But this park is also plagued with chronic drug and alcohol addicted folks who trash public areas, including human waste. This park has insufficient parking- which is split into two separate locations. One is on the west side and the other on the north east side. The NE parking lot is where you dealers and users can typically be found. Families and children are more typically found in the west parking lot. It's common to see fish and moose along in this park on this section of Chester Creek Trail. There's a cute little playground here as well on the west side. There are some very pretty bridges in this section of the trail also. This is also one of the few locations where the creek is low enough for people to safely wade during the summer. The salmon viewing pier was condemned a few years ago and it doesn't seem like the city had any plans to fix it since it was a hangout for using. There are many varieties of plants, flowers, berries and birds found here, which make it a lovely greenspace for people and animals alike.

There is also a large dog park and there are various trails. There are spots to grill and picnic, and a shallow area of the creek in which people both small and large can play. This park is conveniently connected to the trail system which connects it to several other parks and bodies of water. This has become a popular location for birthday parties and is unofficial dog park since the official dog park down the street has become unsafe due to druggie. This park is sunnier and more exposed and less popular with people causing problems.

Wide open field that is always maintained. The trail to the views has gotten wider. The back field is open enough for multiple visitors to be there are once, comfortably. I've had a picnic with my toddler here, while couples walked the perimeter, and others walked their dogs. There are 2 trails that will take you down to the mudflats. So far, I've visited on sunny mornings/high noons. I can't wait to experience a few sunsets here.

While I was there, a well dressed and groomed middle aged woman ran through making "donkey ears" at me and yelling obscenities for no reason. I found it amusing, but this was witnessed by a dad out with his 8 yo or so daughter. They should not have had to witness that. Honestly I think there must be better places to view Cook Inlet up close and personal.

A few sitting areas are sprinkled throughout. As someone who avoids small talk and parent interactions, I try to show up at the crack of dawn. There will still be folks here, but at least you aren't elbow to elbow. It's difficult to bring my kids to these swimming areas without the intention of swimming. I prefer for my kids to swim at Little Campbell Lake (near Kincaid Park), instead.

Elderberry Park got a recent makeover!…read more I've been trying to get my kiddos here all summer, but of course, with a view like this, the playground stays full. We were recently able to sneak in, early afternoon on a partly cloudy day. Score! Also only had my youngest in tow, score! She got to enjoy everything fully --no rush. Yay! There are benches, a more common swing set, another swing that is the highlight of this playground, a cool slide, climbing structure, pull-up climber and I believe a porta-potty, also. Highly recommend!
