We chose My Place due to its location and the fact that they allowed us to have our fur baby with us, the affordable price was very appealing too. I read several reviews and decided to go ahead and book it. I called the day of check in to ask about bringing our dog and the young lady who answered the phone was polite and gave us all the information to check in with him. Check in was easy and quick, signing a pet policy, receiving the information about the hotel and being greeted by another patron who wanted nothing more than to take our dog with him. Ha! Our room had a full size refrigerator, two burner stove, full size coffee pot and sink with garbage disposal. The room was clean and orderly, no foul odors or anything of the sorts. Due to the location, there really wasn't a view, but we were merely there to sleep & shower! We arrived back late in the evening and with full hands, the gentleman at the front desk buzzed us in the door so we didn't have to grab our key. There was a couple fighting in the hallway in the middle of night, but I can't dock a star for that, dramatic patrons are not their fault. All in all, good stay and if we need to stay in ANC again, I imagine we'll choose My Place.

This allowed us, as tourists, to sit in the 2-story forward car with the scenic panoramic windows. Along the entire route, each time, we had a hostess that incessantly repeated herself! While this may be her job, eventually passengers began to hear, 'whah whah whah whah whah whah (imagine Charlie Brown!) So tired of hearing 'chug chug chug or chuck your adult beverage' each time we stopped to load/unload people or 'the train doesn't leave people, people leave the train (to stretch their legs or take a smoke break!' Breakfast was provided for our first ride! Half of our car's passengers were directed to a separate dining car down stairs of our 2-story car. We were given a choice of 4 options for breakfast (as well as 4 different choices for lunch when lunch was served.) None of the choices received overwhelming applause from the passengers. It seems as though we all just muddled through in order to have SOMETHING in our bellies! Our first two rides were part of tours in which we were to see several types of wild animals. Between the two rides, we saw a plethora of beluga whales, several trumpet swans, dahl sheep, 2 osprey, several juvenile eagles, a few salmon, and a single moose. We've heard about the earthquake of 1964 and the pickled trees it left behind too many times to count! While the railroad is a unique way to get around, I feel once is definitely enough to experience the landscapes of inland Alaska. The mountains, rivers, and other terrain covered by the Alaskan railway really aren't different enough from one another to warrant additional trips. The train station & gift shop was more interesting than my successive excursions on the actual train. The cautionary safety speech followed by the 'ALL ABOARD' call was entertaining. The children's toys & books, postcards, ornaments, and other knick knacks/collectables in the gift shop drew large crowds before the train left the station, as well!

The trip was the perfect medicine to unplug me from an over-scheduled, over-programmed, and highly electronic career for a solid week. It pushed me mentally and physically, but never did I feel unsafe. I returned to work in a better frame of mind and with my whole body in a state of "a good kind of sore". Hats off to Don, and our guides (Sandra and Roz) who really made the stay wonderful. And, I never expected to be complimenting the camp food, but it was AWESOME!!! Sandra's breakfast burrito could be on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! I've travelled to all seven continents and have been on many adventure tours and treks over the years that have left me disappointed and wanting more, but this trip was definitely a trip to remember. As the name suggests, it is an extreme adventure trip that will push you physically and in some places mentally, especially since we had quite a bit of rain, and towards the end, some rain and sleet and a lot of wind, but if you're willing, it will be a trip you will not forget. Sandra (guide) and Roz (intern) picked me up from my hotel right on time along with the other members of the group before heading off to 3 days, 2 nights of sea kayaking. Through out our trip, we went white water rafting, hiking and ice climbing on the Matanuska Glacier, zip lining, and 2 days, 1 night of hiking along a mountain ridge line (I believe approximately 4600 ft at the peak) and back out through the valley. My group had 5 people, 1 guide (Sandra) and 1 intern (Roz) with group sizes maxing out at 6 people. As some of the other reviewers had mentioned, the guides were on the younger side (all relative of course, depending on your own age), however I didn't feel that they were inexperienced at all. Both Sandra and Roz had great energy and knowledge and never once did I feel that they didn't know what they were doing. They knew when and how to encourage each of us to get the most out of our adventure. The food definitely surprised me, as many nights we were in the wilderness, but you will certainly not feel like you're roughing it with the amount and quality of food. Without giving away any surprises, which there are at least one or two, the food is definitely top notch for this type of adventure trip. On our 6th day, we had an Alaskan style BBQ where Don, the owner came to join us. Leading up to the trip, Don replied to each and every one of my questions and concerns promptly, but for him as the owner to actually take the time to come out to meet our group and have dinner with us, chat and share stories showed us true Alaskan hospitality and definitely a sign of a great business owner. There are so many other highlights and people that made the trip great, from John Brown with Chugach Outdoor Center (white water rafting guide), Noah, who co lead the ice hike and ice climbing with Sandra, Ellie with her baked scones and cinnamon rolls, Mandy cooking the amazing Alaskan BBQ, and the Honey Bee Latte made by (forgot her name, but it was amazing). I would definitely recommend Exposure Alaska and their adventure tours for your trip to Alaska. It's a terrific way to experience the real Alaska and challenge yourself both physically and mentally and build friendships and experiences that you will carry with you for a lifetime. I will definitely be reaching out to Don and Exposure Alaska the next time I decide to head back to Alaska.

Davis was extremely prepared when we met him for our adventure. We had binoculars, ponchos, water, and snacks waiting for us when we got in the truck! As we headed out from Anchorage, he took us to several stunning photo spots and shared fascinating facts and history about all the areas we visited, as well as places we drove past. He was friendly and attentive but also gave us space to explore on our own. Even though it both snowed and then rained during our tour, Davis had many different destinations he was able to swap in place of some of our originally planned outdoor activities. The rain stopped just in time that he was still able to cook for us, and OH MY was it delicious!!
