I am thrilled to say I made it through Xxtreme Week 2015! The trip was more than I had hoped it would be and I would recommend Exposure Alaska and their great team. The trip was the perfect medicine to unplug me from an over-scheduled, over-programmed, and highly electronic career for a solid week. It pushed me mentally and physically, but never did I feel unsafe. I returned to work in a better frame of mind and with my whole body in a state of "a good kind of sore". Hats off to Don, and our guides (Sandra and Roz) who really made the stay wonderful. And, I never expected to be complimenting the camp food, but it was AWESOME!!! Sandra's breakfast burrito could be on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! I am already thinking about coming up with a new itinerary for 2016 and going back to the Exposure Alaska crew for another week of killer Alaska wild. read more

For our ten year wedding anniversary, my husband and I were torn between choosing Hawaii or Alaska. We are so glad we chose the latter and that we went with Exposure Alaska to make our experience the most memorable for us. We decided to book the Matanuska Getaway, which is only a 3 day trip because we figured we would want to go explore other parts of Alaska on our own. We had such a blast with Exposure, we wish we had booked a longer stay with them. The owner Don, was so helpful throughout the entire booking process, and recommended places to see and stay during our time after Exposure. The views of the glacier, the wild life, the planned tours and our amazing guides, all surpassed our expectations. They were awesome! Our guides were professional, knowledgable, friendly and we felt like close friends by the end of the trip. They were able to adjust our experience based on our skill and physical ability levels, which added more excitement to our trip. Our safety was paramount at all times and we had full confidence in their abilities to guide our adventure. Moreover, the food at the camp was great! We were expecting beans and weenies and other cliche camping food, but what we got was some great Alaskan cooking: Fresh Salmon, BBQ chicken, homemade breads and granola, among other things. In addition, while there was a lot of stuff to cover on our daily agenda, there was also a lot of time to relax and unwind. It was the only vacation where I didn't think about work, unless someone asked me about my job. Normally, when we go somewhere we still have home somewhere on the mind, but not here. Finally, this experience didn't seem touristy. After we finished our trip with Exposure, we spent a few days in other parts of Alaska, and the tours we did just weren't the same. read more

I just returned from the Xxtreme Week Adventure with Exposure Alaska and all I can say is WOW! I found this company through Mica Guides. I've travelled to all seven continents and have been on many adventure tours and treks over the years that have left me disappointed and wanting more, but this trip was definitely a trip to remember. As the name suggests, it is an extreme adventure trip that will push you physically and in some places mentally, especially since we had quite a bit of rain, and towards the end, some rain and sleet and a lot of wind, but if you're willing, it will be a trip you will not forget. Sandra (guide) and Roz (intern) picked me up from my hotel right on time along with the other members of the group before heading off to 3 days, 2 nights of sea kayaking. Through out our trip, we went white water rafting, hiking and ice climbing on the Matanuska Glacier, zip lining, and 2 days, 1 night of hiking along a mountain ridge line (I believe approximately 4600 ft at the peak) and back out through the valley. My group had 5 people, 1 guide (Sandra) and 1 intern (Roz) with group sizes maxing out at 6 people. As some of the other reviewers had mentioned, the guides were on the younger side (all relative of course, depending on your own age), however I didn't feel that they were inexperienced at all. Both Sandra and Roz had great energy and knowledge and never once did I feel that they didn't know what they were doing. They knew when and how to encourage each of us to get the most out of our adventure. The food definitely surprised me, as many nights we were in the wilderness, but you will certainly not feel like you're roughing it with the amount and quality of food. Without giving away any surprises, which there are at least one or two, the food is definitely top notch for this type of adventure trip. On our 6th day, we had an Alaskan style BBQ where Don, the owner came to join us. Leading up to the trip, Don replied to each and every one of my questions and concerns promptly, but for him as the owner to actually take the time to come out to meet our group and have dinner with us, chat and share stories showed us true Alaskan hospitality and definitely a sign of a great business owner. There are so many other highlights and people that made the trip great, from John Brown with Chugach Outdoor Center (white water rafting guide), Noah, who co lead the ice hike and ice climbing with Sandra, Ellie with her baked scones and cinnamon rolls, Mandy cooking the amazing Alaskan BBQ, and the Honey Bee Latte made by (forgot her name, but it was amazing). I would definitely recommend Exposure Alaska and their adventure tours for your trip to Alaska. It's a terrific way to experience the real Alaska and challenge yourself both physically and mentally and build friendships and experiences that you will carry with you for a lifetime. When I was planning this trip, I found it tough to find any reviews. That probably should have been a clue. There is a filtered-out review from October 2013 that I agree with. The activities are great, overall. However, for me, the trip was something of a disappointment. As the filtered review states, the guides are quite young/inexperienced and not particularly well-trained in terms of leading a group in what can be difficult circumstances. read more

