(4.25 STARS)…read more Memorial Day road trips always seem to create the best random discoveries, and Pit Stop Bar & Grill absolutely delivered. Tucked away off Victor Street in Barstow, this was a fun find while driving back to Los Angeles from Vegas over Memorial Day weekend. Big props to Haley M., who was basically running a one-woman show and somehow kept the entire place moving with a great attitude and solid service. That alone made the stop memorable. The location has a cool, laid-back vibe with plenty to keep people entertained while grabbing food and drinks. They've got two billiards tables, a dart board, and all kinds of classic bar games, board games, and card games, including UNO, which is a family favorite. They also have several televisions. The food was all good too. I really enjoyed the Green Chili Burger, and everyone else in my party seemed genuinely happy with their meals as well. I felt they were trying to nickel and dime when I got the bill, i was charged for a side of ranch, a side of BBQ, and had no idea I was being up charged for the onion rings. I didn't say a word, but it hit wrong with me. .75 points deducted. What especially stood out to me, though, was the Memorial Day place setting displayed near the front entrance honoring our veterans and fallen heroes. It was simple, respectful, and genuinely touching. See my picture. That detail said a lot about the heart behind this place. If you're making the Vegas-to-LA drive and want something more memorable than the usual freeway fast-food stop, this place is definitely worth checking out. Great atmosphere, friendly energy, and one of those spots you end up talking about later.

We ate anyway. It was good. My husband had a fresco melt and he liked it. I do think the service would have been better had there been any other customers, or maybe not the middle of the night? The waiter was refilling things behind the counter, but prepping them in the back first so it was difficult to get his attention. We finished with no napkins or utensils (glad we both got sandwiches and tots, lol) washed our hands, paid, and left. While waiting for our food we washed up and checked out the retro art/ads, pretty cool vibe. Overall, I probably wouldn't make my husband come back, but if he suggested it I wouldn't say no, so make of that what you will, lol.

A Little Mexican Food Gem in the Middle of Nowhere!…read more Okay, Barstow... you surprised us! We stumbled upon this charming little Mexican restaurant tucked inside a La Quinta hotel, which is probably not where we expected to find such a delicious and authentic meal! We stopped in for Sunday brunch and were so glad we did. The staff was friendly and welcoming, everything was clean, and the food was the real star of the show. We had chile verde, pozole, and homemade tortillas--and those tortillas were SO good! Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and homemade. They also had an omelette bar, plus some very tempting churros and donuts for those who believe breakfast should end with dessert. (We do.) Honestly, this was such a fun little find in an unexpected place. If you're road-tripping through Barstow, this is absolutely a place to put on your list. Whether you're heading between LA and Vegas or just passing through, it's worth making the stop. Great food, great staff, clean surroundings, and a surprisingly authentic Mexican brunch in the middle of nowhere! Travelers: save this one! You may not expect to find a food gem inside a hotel in Barstow, but this one is definitely worth the detour.

Apparently GPS doesn't really know where this joint is. Nevertheless, we all found our way and pulled in about 30 seconds apart. There is a good selection of burgers to choose from here. My mom and I each got a chili burger. My step dad went with a western bacon burger. They were brought to our table in a reasonably short time. The chili burgers came out first followed less than a minute later by the western. The chili on the chili burgers was nicely flavored with a bit of spice. It was not really the best choice of chili style for a burger but it was darn good. It was rather thin, though, and didn't hold on to the burger very well. Made for a messy burger. I used at least 6 napkins. Please don't misunderstand these comments as criticism. Its not. Simply a heads up that this is a "drip down your arm" mess of goodness. Pro tip, use your fries to scoop up the chili that drips out of the burger. Boom, instant chili fries. My step dad's western burger looked great. Big onions rings, crispy bacon and lots of BBQ sauce. He enjoyed it. I didn't try it myself so I can't say much more about that. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. There is a TV in the corner playing old cartoons. And a bay of toy machines for the kids and kids at heart. A good family type of restaurant. This is close to half way between my fam and me. That makes this a good place for future weekend meet ups.

