People fishing and biking along the lake

This park is one that stands out in my memories as a kid back in the 80's. I lived in the Queen Victoria neighborhood behind this park right next to La Mex from 1985-1988. The park is located off of 76th and King St. and is a popular place for biking, walking the dogs, rowboats, kayaking, and fishing. The parking lot is usually full during the summer time, but it has never been difficult for me to get a decent spot. There are plenty of narrow dirt trails that circle the entire lake so that anyone can choose which part of the lake they can have a picnic or BBQ. The hills are mostly grass on one side of the lake which is perfect for laying in the sun or reading a book while providing a perfect aerial view of the water and trees. A lot of picnic tables are also placed next to the water as well as a small dock for kayaks or small rowboats. When I came by to eat lunch here, there were plenty of people playing fetch with their dogs as they jump in the water to retrieve a stick or a ball. There is also a separate grassy field away from the lake down the bike trail with a picnic area along C St. and a great place to play Frisbee. Some people fish here for trout either in the lake or the adjoining stream. The best time to come down here to catch fish is when it's raining outside. The chances of catching fish here increase as the rain tends to attract the fish to the surface which was also a similar case with Ship Creek and salmon fishing. Winter is also a good time to come down here as well. The hill on the far end of the lake provides the perfect place for sledding and it isn't too steep. The slight incline from the top of the hill to the bike trail makes for a very long and fun ride. Years ago, a lot of the kids from my old neighborhood and I would get together every weekend during winter to ride this hill. This is definitely recommended for anyone looking for a safe place to sled away from the roads. It's great to see this park still around years later and definitely hasn't changed one bit since my time here back in the 80's.

I love the beaver dam and Taku Lake. I always get kick out of watching the beaver family and muskrats that live here. This park is also ideal for sunning because of the orientation of the bank to the sun. Taku is one of my haunts during the summer. It also is a good starting point for access to the Campbell Creek bike trails.

Great park to take your dog out for a walk. Longboarding is fun to cruise there too & there's a mini skate park.

If you like quirky parks with loud jets flying over, this is the perfect place! I stumbled upon it…read morewhile exploring around Anchorage, and it was such a fun spot to spend some time on a beautiful sunny day. There's a large parking lot, complete with a couple of outhouses and (at least on the day I visited) a hot dog vendor, too. The parking lot sits well above the beach area, where I walked around and did plenty of people-watching before heading out to the point and the very colorfully painted structure that (maybe?) I think has something to do either with airplane or sea navigation. Surrounding the point were zillions of painted rocks. It was local art gone wild and I loved it! At regular intervals, giant jets flew over upon takeoff from the airport (which is mere yards away). If you don't like loud jets, I would not recommend this beach. But if you do, well, you've come to the right place!

A dead moose carcass…read more Graffiti, mostly colorful. Didn't close enough to see if it was also tasteful. Slippery clay and mud - lots of moments where I thought I might slip and fall to the ground. Definitely something to watch for. Small granulated particles sliding down the sandy hill. Crazy to see erosion in action. Just a few of the many exciting things along this walking area. Beautiful breeze off the inlet. Lots of great views of downtown Anchorage. Lots of parking available and a wonderful place to get to see a brilliant sunset. Bring a chair and a cooler!
