This is your best bet for skiing close to Anchorage, with a few caveats. 1. This is a non-groomed hill, so the conditions are solely dependent on the weather. Track the resort's website for mountain conditions. 2. The only spot really worth skiing (powder-wise) is the chute that runs on the other side of chair 2. Access it by taking the t-bar to the top and cutting left for a half mile or so, then descending on the other side of lift two. Halfway into the day, chair two opens up and you can come straight down the chute. 3. The hill is run by ski club volunteers and is only open on weekends. It has a fun, adventurous, minimalistic feel. Definitely not a "resort", so don't expect that. Consider it an adventure, thank the friendly volunteers, and be happy to have skiing available 10-min from town. 4. Be careful where you ski in low-powder conditions, or risk ruining the structure on your ski bases. Lots of little stones and bare patches, so I recommend skiing in the location listed above in point 2. 4. The food is a little overpriced and pretty bad. Like, "I wish I had a food truck instead", bad. Eh, consider it like a camping trip, or bring a brown bag. Again, this place is pretty minimalistic, so take it for what it is. Overall, this place is awesome for being so close to Anchorage. Many amazing Saturdays at this place, and the cost is very affordable.

Here for a wedding in July so no ski review. It was my nephews wedding and we were honored to be in the company of some Of our USA men and women Olympic Cross Country ski team including the bride. So, the pictures are of the scenery and wedding that were taken at the ski hill resort.

I'm a big fan of their tubing park when the snow hits. $16 per adult for 1.5 hour. It's so much fun! I was here last year and this year again. It has new improved lanes!! They limit how many people get registered so it's not so crowded. It was a cold day but we end up spending the entire time rather than going home early after a few rides. I recommend that you try their tube park.

The most under rated place to ski I have ever been to. Cheap, small lines, and steep terrain, it is also the most chill place to ski, where you can paraglide with skis. The only ski resort I have ever been to that isn't tourist and beginner centered. Their 3 lifts are cool old lifts that are still running. The lodge and food are really nice and have really good prices and quality. (Totally reccomend their pretzel). Staff is awesome and most of them are volunteers. scenic in both summer and winter, it's an amazing place to enjoy the great Alaskan outdoors!

Endless peaks in the Arctic Valley.

The Arctic Valley I believe has one of the most priceless 360 views of the Anchorage area, the Valley, and the South Fork all the way to Symphony Lake. Following the Arctic Valley Road to the end leads you to the Arctic Valley Ski Area. In the winter take some time to check out their slopes. Anchorage Ski Club members, who run the lodge, are able to get a discount for approx. $10 cheaper. They also offer military and student discounts. Very reasonable prices, I believe, for a fun day of fun. Summer time is my favorite here. Not only do blueberries line the hills, but the easy-moderate hike up Rendezvous Peak or Mount Gordon Lyon are most promising atop. The area is well maintained by ASC, help them out by volunteering your time.

This ski area is a very challenging one coming from a year old alpine skier. I can ski down from the top of Alyeska but can't ski from the Chair 2 of Artic Valley. It's treacherous with bald areas (saw stone sticking out of the snow) and deep snow (up to 3 feet) that is hard to judge while skiing down the steep slope at a fast speed. This is back country skiing that requires advanced intermediate or expert skills. Lift tickets cost $40 per adult. Lesser for seniors. Tubing was fun! They have three sessions which were an hour and a half long per session and costed $15 per ticket. Be sure to arrive at the time a session starts to get the right tube size. I actually had to use a smaller tube because we came late and had two children's tubes left. It worked but you go faster and it was a little scarier. That was my first time tubing and I loved it.