It's a little unfair, as I can go to "the" original Tommy's whenever I'm in the area, and there's something about the original that you just can't match. Similar to Five Guys (though I think these guys came before Five Guys), everything is a double burger. What's different is the chili! While people try to eat this burger with their hands, it's meant to be eaten with a fork. As I just don't eat that much anymore, I was able to get just a single burger. My dining partner got the cheeseburger with everything. The food was good, but messy. Loved the fries. Sadly, unless a place is so amazingly good that it overshadows the fact that I'm drinking Diet Pepsi instead of Coke, it will cost a star.

Dine in: May 15, 2026…read more It's my first time trying the Original Tommy's burger restaurant. We came here specifically for the 80 cent chili cheeseburgers deal for their 80th anniversary. There was so many people waiting in line to order and also waiting for there foods. The hype of the chili cheeseburgers isn't even that awesome. It was a waste of my 2 hours+ for the foods that taste similar to sloppy joe from the cafeteria. It felt so suffocating waiting for our foods since there's so many people already waiting before us. The lighting was bright and it's pretty spacious but felt pretty off with everyone still waiting 2-3 hours+ for their orders. Its very chaotic while several customer's were going nuts because of the wait. While they were complaining to staff members when their foods coming out. We almost got our foods sooner but several women's when off on the staff for waiting x amount of hours and still didn't get the orders yet. We ended up having to wait until 10:33pm to get all our orders. We requested to get french fries first which was around 10:13pm since we're hungry. But mind you we been here waiting since 8:04pm for the whole order. We finally took our first chili cheeseburgers bite at 10:38pm. We left the restaurant by 10:59pm/11pm. The fries we requested at around 10:13pm was hot and fresh. By the time our whole order was ready to be called for us to pick up at the front counter. The batch of fries inside the box was already cold & old which tasted soggy and nasty. I don't understand how it wasn't even fresh at all since we were like the last few 10 customers left out of a few hundred after the 5pm - 7pm rush hour slot was over. We landed in the 8pm slot with only about 10 customers left or so. The customers was greedy as well who ordered multiple foods on different receipts. There was some who had stacks of receipts just for the chili cheeseburgers alone. We came here for the chili cheeseburgers(8), fries(4), Large drinks(2), and an ice cream cone but they only had cups(1). Most people only came here for the chili cheeseburgers only. The cash register lady told us we can purchase a multiple of 10 burgers per receipts. We only got 8 chili cheeseburgers since everyone was hypeing how great it was. It was just a big fat disappointment. You can literally get it elsewhere with better service and fresher taste. The chili cheeseburgers alone had so little bits of ground meat in it. I literally thought it would be on the chunky side but nope. The beef patty was small like the size of a hamburger patty at McDonald's. The buns is the only thing that was big which made the burgers looked big. They only put so little chili on each burgers as well. So the ingredients to me personally seems a bit on the cheaper side not worth the time and effort. I really don't understand how people hype how good their burgers are. The burgers and fries did not taste as fresh as I thought it would be. Everyone who's exaggerated about the chili cheeseburgers need to rethink it again. There are better burgers that taste more delicious and a bigger portion. My overall experience was definitely not that wonderful. I personally would not recommend this restaurant in general. The staff wasn't all that nice and friendly. I really don't understand the disorganized staff members and the food order arrangement was not coming out in an orderly manner. There was no intercom to call out your number. Everyone waited too long for their orders. They should have capped the multiple transactions for each customer to only one per visit. Then again everyone was so greedy. I just wondered if they were all going to eat it in one sitting. We couldn't even finish all our foods which we took the rest home for later in the week. I know we were greedy too but at least we did not have multiple receipts. The food was not completely fresh eventhough we waited for hours for the completed food order. You literally thought since they were busy shouldn't the foods be hot and fresh too. I personally think they gave us other people leftovers who ordered something differently and requested a redo for their burgers. I'm 100% sure they repackaged it with a new wrapper and gave it to us so we can consume it. I hope it's not true. I see it all the time when it usually happens behind the seen because the workers too lazy to cook more. I actually got one chili cheeseburgers with missing half a patty. I really don't know what happened to it but it was missing. So I'm assuming it probably dropped or so and they were too lazy to make more. After we got back home I had a tummy ache. I ended up having a massive diarrhea. It's a good thing I made it home before it ended up on myself. I'm thinking the chili kicked in. I will not come back here again at all. But you never know I might change my mind in the future. You can give them a try. Be your own judge. Eat at your own RISK. As of now it's a no go for me!!
