I have been going to Jordan for my blonde for 2 years now and honestly can say I will never go to another stylist for as long as I live. My husband and I are making the move to the suburbs with our son-- and you better believe I will be coming into the city for my hair. First. Jordan is a magician as someone put it. He's amazing. He makes my hair look absolutely incredible. Second, despite his insta sensation + high profile clients, he always makes me feel like I am his #1 when I am there. He is not pretentious and I never feel uncomfortable (which was a concern I had before coming for the first time). All and all, I've had nothing but an incredible experience. I came here last minute to get my hair colored before going on vacation. The first picture is what I showed the colorist - I emphasized that I wanted to be blonde all over. The rest of the photos are my hair after I left the salon. Decide for yourself if that's worth $280. I contacted the owner about it and he told me they specialize in highlights and what I wanted was a double process - OK, the colorist should've let me know that instead of going ahead and giving me poorly blended highlights. Offered to add in "more highlights", refused to give me a refund. I have never ever asked for a refund for a service before. I always tip generously when a service is done with care. I am genuinely in shock. For a place that charges almost 400$ after tip for a balayage, i may as well could have gone to super cuts. After Kelly didn't do what I asked, I reached out to see if she would fix it. She was incredibly rude, and then finally agreed to. When I got there, she was so unprofessional and LITERALLY HAD ME BLOW DRY MY OWN HAIR. Save your money, go ANYWHERE else. I currently live in Los Angles but I am originally from the Chicago area. I am home visiting my family for a few weeks and wanted to get my hair colored while in the area. My LA hairdresser recommended Jordan to me because blonde coloring is his specialty. I called the salon to make a potential appointment but they were closed on Sunday. I should have read the yelp reviews (instead of relying on IG) before I decided to go here. I was in desperate need of a trim before an upcoming wedding, I had a pretty wild mane. I wanted to book with Marissa but she was out of town and I let them schedule me with a other girl. Service and salon was great, my cut unfortunately not so much... I didn't realize how choppy my cut was until I washed it and flat ironed it. I feel like when i split my hair in half the cut should blend like normal layers instead it looks tiered. Had a full head of balayage with Greg this morning and couldn't be more pleased with the results! I showed him a picture and of what I kind of was looking for and he exceeded my expectations! As a hairstylist myself I've found it hard to find someone to do my hair as I am extremely picky. Greg was kind, talented and made me feel at ease as soon as I sat in his chair. He was easy to talk to and seems like an all around good dude. He managed to make my dark hair lighter and sunkissed all while maintaining the integrity of my hair. The WORST salon experience I have ever had. The only luxury thing about this place is the location. This salon is just a bunch of undertrained and unprofessional stylists. I came in for a touch up and gloss and what I received was an entirely new botched look. I left feeling ugly, ripped off, in tears, and tied my hair in a bun before exiting the salon. The stylist listened to my concerns about my hair color and did give me a great color although it was just a touch up and gloss so not too difficult to achieve, but the real issues began after the color was applied. I was led back to the wash bowl area but no one was able to rinse me out at the time so I was led back to the waiting area for a bit (no problem). Finally, an assistant came to wash my color out. He rinsed out the color, but was then pulled another direction, so another stylist came to apply my gloss. I could hear the stylists talking behind the for or the laundry room which was a few feet from where I was sitting and overheard them going back and fourth on who to hand me off to. Finally, another new stylist came to "shampoo" my hair. He started talking to me and I honestly got distracted, but soon he said we are all set let's head back and I realized. NO ONE SHAMPOOED MY HAIR AT ALL. I simple had 3 rinses. As he led me back to my stylist's chair he realized another client was there complaining about her style so he had me sitting in the waiting area for my stylist to finish with his other angry client. Finally after about 30 minutes of up and down seating arrangements and waiting, I was led back to my stylist's chair. He asked if I wanted a haircut and I told him no I really wanted to grow my hair out long for the summer. He was very persistent and convinced me I needed a trim so I said okay. I began working on my laptop and when I finally looked up I was in horror. He had cut about 4 inches off my hair in the front in terrible 