I've known about Denon & Doyle for years. They have performed at our company events at Apple Computer since I have worked there. When I was starting my wedding planning I picked up a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine and read a feature on them as well. For some reason I assumed they were way out of my budget and discounted them in my search for a DJ. I did not think finding a DJ would be that hard until I started looking around. The ones that would meet with me insisted on meeting at coffee places since I guess they all work at this part-time. I met with several and they just did not seem to have it. I also had several invite me to se them at events they were performing at. Let me tell you a true story; I arrived at the wedding one DJ invited me to attend to see him perform. I was pretty much getting the stink eye from the family members and was feeling a bit uncomfortable, but decided to stick it out and see how he performed. Part way through the dinner the DJ came over and starting conversing with me. We walked out in the hallway and about ten minutes later the father of the bride came out, very frustrated, and asked the DJ to please pay attention to the reception as he was needed. As soon as the DJ went back inside the father of the bride told me I was not invited and to please leave. I was humiliated and at first furious with the father of the bride. Then it hit me, I had just crashed his daughters wedding at the invite of the DJ. My dad would probably be doing the same thing with another person at my wedding if I hired a guy like this. Right then I had enough and decided to bite the bullet, pay the extra money, and see if I could get D&D. When I called them they dropped the price bomb on me in the first 20 seconds. $1095. What, why did I not call them before. The also invited me to their showcase. I have to tell you they were very impressive. Their office is top notch, and their staff is made up of beautiful people who all treat you like you are the most important person in the world. It really is quite impressive how they attract such talented, good looking and obviously educated people. At the showcase I was surprised to see Andrew, the Dj we use so much at Apple. He was open on my date and I booked him on the spot. Leading up to the wedding I did most of my details with Chris Mowery, or Cowboy as they call him there. He was always helpful with suggestions and always left me feeling reassured. On the wedding day the first person I saw as I was exciting the Limo was Andrew. He had a glass of champagne for me and a bud light for my husband. He let me know that all the guests were inside and he had gathered the bridal party outside the door for the introductions. This is getting way to long. To cut to the chase, Andrew was such a gentleman, a great MC, and perfect DJ. Hire these guys. If you don't believe me, meet with a couple other DJs, crash a wedding, then go to D&D's showcase. Then you will hire these guys. read more

We booked Denon and Doyle for the DJ, uplighting, and photobooth at our recently March wedding. Both Sue and Mark, the main contacts for the company, were very easy to contact, and responded quickly to e-mail (my preferred choice of communication). I couldn't recommend Mark Haggerty as our DJ highly enough! He contacted me a couple weeks before the wedding, and was very responsive regarding any questions I had, and was very good at detailing how the set up would work, and how the music would be played at the wedding. After talking to him, I felt pretty at ease about how everything would go down. On the wedding day, he went through everything from the timeline to how to pronounce names to make sure everything was perfect. He checked up on us multiple times after the ceremony, and during the reception to make sure we didn't need anything. And I was extremely worried that we'd have an empty dance floor the entire night, but surpisingly, we ended up with a full dance floor when we opened it after the cake cutting! The only reason why it eventually dwindled down was because everyone got distracted by the photobooth. ;) He still kept playing awesome music, and we did get people back on the dance floor once they had their fun with the photobooth, and he ended the night with some awesome song selections that had me and my friends singing along and dancing until the end (Mark even pulled out a blow up guitar and strummed along with our air guitars for Living On A Prayer). Lastly, we were really worried that we'd get a really corny emcee/dj, but Mark definitely was not either of those things, which made me and my husband both very happy. The photobooth, if you haven't already gathered from my paragraph above, was a total hit! The pictures are crisp, they print quickly, and come in both black and white. We had a really simple background planned for it, and that was easily accommodated (the first time, I think they mixed up my request with someone else's, but that was quickly fixed in about an hour after I emailed about it). We had props, which everyone loved, and the stack of photostrips I have to paste into my guestbook is a testament to its popularity. The attendent (I think his name is James) was extremely accommodating, and was good natured and had the sense of humor to deal with my crazy friends. haha. As for the uplighting, we originally agreed on 6 of them, but on the wedding day, they threw in 2 more for free, and the 8 lights really did help bring the room together. All in all, I highly recommend this company for any of the above services. And again, I can't recommend Mark enough. If you decide to go with him, I'm positive you will be pleased with the music and emceeing at your wedding! read more

