Blueberry pancake sampler.. eggs slightly overcooked
Kristina B.

Decided to give Dennys another shot. I was craving pancakes and no way as I gonna go back to IHOP. The blueberry pancakes satisfied my craving.. they have improved with their pancakes. 2 meals $21.60 not bad. However service continues to be SLOW! And waitress forgot a few things. The place was empty so I would understand otherwise.

I liked the Chicken with the Caeser salad and the cheese sticks with marinara. It was good but not 5 star good.

La Casa De Frida - The barbacoa plate, offered on Saturdays & Sundays only. OMGAWD! Their corn tortillas are so good too!

Given the name and aesthetic, it would make more sense to play music inspired by Frida Kahlo's tastes--Mexican folk, mariachi, jazz, or even classical--to enhance the experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They understood English well, even though they primarily spoke Spanish, which wasn't an issue. The menu was written in Spanish but included clear English descriptions, making it easy to navigate. Overall, it's a pleasant spot with potential, but the ambiance could be improved to better match the concept. The huevos rancheros plate was okay, but there were a few disappointing details. The beans tasted like they came straight out of a can and were served in very small portions, along with the potatoes. The potatoes were cut into very large pieces and were under-seasoned, which made them less enjoyable. Overall, it was filling, but with better seasoning and more care in the sides, this dish could be much better.

Unos chilaquiles bueno. Buena salsa. Un menudo muy apestoso…read more Service and Ambience was nice! Could probably use more Frida Kahlo art inside the restaurant since it is named after her. I ordered the chilaquiles with added ribeye and it was excellent! I like how their chilaquiles isn't totally soggy/mushy, there is still just enough crunch to the tortilla chips. The salsas were also very good. I also ordered the menudo which I did not really like. I think the menudo has slightly more flavor than Lira's, but the menudo smelled so bad! You can smell right away that the tripe is not cleaned. At least with Lira's menudo you cannot smell the tripe at all but it tasted bland to me. With Casa de Frida there was a little more flavor but not enough to overlook the poop smell of the tripe. I think I would rather have a bland menudo and just add more salsa and limon for more flavor than have a stinky menudo. I would not recommend ordering the menudo just because it smelled so bad. Everything else was great! (Honestly, One star off for the menudo, a half star off for the lack of Frida art inside the restaurant. I would give 3.5 stars if I could. Seriously, the menudo smelled so bad!)

The food was fast and delicious ! My baby boy loved the pesto pasta and salmon as we shared it. My mom also ate all of her food as well and said how good it was. The prices here are reasonable compared to Houston or Dallas, for example, but most everything is a la carte, so you can spend a lot quickly if not careful. My eyes were set on the seabass ceviche, so I know I had to have that. I also wanted a cocktail, but I remembered I had a long drive ahead of me, so I just opted for more food instead. I ordered the corn flake fried chicken sandwich. Ceviche - a nicely sized portion that comes with 2 crispy tortillas. Inside the ceviche are finely diced carrots, red onions and cucumbers, cilantro, sliced avocado, and numerous pieces of diced fish and lime juice at the bottom. 5/5 Chicken sandwich - served on a plate with 2 sliced yellow cherry tomatoes sitting face down. This has a large breast, with pickles and cole slaw. 3/5 This is my kinda place, and it seems fairly unusual to find a restaurant like this in Laredo of all places. I would definitely come back on my next visit to Laredo.

Kettle Restaurant - Toasted/hard as a rock hash browns and EXPIRED bacon.

While down in Laredo, I was taken aback! I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw the…read moresign. I have not seen a Kettle in decades. While growing up in Conroe as a young lad, a Kettle was located in town near the interstate. It was never really a culinary delight, but it was 24 hours, and catered to the drunken crowd at 2 A.M. After many years, it closed, and I've never seen one since. Curious to see if the Kettle was still the same, my friend and I decided to give this one a whirl. To be fair, my expectations were low, and the bar was set very low upon walking in. I have always thought of Kettle to be a red headed step child to Shoney's. Upon pulling in the parking lot, it was not very busy. The exterior was pretty run down, and the building looks like it could use a facelift and a new coat of paint. Upon walking in we were greeted and sat down in good time. The inside looked like an old antiquated diner, as expected, but was surprisingly clean. Upon walking to our table, we passed by a dog approximately the size of a Labrador, sitting by a table. No biggie, maybe it is a service dog. Upon closer look, the dog was not a service dog, and was a pet of a homely looking fella in a booth. Before all of the dog lovers get on my case about being mean to dogs, I am a dog lover myself, and have two dogs of my own. Also, my comment regarding the homely fella is not meant to be offensive, as I am not better than anyone. That being said, the dog was not a service dog, and was very attentively waiting to be fed by its owner. The dog also had no vest, or items that usually mark a service dog. It was at this point I was tempted to leave, as this is disgusting, and highly unsanitary. While the establishment should have a no dog policy (service dogs excluded), I decided to give this place a chance. The waitress took our drink orders, brought our drinks, and took our order. The menus look old, and the food in the pictures do not look very appealing. My friend ordered the #41 and I ordered a three egg omelet. We waited for our food, and our drink glasses stayed at acceptable levels. So far, so good. Food came out in average time. My omelet was very good. The hash browns left a little to be desired, but still not bad. My friend ate his food and did not have any complaints. The service sort of trailed off after we got our food. We asked for our check, but the waitress never came back. After we waited long enough, we just decided to go up to the front and wait for our check. When we did that, our waitress reappeared quickly, and cashed us out. Overall, I would say the experience was just meh. My low expectations did not disappoint me at all. The food was surprisingly good, and better than the one in Conroe I was accustomed to. The experience with the dog just ruined it for me. This could have easily been a three or four star visit, Fido ruined that. Do I recommend this place? I would say maybe. Depending on what you are looking for, and if you have an open mind, I would say sure, why not. If you are looking for a more modern and upscale place, pass on by. I would have to say this is probably my first review where I have been so indecisive on recommending a place to eat or not. Enjoy.

The food is unsatisfactory. I ordered the eggtravaganza which consist of 4 eggs, hash browns and bacon with a side order of two pancakes. After about 30 minutes of waiting, I finally got my meal. The eggs were "MEH", the hash browns were extremely toasted and hard as a rock. When I tasted them, I taught I had gotten a small rock on my teeth. The bacon, appeared undercooked and had a distinct taste and smell to it. I spit it out as , as It was EXPIRED. I put the plate aside and tried the pancakes. They were "grainy and blend", I ate a few bites and abandoned the plate. I told the waitress of the EXPIRED bacon and for her to tell the cook. She just said OK, and if I wanted something different. I said "no" the bacon had ruined my appetite. I asked for the bill, she went to get it. Upon paying I noticed she removed the plate and left the pancakes. Nonetheless, I ended up paying about 15 bucks for two pancakes and a cup of coffee. Service and food are horrible at such place.