Amazing Experience! Don't do a cruise. Some people see Alaska but with Exposure you really get to experience it. We did the double exposure tour and it was just challenging enough to push us but not overwhelming. The guides take care of everything so you still feel like you are on vacation and not trying to coordinate all the logistics of everything. They provide amazing food (they literally made blueberry walnut pancakes on a remote beach one morning). The experience at their base camp was amazing too (salmon dinners, hot tub, amazing views). I loved the kayaking and ice climbing. Who else can say they kayaked up to a glacier and went ice climbing on a glacier. For what you get to experience I think the pricing is great, I would not have done it any other way. read more

What an incredible way to experience Alaska! You get a little of everything and everyone involved was fantastic. Where to start? Day 1: Our guide, Sandra showed up promptly at our hotel to whisk us away to our adventure! Let me just say, ahead of time, I am astounded by the patience and knowledge Sandra maintained. I have a great respect for someone, as youthful, to control the different personalities as they are challenged by the elements. Kudos, Sandra! And Roz, the intern guide, was as sweet as can be. She had such positivity and kindness. Just what you need on this trip. Moving on, we started with a drive to Whittier to launch our sea kayaking part of the trip in the Prince William Sound which would last 3 days and 2 nights. The views seen are phenomenal! There are so many gorgeous waterfalls and cliff sides. We camped out the first night in an area that had a lovely trail full of wild blueberries and salmon berries. Yum! The second night we camped in a different area, equally as lovely. We saw gorgeous glaciers and explored one a bit closer. This ended our sea kayaking portion and we were taken by taxi boat and headed to Hope where the sun was shining and there was a pub! Winning! We watched some folks fishing for salmon in a creek nearby and checked out the local shops. The following day we had an exciting day of white water rafting on 6 Mile Creek for 3 canyons. The guide, John Brown was excellent! He was funny, which was needed as I got nervous and I ended up outside the raft! Luckily we had dry suits because the water was cold. User error caused mine to leak but was so minimal I still could venture on. And I get cold stupid fast (CA girl)! What an experience! After rafting we headed to MICA grounds to camp out which was great because the way the sun semi-set behind the mountain was gorgeous! The next day we were off after a delicious breakfast to hike and climb Matanuska Glacier with Sandra and Noah. Crampons on! What striking views of this ancient ice! We climbed Elephant Wall and you feel solid after completing these climbs. I am pretty sure I was walking flexed after the overhang climb (stroked my ego) :)! Noah was great! He is knowledgeable and friendly, especially while whistling The Shins while we prep to climb. We then headed back to MICA for some zip lining with Katie. There are beautiful views of the Matanuska River. So fun! The last two days are what tested me. We hiked a ridgeline in Chugach State Park. Steep climbs but worth every grunt and break to stretch you calves. This CA girl struggled with the wind, rain, sleet, and cold but I was determined because the reward was going to be great! Man-O-Man, was I right! We had rainbows, insane 360 degree canyon, tundra, and mountain views. Campsite at Symphony Lake was otherworldly. No one else out there, no noise pollution, no trash, just us and the beauty of nature. This was an astounding trip. Just... Wow. Some other amazing things to note are the food and team. I don't want to give away the menu so the next adventurers can be pleasantly surprised. And you will be! I was impressed by what Sandra was able to cook out there! Double YUM! The breakfast and dinner were not repeated and each were different and delicious each time! Ellie is a guide and baker for MICA. Her treats are a must try. There was an Alaskan style BBQ and Mandy did an exceptional job preparing the feast. I gorged myself. Don, the owner, took the time to come out and meet with us and I am glad he did. It was a pleasure to meet the man behind the adventure and fabulous team. It took a solid team to make all of this possible.