First off, Denon & Doyle rocked our wedding! They made us and our family feel like superstars. Choosing them for our day was easy, especially after many phone calls to other DJ companies ended in a quick hang up or no returned call. My wife and I both lead busy lifestyles, and to have a company walk us through, not just the day, but the whole process, was worth every cent. Peace of mind alone made me open the flood gates to my Charles Schwab account. From the first call to big day I knew everything was in good hands. I wasn't offered different levels of DJ's or or sketchy discounts for booking in the next couple of days, like a few other companies hit me with in the first few minutes of conversation. They listened, offered suggestions, helped with suggestions on photographers, and even had all the information emailed to me 5 minutes after we talked. They have an online wedding planner which makes everything simple and easy to do late in the evenings. It was nice to have the option to remain green, especially when trying to reduce ones carbon footprint. The day of the reception our DJ was amazing, kept us on time, and even went the extra mile as to help make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I'm cracking up at these other companies that want to post negative reviews. Maybe if they look more at the business plan and customer service side that Denon & Doyle provides, they would not have time to be such a keyboard warrior. I read the reviews on YELP and laughed. There are triple the amount of positive than there are negative and the one about the midget in an alley in Oakland just reeks of ignorance. If you are another DJ company posting negatives on here make a choice, grow up or find another profession. Your attitude made the decision to Denon and Doyle that much easier, their general caring took the decision over the top. I love Denon & Doyle because everytime we hear a song from our reception we smile, everytime we talk one of the guests, the memories are there, and everytime I look in my wife's eyes the magic is relived. Thank you Denon & Doyle for being a part of the celebration! read more

Well my sister's wedding coordinator referred us to Denon and Doyle for both the wedding DJ and for the photobooth. I was present for the meeting with the DJ a week before the wedding to go over song selection, show him the venue and to go over what the overall vibe was for the wedding. I thought the meeting went well and that he left knowing exactly what to play, what not to play and what our guests liked to dance to.... but that didnt go as planned. Before i get into the songs- the most important role of a dj who is assisting with the ceremony is to know his equipment. "Jon" our djay apprently did his mic check etc earlier in the day but when it came time for the ceremony, not only did the guitarist's mic did not work but neither did the officiant's nor the bride/grooms! I was SO upset b/c everything looked beautiful, we had all put in so much work and then Jon comes running down in the middle of the ceremony and hands the officiant a handheld microphone. DO you have any idea how ugly and tacky that looks in pictures, especially when she has to pass it back and forth between the bride and groom to do their vows? To this day i am stil fuming as to how that all happened. Once the reception started, 80% of the songs that were played were what we asked for but the first 15 minutes were EXACTLY what we had said NOT to play. Rumor had it that Jon had left his computer at home and was using a back up. i have no idea if that was true or not but either way, it was just dissapointing to know that we had paid extra to have a meeting with him a week before the wedding and it all went to waste. The worse thing about ALL of of it was that i wrote him an email after the event and he NEVER even responded or apoligized. Weeks later i did finally hear from Brian ( i think the owner?) and he said sorry. But to not here from the guy who actually did the event is SO wrong. On a positive note- their photobooth was a hit, but i cant imagine how you could screw that up other than forgetting it. read more

