elsewhere and this dentist confirmed - one current filling, and one spot/ cavity where I could use a filling. Again, office and staff are nice, but I wasn't really happy with the dental hygienist. Note, that I have not been to this office in about a year, so this is a bit of a delayed review, as I just saw another dentist and it jogged my memory to write this. BEWARE: they offer discounts for good reviews! Not pleased with this place. It's expensive, and they pushed me into being uncomfortable, and paying them more money. I can forgive being in PAIN when they did work on me. But the dentist was impatient even though i was cringing and upset. Bedside manner was minimal. I felt like he hated me. Laughing gas wasn't enough. Needed more. I was very awake and alert and in pain as they fixed my cavities. The Novocaine didn't work well. PS: the dental ASSISTANTS there are great. I liked them. While everyone is very friendly and personable I have to say that I cannot recommend Dental Elements to anyone based on the fact that I felt completely taken advantage of and do not trust anyone at this practice. I was new to the area (this was about 2 years ago) and tried this doctor because he was recommended by a friend (who no longer goes here either) and was nearby. I was told I needed XYZ done and that it was pressing. After taking care of these "urgent" issues my husband went for a cleaning and was told basically the same thing. Neither of us have had any dental issues in the past. He passed on the "urgent" issues he needed fixed. After seeing my regular dentist later that year he confirmed that we got taken for a ride. While the customer service from Robin was always great, the prices were always overpriced. I went to a different dentist down the street with great customer service, great prices and great results. I had an evaluation from Dental Elements on everything I needed done (which I needed a lot done) plus one teeth cleaning (not even the deep clean) and they charged $250. Hmmm something is not right. Also, for everything I needed to get done their quote was extremely high and I ended up paying less than half of what they said at the other place I went. So I would say that you can go down the street and get exceptional services done to your teeth without breaking your bank. They will claim that it is because they use the latest and greatest, but guess what, the place down the street does too. UPDATE: Oh... that is sooo great that someone is replying. So let's take a stroll down memory lane. Before my appointment I decided to look this place up online (I def should have looked this place up BEFORE booking with them, but at the time all that I cared about was that it was next to my work).... so I look up this place ratings and everyone was complaining about how expensive and overpriced they are... the same complaint that I have written above. So then I am sitting at my desk at work and I am contemplating if I should continue to go this dentist place (which I should have just not gone) but I went anyway and made it a point to ask the receptionist how much my appointment would cost. So once I arrived, before my paperwork, I asked Robin how much it would cost for this appointment and she said it was free. Well fast forward six months when I decided to use a different dentist and all of a sudden I have costs? This doesn't seem right. I will be disputing the charges... this has NOTHING to do with what my plan covers, but everything to do with THEIR prices. read more

I had to go in to get a front-tooth chip repaired and several cavities filled, including a re-drill. The staff is crazy nice (Nancy the front desk lady rocks), the work was top-notch, and even afterward when my insurance co screwed them out of some money they stayed true to their original estimate and ate the extra cost. Nancy told me "we had to make the decision whether we're here for the patients or here for the insurance companies, and we chose to be here for the patients." Their technology is up to date, and they make the experience very comfortable (they have TVs and wifi headphones so you can watch hulu episodes while work's being done). I've been getting my teeth cleaned at Dental Elements for a few years now. Mixed reviews. The Good: 1. beautiful office 2. nice equipment 3. convenient downtown location 4. hygienist 2011-12 - friendly, helpful, thorough The Bad: 1. EXPENSIVE services: When compared to other dentists using my same insurance coverage, add services such as retainers, night grinding guards, fluoride, sealants... Dental Elements says they are not covered by insurance (when they in fact, are covered) or are exorbitantly more expensive out-of-pocket. Example: Retainer from Dental Elements: $500+. Retainer from Chapman Orthodontics $175. Same service/product provided. Can't seem to get my head wrapped around that?! 2. Hygienist 2013 - didn't clean thoroughly - rushed brushing, limited scraping, and mediocre flossing. I frankly felt like I clean my teeth better. 3. dentist spent no more than 2 minutes looking at my x-rays and seemed annoyed when I asked questions. ***I have previously had a very good experience at this office, but this was not the case for my December 2013 appointment. read more

