Wanting to stretch my legs, I had decided to make an after dinner stop at Potter Marsh. Having passed it earlier in the day, I had seen a large bull moose from the road, as he enjoyed grazing in the tall grasses. Later on, when I actually had time to stop, no moose sightings. However, the walk along the well maintained boardwalk offered epic views and a peaceful, quiet evening walk. Lots of locals out enjoying the first sunny day, all week. Nicely done placards with info and complimentary spotting scopes to see any visiting bird life. It's a quick but worthy stop in Anchorage if you are looking for a simple outdoor activity.

Nice walking trails, a bit creepy when moose are about. In the 20 plus years I have lived in this area, I have seen the trails become wider and more wore torn. Yet, the duck pond is very photogenic, the geese flying overhead are beautiful, and the bird life with the loons calling at night...well. Too bad I hate my condo. But the beauty of this place to look out upon is irreplaceable.

Three words: bread and poop…read more This place is kind of rough, and kind of ugly. There is so much bread-feeding here that the grass has been completely scrubbed down to dirt from all the foot traffic in one concentrated area. There is goose poop everywhere. There are shady characters doing weird stuff in their vehicles. If you want to see birds, you're better off heading west (towards the water) on the trail towards the lagoon proper. Much better facilities, less shady characters.

There is a small lake here that you can see from the road. What I liked about this particular area is how many different ways you can split... This trail takes you to: Lanie Fischer (Not sure of spelling) Westchester Lagoon Coastal Trail and many more...i just haven't explored enough.... Great run very flat and a few tunnels to go through... I would recommend for a nice long walk or jog!

All of my kids have played here and enjoyed the offerings. Surprisingly, there isn't a single swing at this park FYI. But still tons to do, to keep the kids entertained. There is a man-made pond front and center. Lots of birds + bird poop. Lots of walking/biking trails here. Lots of space to lay out. Tons of space to hold events here. I attended some of the best music festivals/concerts with mountain backdrop here; but due to disagreements with the city and the unhoused population, the space isn't utilized for these purposes anymore. Highly recommend.

Parking is ample. I love how tucked away it is, probably why I haven't visited this place often. As water lovers, we appreciate how the swings face the water. It would be nice if there was also some type of play structure but maybe that would only increase the chances of folks getting into the water when they're not supposed to.

However you can have a picnic as there are benches and I noticed some bbq pitts. Dogs can run around just be sure they don't run into the water. They have a restroom building but I'm not sure how operational it is. There's a play area for the kids so it's somewhat kid friendly. Small parking area, but it never seems full...I wonder why if you can't get into the water. Makes the park kind of boring. If you want to hit a beach, I'm sure there are other places to go but I'm not sure where. I hear the Anchorage area is muddy, so you might want to fly down to Mexico, SoCal or South Florida for beach time.

The Campbell Tract is tract of (park) land controlled by the Bureau of Land Management adjacent to…read morethe Far North Bicentennial Park. Most people visit Campbell Tract to see the "technically" active 1 mile airstrip (kept operational for emergencies). As you weave in and out of the 12 miles of trails controlled by BLM, it's virtually impossible to distinguish where one park ends and the next begins unless you're really good at reading maps. It's a spaghetti of trails back there! In August and September this stretch of birch forest is especially beautiful with fall colors. High bush cranberries and mini dogwoods changing color, and lots of wild berries, mushrooms and other fungi provide a rainbow colors in all shapes and sizes. Be aware that black and brown bears frequent this area. One of my pet peeves in this area are rude hikers. Lots of off leash dogs and people who don't clean up after them. Also, hikers using the sled dog trails that explicitly designated as for them alone. There are gazillions of trails back here, but people always want what they can't have.... Walk em, run em, cross country ski on em, and if you really wanted to, you could get your sled dogs ready on these trails. This is another one of those areas where you need to be wildlife aware. There aren't too many "wow" or "super cool" spots to check out here. But if you are looking for a 'walk in the park' to get away, this could be your spot.