Denon and Doyle just did our daughter's Bat Mitzvah. The party could not have been a bigger success. We had an afternoon event, with about a 100 guests, half of them kids. Not only did we ourselves feel great about how the party went, but heard from many of our guests, across age groups, how much fun they had. Justin, our DJ and lead, did an outstanding job managing the flow of the party, and engaging the kids. He and his crew were also fantastic motivating everyone to dance. In fact, everyone got so enthusiastic and comfortable, that people kept coming into the middle of the dance circle to demonstrate their cool moves - kids and adults alike! One other party activity that was very successful was a game show. We ended up doing a second round during the party, requested by popular demand. Leading up to the party, we had 3 meeting with Denon and Doyle: 2 with Dan at their offices, and one with Justin, our DJ and lead, at the venue. Working with Denon and Doyle was very easy. They were very flexible and accommodating. At the initial meeting, Dan asked my daughter what kind of party she would to have, and was very good about implementing her wishes. They hey had an extensive list of songs and games we selected from, as well as incorporated quite a few of our special requests. We also opted for having Denon and Doyle run our 2 video montages - one continuously in the background, and the main 12 min feature. I was so glad that I asked them to do it. I did not have to worry about testing the equipment with the DVD, and worry about a thing at the party. All they needed was the data file from me which we shared via the Dropbox, and they took care of the rest. Even though I missed the deadline for getting the it to them, Dan was extremely understanding, and had his audiovisual crew stay past their hours on the day prior to the event to finish making the DVD. I really really appreciated that. Thank you Denon and Doyle! You made our celebration such a great event! read more

Two words: HIRE CHRIS!!!!! We used D and D for our wedding on Aug 31, 2012 outside of Auburn and it went better than we could have ever planned. Not only were their services totally affordable, but they totally delivered a great party. Chris showed up earlier than expected to set up (no stressing about where the DJ is from this bride!), and appeared in a nice suit and jacket after our ceremony bearing bottled water for my groom and myself. He was very helpful with the photographer, helping me carry my train and laying it out for pictures. During the reception, he was very good about approaching the groom or I and saying things like "in about 10 minutes, we are going to do speeches so if you want to get up and mingle or if you want to sit and eat, you should." This allowed us to have fun and enjoy our wedding, without having to act as coordinators or worrying about where we needed to be and when. In terms of his microhone use, he was perfect. Our biggest requirement for our DJ was DON''T BE CHEESY, and Chris was anything but. He was on the mic about 5 times throughout the night that I can remember, and each time it was to gently guide everyone to where they needed to be. He had the dance floor packed with people who swore up and down to me that they wouldn't dance at our wedding, but when I looked around, they were sweating up a storm in their boogie shoes. He even got my parents dancing "the sprinkler." I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend Denon & Doyle, especially Chris, to ANYONE looking to make their party an awesome one! Pros: affordable, modifable requests to your event, easy to contact when questions arose, on-line planner is easy to use, professional services, huge music selectiona nd abilty to add any song you want to playlist, lots of commuication on day-of Cons: not a lot of contact until right before wedding, which can be different for worrisome brides and grooms read more

Denon & Doyle came to our attention via the kid grapvine and our 14 year old for his bar mitzvah celebration/party. Initially indifferent to even having a party, he went to a friends party that had hired "D&D" and had the time of his life (so far). He's shy kid who we guessed was worried about being the center of attention for an entire evening, so it was curious when he told us he that the emcee was "sooooo cool" and could we have him at his party. I checked out the pricing and it wasn't cheap. Still in the context of everything else...travel cost for the out of town family., the caterer, the facility rental we went in knowing this wasn't going to be an inexpensive night . And of all the bills, D&D's was the easiest to pay. Our families (never very fond of each other) for the first time in my memory actually seemed happy to be together. The emcee cooked up all these cute/slightly hokey activities to get the kids (and the adults) to participate and it actually worked. The kids, boy's especially, are usually too cool to get involved with this kind of stuff, but the emcee was more like a really cool big brother than some adult trying to annoy them. So they danced! With the girls! The glow lasted almost through brunch the next day. D&D turned what I felt might be an ordeal into a blast for all of us, especially our son. read more

Mark Haggerty, Sue Doyle, Megan Rumsey and the crew at Denon & Doyle are the absolute best! My husband and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony and a dinner reception that was a little different than a normal reception. We not only had a jazz band providing live music, but a gospel group who performed a mini-concert AND pre-recorded music for dancing at the end of the evening. Mark did a fantastic job as MC for both the ceremony and the dinner reception, keeping our guests informed of what was coming up next, since there was so much going on that evening. He later DJ'd the dancing portion of the evening, and had our guests on their feet and on the dance floor. We also had an animated gobo with three different images, and a green screen photo booth with a ton of backgrounds, all provided by D&D. The photo booth was a total hit with my guests; had we known there would be such a long line for the photo booth, we would have allocated more space in that corner. Sue gave me a really good price (without my even trying to haggle about money) on everything. I couldn't be more pleased with D&D. I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat! If I ever give another big function, Denon & Doyle will be one of the first establishments I call! read more

