Elderberry Park got a recent makeover!…read more I've been trying to get my kiddos here all summer, but of course, with a view like this, the playground stays full. We were recently able to sneak in, early afternoon on a partly cloudy day. Score! Also only had my youngest in tow, score! She got to enjoy everything fully --no rush. Yay! There are benches, a more common swing set, another swing that is the highlight of this playground, a cool slide, climbing structure, pull-up climber and I believe a porta-potty, also. Highly recommend!

The city of ANCHORAGE continues to make.excuses for why services continue to retract, but we all know why. Politicians lining their pockets with tax monies instead of doing what they were hired to do. The only good thing about this location is it is attached to the pedestrian trail system.

I remember swimming in it and came outa the water and it was the first time I've seen leaches stuck to my legs. Of course my grandparents thought this was so funny back then. When my grandma was still alive I asked her to take me back to this lake to reminisce the good times we had when I was young. I had great memories from this lake.

Little Campbell Lake (aka Beer Can Lake - a truly undeserved moniker) is a sweet little lake trail tucked away at the entry of Kincaid park. It has it's own parking lot and is several miles away from the Chalet and soccer fields. It's really in it's own world. It has a loop trail around that is shy of a mile. There are several trails that connect at this location at or near the parking lot. The Little Campbell is also a stocked Lake, so although it's small, its a popular fishing location. And I frequently note kids and dogs swimming here. Frankly, the water looks too... healthy with plant matter (slimy!) for swimming, but that's just me. This is an awesome location for scouting mushrooms and berries, I always find awesome stuff in this area. Rarely do find the parking lot full. As with most parks in Anchorage, the one thing that irritates me is unleashed dogs and crap that is left behind. Nothing like dog crap to ruin our pristine landscape. But other than that, this is a very accessible, but fairly unspoiled location for a quick get away.

It also (I almost hate to tell this secret) has two of the nicest outdoor tennis courts in town. I've been playing tennis here for years and they were always pretty quiet but with the pandemic this summer they were being used all the time. A great space to spend some time visiting with friends and getting some fresh air. There are baseball fields down the hill and a great bike path!

You'll likely only find residents of the Bootlegger's Cove neighborhood hanging out here. It's smaller than the Elderberry, but much, much less crowded. There are 5 parking spaces. Unlike Elderberry, it's unfortunately not connected to the Coastal Trail (http://www.yelp.com/biz/tony-knowles-coastal-trail-anchorage), Why would you go here? If you want to picnic, near downtown, AWAY FROM THE RIFF-RAFF. There are also whales for the kids to crawl all over. In the summer you can gawk at tourists coming into Anchorage on the trains, as they gawk at Alaska.

Since it was such a beautiful sunny day out, I decided to head down to the park to study in the…read moreshade and get some fresh air after my disappointing experience at Starbucks yesterday. Nulbay Park is tucked away in a residential neighborhood at the very end of the downtown area not far from Elderberry Park. This park is one of the smallest ones in Anchorage, but it is also very quiet and clean and there are none of the questionable loiterers that hang out en masse at Town Square Park a few blocks away. This is a good place to lay out a blanket on the grass and enjoy the sunshine, play Frisbee or throw a ball with your dog, or have an enjoyable picnic with friends or family away from the crowds of the larger parks. I found a cozy spot in the shade of a large tree to study while enjoying the weather at the same time. There is also a phenomenal view of Cook Inlet and the Sleeping Lady at the edge of the park. The trains of AK Railroad will come by every now and then, some filled with tourists on the way to Seward and others hauling gravel, rocks, or cargo as they're passing by. The engineer at the front of the train won't hesitate to blow the train horn if there happens to be kids playing in the park. A great place to spend the afternoon and a pleasant change of pace from heading down to a noisy coffee shop.

It seats 4 and is super fun to play on for little and big people alike. I like this park because it also is connected to the Chester Creek Trail and the Goose Creek spur. It also has a play ground, trees and open space in equal measure, adequate parking, a baseball field, and a bball court that doubles as an ice hockey rink in winter. SLICK Y'ALL!!!

Aside from the ice rink/basket ball court and small amount of playground equipment, there isn't…read moremuch incentive to go out of your way for this one. It does, however, serve well enough as another one of Anchorage's little neighborhood parks, tucked back into the Airport Heights residential area. For those that live in the area, it's a fairly quick stroll to/from Fire Island Bakery's nearby shop or fast access to the Lanie Fleischer Chester Creek trail. If you're on a long bike ride with the kids, this isn't a bad rest point though you might just consider Goose Lake park which is just over the nearby bridge (crossing Northern Lights). There's also a baseball field next to the hockey rink but not much else. Anchorage has quite a high number of these little parks hidden away in its neighborhoods. This isn't the best of them but it'll do for a sunny afternoon stop.