1970's type layers- EW. He kept repeating over and over "oh I just took about an inch off... inch- inch and a half.... 2 inches but it really needed it". I sat in shock as he blowdried my hair. He gave me a great blowdry but insisted he add some curling iron waves in my hair. TO HIDE THE HAIR BUTCHERY HE JUST DID. Watching him try and use a curling iron was actually painful. He didn't know how to use it even a little. He gave me dents in my hair like I use to when I was in middle school trying to figure out how to use a curling iron. I left in shock and tears. I came in for a simple touch up and left with with a completely different botched look. You cannot market yourself as a luxury salon if you are have nothing but unprofessional and incompetent stylists behind the chair who can't even use a basic curling iron or shampoo my hair properly. The BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY. I left feeling ugly, ripped off, and immediately put my hair in a bun to hide what he did to my beautiful hair. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I booked for a full. got there and gorl said I didn't. which.. why wouldn't I? I went in with high hopes for a great color and style experience based on press and reviews but it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hair salon. The stylist seemed arrogant and incompetent and didn't even know basic hairstyling terms and techniques, which are used commonly in every salon I have ever been in. The whole atmosphere seemed pretentious. I actually overheard Jordan (not my stylist) mocking me, making snarky comments about the color I requested, which of course I found humiliating and outrageous To be fair, the color turned out fairly good and mostly what I wanted, however the blowout (which is extra) was horrible and didn't last 24 hours. (I have had my hair blown out weekly for years and know how to maintain the blowout unless is not done properly).My ends were still damp when I left which I didn't realize until it was too late. I have been lucky to have had my hair done in top salons all over the country who made me feel and look fabulous and also welcome. So let me be as objective as possible. I started coming here when my stylist JD came here from another salon. Then my husband started seeing JD. So between the two of us, we have literally spent thousands of dollars for services at DB. $450 on one visit alone for Keratin straightening treatment which straightened my hair for about 3 weeks. Not a good deal! Don't do it ladies. So after spending thousands of dollars at this establishment, I really I think I am entitled to post a review, don't you? Dennis does not think so. I totally agree with Shannon and Kelly, the vibe here has gotten weirder, colder, stranger, more off-putting with each visit. I kept going because of my stylist - but I did not, over time, feel comfortable at this salon. You walk in, and noone smiles at you. It is not welcoming, to the contrary it started feeling like Dennis thought he was doing me a favor by allowing me to visit his salon. It was really very weird. The shampoo ladies were very nice. I can't say anything too negative about Dennis Bartolomei salon, other than in the years I've been going here, the vibe has gotten progressively weirder and disconnected. The warmth that JD shows his clients is not matched by the rest of the DB staff - at least not on my visits. For that I have reduced my 5-star review to 2 stars. I'm kind of a tom-boy and am awkward in a salon setting, to be frank. I'm delighted to say that this salon was not off-putting in any way. You don't feel like you're walking into a posh nightclub with dance music blaring. It's more like someone's nicely furnished apartment. The staff is kind and gracious and even called me a week after my cut to see if I was happy with it. What? Does that really happen? Alison was my stylist and she was great. I have naturally curly hair which can be very difficult to work with. One wrong snip and you're in tears for months waiting and waiting for it to grow out. Luckily, Alison has a real gift for working with my type of hair. Tonight, stranger just approached me out of nowhere and said " Your hair is just beautiful!" Very nice to hear. I live in the far West Suburbs and Jordan came highly recommended. I can see why. He does do a great job - that is when you actually get him for all your services. He's great at blonde color and cuts and great with extensions and move ups. Here's where the problem is. I understand that sometimes he gets busy and he books out well in advance. I had someone else cut my hair last time (I won't name) and my hair looked like salad. I have long blonde hair and she put these odd sort of layers in it. (Jordan did my color - then I was handed off to her for extension move up and trim). I left with no bad blood. Now, I called them last week to confirm my appointment; they tell me my appointment is at 2PM and Jordan will be doing everything. I was happy. Today, I get a confirmation call from Kristie saying (and it was left on my voice mail) my appointment is for tomorrow starting at 1PM with Jordan following with someone else I've never heard of. I called back and spoke to Kristie and addressed some issues. First, I told her how I called last week and was told my appointment was at {2PM} and was told everything would be done by Jordan! She said okay, we can fit that in at 1.15PM and have everything done by Jordan. Great - I thought. Done! Next issue; the time before last Jordan forgot to cut my hair, but charged me for it. No big deal. We got to chatting and last time I was in (the other person I won't name who made salad out of my hair) cut my hair, but I feel I was still charged and I simply questioned it?? WOW!! DON'T! MY MISTAKE!! Jordan who I've been going to for over a year, who I tip at 30%, who I thought I knew better - calls me back in a huff. Asks me "What's the problem??" He goes on to say "We don't overcharge at our salon." He didn't let me get a word in edgewise and said "I guess I'll see you tomorrow, I have customers now," and then he hung up! I get we all have our bad days, but that was completely unprofessional and I don't care how great of a job he does on my hair. You can't be rude to your clients period! People have the right to question things. I called back and Dennis explained things to me. Turns out, I also didn't get a hair cut back in June and wasn't charged for it - so there's where my confusion was what with being charged for a haircut the time before last and not receiving one and then not being charged for one and having it be the same price. I simply needed an explanation since I started new services to my hair around that time. Jordan needs to tone down his attitude. Life's too short :) Needless to say, I'll be finding another Salon! I don't think I ever would have found this salon - and not only because I don't cheat on my stylist - it's tucked between Loyola and State Street like a hidden gem. Luckily for me, my stylist of over 20 years moved here and now it's my new salon home, too. Quiet, not pretentious, relaxing and lovely. Second floor location is NOT ADA friendly, but if your legs work you can easily get there. Make sure to make an appointment with Dianne Peterson (the best stylist in Chicago - seriously). She KNOWS hair, fashion, and how to cut to flatter both your face and hair type. A true artist but not a diva, she will definitely collaborate with you so that you leave delighted. I have NEVER had a bad cut from her in over 20 years. Enjoy the fabulous head massage when you're in the wash chair, trust your hair to Dianne, and leave looking like a million bucks. read more

There's only one reason why I come back to Mio. Simply put, she always remembers my last cut and I rarely have to explain to her what type of cut I want. I sit down, relax, and let Mio take care of the rest. One of my pet peeves is when other stylists uses a razor on my hair. Everytime I see a stylist pull one out, my heart cringes. I've recommended Mio to a bunch of my friends so far and everyone was super impressed by the cut. Jordan completely destroyed my hair. Like many others I was drawn in by the articles calling him the "best for blondes" in Chicago. This kid has no idea what he is doing, the Instagram fame has clearly gone to his head. I asked for some subtle face framing highlights to enhance my natural color and he made me so blonde he completely exploded my cuticle. I have been left with extremely dry and damaged hair that will take months to repair and the color looks HORRIBLE but now it's so fragile I'm scared to get more color to even try and fix it. You trust someone and pay them a lot of money, probably even more money if you're carrying a designer bag... learn from my mistake and stay far, far away! read more

I followed Daniel R from another salon, because he is amazing! If you are nervous about anything related to color, you can trust Daniel. He is so consistent and is internationally award winning for his color skills. The salon is small, personal, well-decorated, and elegant. There is no parking which is a downside if you don't live in the area. The ladies doing shampoo are very friendly. I would recommend this salon if you are looking for a great, upscale salon for cuts/color in downtown Chicago. read more