Denon & Doyle proves that the right DJ is one of the most important elements of a successful event. From our very first phone inquiry to the last dance at our wedding, everyone and everything was great. I enjoyed each communication with Addington, Chris, Brian and our amazing DJ, Kevin Hartman. When I checked out their website, I was so impressed that I knew I wanted D&D to do the music at our wedding. It was absolutely the right decision and DJ Kevin was perfect. In fact, he had been personally recommended by several of our vendors. We had a personal meeting with Kevin and went over D&D's detailed planning form ensuring that the music we wanted would be played and the music that we didn't want wouldn't be played. Kevin was really attentive to our requests and he set up a great sound system for both the ceremony and the reception. Everyone loved the music and Kevin got everyone up and dancing. He's a charming guy and has the skill to read the crowd and play the right music at the right time. I could go on and on but suffice to say that hiring Denon & Doyle for your wedding or any other event is the right choice! read more

As a guy who previously knew very little about planning weddings, I had thought it was a bit ridiculous to hire a D.J. for the wedding. Why, we have an iPod, press play and we're good. Thankfully, my beautiful bride didn't listen to me and instead took me to an orientation meeting at Denon & Doyle's. Gents - DO NOT roll with the iPod - it's not that simple. I can't tell you how ridiculous and naive I felt sitting through that incredibly professional and thorough orientation. D&D went through every step of the wedding reception. Song suggestions, icebreakers (very cool), guidance...there was so much to the wedding I never thought about before because I've never gone through this process. If you want to have a classy, professional, and most important, a really fun wedding, I would highly recommend that as a couple, y'all sit down and meet with D&D. Our D.J. was Brian Holmes and he was a Saint. It's an investment into your own wedding and it will pay off handsomely in the end when you're listening to your excited guests fondly recall moments of the wedding - M read more

Amazing, Fun, Extrodianary, Really went ABOVE AND FAR FAR BEYOND our expectations. We had a beautiful setting, the palace of fine arts on a beautiful day. After our sunny ceremony we sat down for our dinner under the windy rotunda. Everything was great and then the wind really kicked up and a few things blew over and our guests were freezing. While we are trying to rush the dances, cake cutting, etc... Solomon, our FABULOUS dj, talked to the Exploratorium and was able to convience them to let us use their lobby for dancing. Needless to say he kinda saved the night. Not only did he get us to an indoor venue but he also really, really, encouraged our crowd to get out there and dance and have FUN. Solomon was great. We also have friends who used Denon and Doyle about two months ago for their wedding and their dj was cleaning leaves from the pool before their wedding, without being asked. These guys go WAY, WAY beyond your expectations. They play exactly what you want and they are so nice and fun. Thank you for everything, we truly appreciate it. You were AMAZING read more

I contacted Brian after reading the reviews D & D received in Yelp. My daughter was having a second wedding ceremony (religoius) and party, two years after the original civil marriage was performed in DC. After agreeing to the deal, all the contacts, arrangements and play list were handled long distance between my daughter and Brian. She also requested a disc of Hatian music be used, which she sent ahead of time. For the ceremony, which was held outdoors in the magnificient back garden of friends in Walnut Creek, Natasha and Donald arrived on time and set up their equipment. A few last minute details were gone over and the ceremony began on time as planned. Natasha was fantastic with her timing of the processionals, the dancing mix was superb, she engaged all ages in the group dancing, and played for 4 hours solid. Her music selections were uncanilly relevant to the mood and activities of the guests at any given time during the party. Natasha and Donald were a wonderful asset to our function, which was enjoyed by all. THANK YOU!!! read more

