This event facility is recently built located on Arctic Road…read more I've attended a community event, a private event, and concerts here. It is one of few Anchorage event facilities available to rent, that can hold over 150 people. Parking is ample and the building is secluded enough from neighboring homes. The facility includes a coffee shop/cafe area that you can choose to be open during your event. The facility kitchen is large and open. You have the ability to choose what spaces you want to rent, with the largest space being the gym. If your event has alcohol you will be required to rent the facility as a whole. I like that all rental information to include costs, deposits, etc is laid out clearly online. You will not need to contact anyone directly until you are ready. I believe they even have bouncy houses available to rent. Like most facilities, they have staff there watching. Sometimes they're cool, sometimes they're annoyingly saying the music is too loud when we in the crowd, can barely hear it. Gotta take the good with with the bad ya know?!

Sort of like the Spenard Rec Center, but smaller and newer. Coffee shop staff is super nice, decent/regular prices. If your kid is going to a basketball program (like mine is), make sure you sign them in. You have to- for liability purposes. We didn't for basketball games, but for practice yes. They host Halloween events (and possibly other holiday events) that I've seen too, just haven't been able to go to them. Bathrooms and pretty much everywhere in general is clean and staff is nice.

This park is located in Anchorage's Mountainview Neighborhood, just outside of downtown. The park…read morewas originally developed as military housing in the 1940's. The park as you see it today was developed in the 1980s. It spans 66 acres and is leased from the Joint Base Elemendorf-Richardson by the municipality of Anchorage. It is a decent park, but pales slightly in comparison to the park that is located right next to it. It has a couple of parking areas, with ample parking. But beware, one of the parking areas near the basketball court has some huge pot holes. The park also has a 9-hole disc golf course that is pretty decent. You will find a good multi-use field here that has football uprights and can be used for a variety of activities including soccer, football, playing catch, ultimate frisbee, or flying a kite. The little league baseball field there is trashed. There is a bunch of trash in the dugout and the bleachers are busted and turned upside down. However, it could still be used in a pinch. The full basketball court is suffering from the same neglect. The court itself is in decent shape, but the rims are missing nets. You will be chasing the ball all day if you play on that court. You will find a bunch of picnic tables scattered among the park's green space and a decent partially paved/partially natural trail. There is rumored to be a community garden, but I did not see it. That may be due to me visiting in very early Spring. Now let's talk about what the park does not have. It does not have playground equipment, nor does it have a restroom facility. This park is ok and does have a few things its neighboring park does not have such as a multi-use field or disc golf. That park has some features that this one does not have like a playground area and picnic shelters. So, ultimately, they are a good compliment to each other. This park does need some attention and I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was in the shape that it was in due to being off season.

But this park is also plagued with chronic drug and alcohol addicted folks who trash public areas, including human waste. This park has insufficient parking- which is split into two separate locations. One is on the west side and the other on the north east side. The NE parking lot is where you dealers and users can typically be found. Families and children are more typically found in the west parking lot. It's common to see fish and moose along in this park on this section of Chester Creek Trail. There's a cute little playground here as well on the west side. There are some very pretty bridges in this section of the trail also. This is also one of the few locations where the creek is low enough for people to safely wade during the summer. The salmon viewing pier was condemned a few years ago and it doesn't seem like the city had any plans to fix it since it was a hangout for using. There are many varieties of plants, flowers, berries and birds found here, which make it a lovely greenspace for people and animals alike.

There is also a large dog park and there are various trails. There are spots to grill and picnic, and a shallow area of the creek in which people both small and large can play. There are birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and beautiful vegetation surrounding you right in the heart of the city. My two drawbacks - this is a pretty popular spot for people with kids, so don't expect it to be quiet unless you hit it on off-hours; and when packed, parking can be a bit much. *Don't forget to bring your inflatable raft so you can float down the creek to Peanut Farm when you leave* *Bring cash for the ice cream truck*