Like most people, I'm not a fan of going to the dentist but Dental Elements is probably the best it's going to get. I was referred to this office by a friend of mine and was impressed when I first stepped in. They have a very clean & modern look to them. The entire staff is great - the transition goes very smoothly from the time you step in to the time you leave - from the front desk to the hygienist to Dr. Thurman to the billing office. The hygienist did a great job cleaning my teeth with what looked like very high tech up-to-date equipment and was super friendly. Dr. Thurman is very pleasant as well and so thorough as he went through each tooth with a camera and showed me on the screen if there were problem areas that needed fixing. Fast forward 4 months after my appointment - I get a bill for my cleaning and x-rays - which is why they got knocked down 2 stars. I was pretty upset because I had called in advance to make sure they took my insurance which I was told they did. Typically my dental cleanings are covered 100%. In this case they are considered "out of network." Having worked at an optometry office for several years in the past, I've billed many eye exams services and materials, so I know how upset people can get when you try to collect $ after the fact. Which is why we started to get insurance authorizations beforehand so there were no surprises down the road. I'm not sure if dental billing works the same as vision, but it would have been nice to get accurate information from the front desk. read more

Dr. Thurman and his staff are beyond fantastic. For someone with moderate-severe dental phobias, this is the place to be. He was accommodating, inquisitive and calming. After laughing gas and anti-anxiety medicine didn't seem to thwart my fears for my first-ever root canal (and more cavities than I care to admit), Dr. Thurman called in his contracted nurse for an off-hours appointment for IV sedation. While he did not encourage the IV sedation, Dr Thurman made sure I was aware of the benefits and downfalls of the sedative. Everything went seamlessly. After three hours of work (ending at 9pm!), Dr. Thurman discussed the treatment plan (which was printed out as well) and personally helped me to my car (which my boyfriend ran ahead to get - downside: no parking lot!). I was practically pain free the next day - though a little woozy from the anesthesia. BONUS: Dr. Thurman's state-of-the-art technology allows him to fit you for a permanent crown DURING the appointment - so no back and forth with temporaries - root canals can be done in one visit. His camera/wand contraption also allows you to survey the condition of teeth in the back of your mouth, so you can see the exact issues he's talking about and the treatment options he recommends. Yes, the dollar figure might be larger than, say, a clinic on the outskirts of town. But you're getting top-notch, hi-tech service from an office that is willing to work with a myriad of insurances and payment options, if necessary. I've never been so impressed by a dentist and office staff, and this is coming from someone who has had top-notch NYC boutique-dentists and orthodontics their entire life (yet still possess an unruly fear, go figure). I've made my decision - and will continue to see Dr. Thurman as long as I'm in Denver! read more

Full disclosure here, I don't love going to the dentist. I can pretty easily fall into the cycle of waiting too long to go, then needing lots of work, which then leads me to opt out of regular care. And on and on it goes. With that said, Dental Elements is the place for me and I always suggest that friends visit Dr. Thurman as well. A couple of years ago I had a horrible tooth ache and no regular dentist. After chatting with Dental Elements they were sympathetic to my pain and made room for me right away. That isn't always the case at an office where you aren't an established client. From there we came up with a plan for my care. They were knowledgeable with regard to my insurance and how much I could expect to pay out of pocket, and knowing all of that up front made the work that much easier. At one point during the process I was having an issue with a temporary crown. On a weekend. I sent an email and Dr. Thurman met me at the office that day. In addition to a lovely office space and a TV overhead with Hulu, this office has some cutting edge technology. Last week I had a crown done, from start to finish, in just one visit. Gone are the drool inducing, awfully uncomfortable and let's face it, just kind of disgusting molds, along with the follow up visits. From the computer images and the machine cutting out my new crown in back, to the easier process in general, I can say that it just wasn't the torture I've come to associate with this type of work. I will say that the 48-hour cancellation policy came as a surprise to me when I had to reschedule an appointment recently. I had something come up for work and still managed to give 24+ hours of notice, which was honestly the best I could do. I am not in the habit of missing or rescheduling at the last minute and fortunately they were able to work with me. Now that I am aware of the rule I will definitely schedule with more care, and I can see both sides of this policy even though I was initially disappointed. One more big positive, they are a paper-free office and have been as long as I've been a client. read more
