Let that be a warning to hard partyers who decide to drink and play with their campfire. There are plenty of good camp sites, but only one great one and I'm not telling which one it is. Favorite time to come is when it's late fall, very few people, and the stars come out late at night; It's hard to tell that you are only 30 miles from Anchorage when the light pollution does not interfere with star gazing. There are a lot of great features to Eklutna that make coming here a real treat. Would come again.

Then I…read morerealized it was listed simply as "Russian Jack Springs", which makes it sound like a quaint Canadian hot springs in the mountains...(I've since submitted an edit, it should show up with "park" in the title now) It's not that. It is a shockingly great park. It's in an area of town where you wouldn't expect to find a park, and it's quite massive. It's got green houses you can tour, a hill for sledding, trails for hiking/running, and even a GOLF COURSE and CLUBHOUSE. Is it a bougie golf course and clubhouse? Of course not. But it's cheap and solid. Golf for the people! I got some BBQ from Smokehouse which is less than a mile away, ate in the park, then went for a short walk on the trails to burn off that brisket, and I was still back to work in time. Don't take Anchorage living for granted! I hope to come back in the winter to get on that sledding hill!

And even though there is a fresh powder, the tracks are still visible and ready to be skied. I can only speak on the cross country ski trails here, but I've been super impressed with them. There is also a sledding hill, skate skiing area and a lodge style building that I've never seen open. I understand there are also community greenhouses on the property that you can check out. After three trips here and over two hours spent, I have yet to see the entire park. So much to explore, great for beginners, and well lit. For being so close to a major road, I'm amazed at how quiet and serene this place is. There's a private parking lot, off Lidia Selkregg Lane. I've never had a problem finding a spot. I think parking is free because I didn't see any fee stations.

We did the add on glacier cruise, could have booked it cheaper on our own. Again. Just do these things on your own. Trip started in Anchorage, drove us to the wildlife conservation center. We had about an hour there, so basically only time to watch the bears. We never even looked at the other animals just due to lack of time. Then we drove to the Portage Glacier Lodge for lunch that you pay for yourself, on our way we stopped at two spots to take pics, again places you could just stop at. Food was insanely overpriced. Then to the cruise, the cruise itself is an hour long and seeing the glacier is cool, but the ship and crew were the most rinky dink operation I've ever seen. 2) our tour guide locked the keys to the van inside the van. She did not even call to get help until over an hour after discovering the keys were locked inside. We had to wait at the lodge for almost 2 hours before someone came to bring her the spare keys. During this time no one communicated with us regarding a plan and we were just sitting there waiting. Tour guide "Captain C" was nowhere to be found. She then drove us quite erratically back to Anchorage, I presume out of stress. The pics she took aren't great, not like the ones on other reviews and are mostly blurry. 3) Book with a better group. This was a waste of money.

Best tour we could have hoped for on our first day in Alaska! (did the Wilderness, Wildlife,…read moreGlacier Experience from Anchorage tour) First of all, Grace, our tour guide, was beyond amazing. Not only was she very knowledgeable, pleasant, a good driver, but she also treated us all amazing: she remembered all our names, took photos of each of us on our phones with the views in the background, did a little trivia game at the end of the tour, and took wilderness photos on her camera and shared them with us within 2 hours from the end of tour. And they were great! Secondly, the stops were really fun. We spotted a moose mom with her baby in the wild, saw a few bald eagles, some sheep too. We also had a tasty lunch at Portage Glacier Lodge on one of the stops. Thirdly, the rainy weather didn't affect our experience as all because of Grace's non ending good mood & cool headed nature. Even though the glacier cruise at the end got canceled due to awfully strong winds, we did other stops and had fun. Be flexible and have fun! (the last photos of the animals up close are by Grace, all credits to her!)

I booked the day before, the morning of the owner texted me to confirm that I would be picked up at my Airbnb, Billy texted me notifying me when he was on his way. He was kind, responsive, full of information, considerate, and willing to tailor the speed and details to the needs of the group. He truly made this trip enjoyable. Van ride to the glacier is about 100 miles, we stopped at a gas station about half way. We stopped twice for two photo opportunities, and then made our way to the glacier gift shop to sign waivers. Then drove down to the launch point of the trek. There are ample bathrooms down there. Billy did not accompany us on the glacier but that was okay, our guide at the glacier was super sweet and knowledgeable. I felt more than safe! You walk across a floating bridge to get your microspikes and then we spent about 2-2.5 hours trekking the glacier. You do spend most of the hike on the rocky surface, but we did a pretty steep climb on the blue ice to get to the top of our area, we drank glacier water (amazing) and then saw the base of the glacier which was stunning. Post trek we returned to the tent and met up with Billy, he had snacks waiting for us and then drove us up to the lodge for lunch. After lunch we made the drive back, and again Billy was willing to accommodate different drop off points.

Hotel pickup was super helpful since we didn't rent a vehicle. Lori made a bathroom/coffee stop 45 minutes into the drive. We stopped at a local coffee shop which was so thoughtful instead of stopping at your typical gas station. Afterwards we arrived at our destination for the dog sled tour. We went during the winter and it gets very cold when you are moving on the sled! We are from Arizona so we didn't have snow boots or other items on hand. Luckily snow shoes, heavy gloves, beanies, etc were provided for us to change into so that we stayed nice and warm on the sled. We were paired up and got the chance to sit down and ride in the front of the sled which was perfect for taking videos and pictures. And the other person had the chance to stand up at the back of the sled. We warmed up with a delicious lunch at a nearby lodge and made our way back to Anchorage. Overall, we had such a great day thanks to Lori and the dog mushers. It was truly a one of a kind experience! Highly recommend 907 Tours.

I will admit, they did crush my dreams of snowmobiling on a glacier and seeing the Northern Lights because it was too late in the season. But hey, at least I knew. They provide you with awesome recommendations to get you going whether it be attractions, places to eat or things to do. The log cabin in front is more of a welcome center and has some history and a greeter. The larger building in the back is more of where the magic happens. That is where you will find all the attraction brochures and the information of what is operating during that time of year. Both buildings are very clean and organized and they are strategically located by quite a few souvenir shops. There is metered street parking on the street in front of and adjacent to the Center. It was very helpful and got me a good itinerary put together. Like I said, this is a must stop when you are planning things to do during your vacation in anchorage.