Apologies for double posting -- but finally revived my old Yelp account that I thought was lost forever! Mark DJ-ed our wedding and we couldn't be happier. He planned out our music out perfectly: -- Classical for the ceremony -- Jazz for the cocktail hour -- Big Band for the first couple of songs on the dance floor. -- Followed by Motown, Funk, '70s, ''80s. '90s, Today as we danced the night away! Mark got everyone out on the dance floor. Everyone. He played lots of classics for the elderly folks early in the evening, and his transition into more modern songs late into the night kept the party going and going. A number of our guests even asked for his playlist for their own future parties / weddings! He kept the whole evening running smoothly and on time, from the toasts to Hava Nagila. And the best part: He helped my dad with a special father-daughter dance surprise -- a live version of "Beyond the Sea" performed by my uncle. I had absolutely no idea and they pulled it off with incredible fanfare. read more

For the past two years, we hired Denon & Doyle for our school's end-of-the-year formal at the Presidio Golf Course Cafe...and they were fantastic! They sent AJ two years in a row...what a great guy!! Professional, fun, energetic...they are so lucky to have AJ working for & representing them! Looking amongst our crowd of students, staff & faculty, we saw how much fun everyone was having...AJ caters to the crowd wonderfully! In preparing for our formal, Denon & Doyle was outstanding in communicating with us, what music we wanted & what to shy away from. I love the online request list that you can build...such an easy & efficient way to relay what tunes we were hoping for. Starting with the Big Band/Jazz Standards during our dinner & transitioning to an eclectic array of music for the dancing portion...the music selection was spot-on :) I hope to continue collaborating with them in the years to come...they really have that unique touch to make your event one you'll always remember :) read more

My Husband and I just got married a couple weeks ago and we are still have friends raving about how much fun they had at our wedding. Our DJ Mark Haggarty did a stellar job in creating a seemless event, and truly accommodated to our guests with the type of music he knew would get people on the floor dancing all night long. He listened to all of my ideas and contributed his expertise to complete my vision. Not only am I more than happy with my experience with Mark but the ENTIRE Denon and Doyle team. Every question I had they provided a prompt response and catered to my request. My guests have been asking for my DJ's number because they want them at their wedding....and some of them are not even dating anyone! Thank you so much Mark and the entire Denon and Doyle Team for making our Wedding the most memorable and enjoyable day. It truly was a day of celebration that all of our friends and family could celebrate with us. read more

Niall from Denon and Doyle was the DJ for our Sept 2009 wedding and he rocked the reception!!! As an Irish bride, I wanted a mix of Irish songs and other music and he got the balance just right. He seemed to read the crowd and mood perfectly. One of my bridesmaids said she was waiting for him to play a bad song so she could sit down but it never came. I felt the same way. Everyone had a great time dancing, several guests were bathed in sweat from the exertion - that's a sign of a great party! Apart from playing excellent music, Niall discretely ensured everything kept moving along. From the beginning, Denon and Doyle and Niall were friendly and professional. Their open house was very helpful and informative and their on-line tools made everything very easy - choosing songs, making payments etc. One less thing to stress about during what is a very stressful time. I will definitely use them at my next wedding :) read more

We went with these guys after reading their great reviews on "the Knot". We had such a good feeling about them but held off to book until we could attend one of their showcases. It was great. They are so professional and their entire staff is displays the kind of customer service you rarely see these days. We asked them to choose a DJ from their staff that matched our personalities and we got Kevin. He was amazing. It was like having our own concierge at the wedding. Not only did he play great music and coordinate our events, but he was always watching out for our family, bridal party and friends. I think he topped off my champagne glass twice and at one point I even witnessed him escorting my grandmother to the food stations. I am very glad with went with this company. They were about $200 more then the average DJ, but they were not average at all. Because of them neither was my reception. read more

While it's fresh in my mind I just have to give a shout out to Denon & Doyle who DJed Bat Mitzvah Reception I put together last weekend. I'm Lana Leykin, an event planner (Miracle Events), and D & D sent out Seth and his crew. They were amazing! What makes for a really great DJ? Intelligence and natural charm, cool wardrobe, good taste in music--knowing what will work and what won't, top-of-the-line lighting equipment, the absolute best sound equipment--including someone who knows how to put it together quickly, test it, and be able to straighten out any technical difficulties without the audience even knowing. Seth and his crew had this crowd dancing and dancing, and learning new moves too. The kids had non-stop fun. I can recommend Denon & Doyle with confidence. They're a vendor that an event planner is pleased and relieved to have as a resource to do their part to make an event great. read more