LOVE Daniel. He does an amazing job with my color, and cut, and just generally keeps my hair looking way better than nature/genetics originally intended. I always get compliments on my hair, and it has that "natural" look that only the best treatments can create. I wish I could give 100 stars, 5 is hardly enough. I live 5 hours away in Michigan and WOW is it worth the drive. He exceeded my expectations beyond words. I have had hair disaster after hair disaster as a naturally curly blonde. No one could ever get me the bright blonde I wanted, or they would damage and break my hair trying. I am in shock every time I pass a mirror at how perfect my hair is thanks to him! It's by far the blondest I've ever been, the perfect tone, perfect cut, and healthier than it's ever been. I'm usually not the one to write reviews about places, but I couldn't help myself on this one. I went to DB for the first time a few weeks ago and got highlights done by Jordan. Although he is very kind, I don't think he truly knows what he is doing when it comes to hair. I showed him a couple of photos for hair inspiration and he confidently agreed that he knew what to do. I had gotten my hair done in Dec. 2021 and just wanted a root touch-up as my hair had grown out more than usual within the span of a couple of months. He said that I should do a full highlight which I passively agreed to (not sure why I did but whatever). Anyways, I left the salon a little iffy on my hair as it was a lot blonder than I asked for and the roots were very dark. In other words, it truly didn't look like anything different had been done besides a few lighter pieces in the front. A couple of days later I realized that I hated my hair and needed to get it fixed. Jordan was very accommodating and allowed me to come back in to get it toned down. All in all, I had to drive 1 hr 30 mins back to Chicago to get my hair done, and unfortunately, I am not that much happier after getting it fixed. It still looks pretty much the same and the roots feel even darker. There is no blending of the roots which is what I asked for. Overall, I just don't think Jordan is a great listener when it comes to making sure his client's wishes are met and I think being a little inexperienced contributes to this. On top of all of this, the price to get highlights done was over $400--the most expensive I have EVER gotten by a landslide. I wouldn't recommend Dennis Bartolomei. Save your money and find a better hairstylist somewhere else. read more

I waited a few days before I posted this review to not let my emotions get in the way but I think it's only fair to speak how I feel about this. Do not get your hair styled by Jonah, (jayhooverhair on Instagram). I left the salon crying, extremely unhappy, and furious. I walked in with a beautiful butterscotch platinum hair color expecting to do a full head highlight and a cut. I made it clear I wanted to go blonder and touch up my roots. I also asked for my hair to be cut on a point and a few inches shorter. A few inches turned into 6 inches, my hair was darkened not lightened, and every request I had was unfulfilled. I don't even know how one can darken hair after highlights? I do not recommend this place strictly for this stylist. Other than that, the salon is clean, and staff is friendly. read more

I found my favorite stylist in the city again!!! I've been going to Mio for haircuts for the last 5 years and she disappeared without a trace from Vidal Sassoon some months ago. Needless to say I called around to some of the nearby salons and found her! I went to her for a haircut and was VERY impressed with the salon. The staff is very nice and accommodating and of course the hair cut was the best! The reason I go to Mio for hair cuts is that my hair looks great just after the cut and even while it grows. Like the previous reviewer, I switched to this salon when Donovan came here from Joseph Michael's. I can see why. This salon is exceptional. The decor is very modern, but functional and comfortable. It is evident that the owner thought through every detail of the salon's design. There is even a little room where you can change into your cape! Unlike Joseph Michael's, this place is quiet and relaxing, and contributes to a truly pampering experience. I can't speak for any of the other stylists, but Donovan is great. I've been going to him for 2 years. He just changed my hair from blonde to chocolate brown...a risky move, but I absolutely love it! Highly recommended. read more

i truly cannot rave enough about this place and my stylist, jordan heidenwith! the place is located in such a lovely part of chicago and the salon's decor totally matches that vibe. everyone is super friendly, not many times do you get to see the owner of the salon (dennis) walking around, talking with everyone and making people feel welcome. now, i used to go to a salon closer to my apartment in oak lawn, but sadly, they will never see my face (or hair) again after visiting this place! it has been a year since i made the switch to DB and i have never been happier. what jordan has done with my hair is beyond words. i know some people may think treating yourself to luxury hair is silly, but if you can do it, the self esteem boost is well worth every penny! initially, i was a dark brunette and jordan has very carefully and masterfully transformed me into a blonde all while keeping my hair healthy. he knows his stuff! of course i wanted to be bright blonde off the bat, but jordan respects the process and made sure to treat my hair with care. every time i leave, it is with a stunning head of hair. quality is putting it lightly. i highly recommend booking on a friday and then treating yourself to dinner and drinks in the city. you will feel amazing and you deserve it! read more
