It was recommended to us by 2 different Scots (Our tour guide in Skye and our hotelier in Glasgow), so it has quite a lot of credential from all over. We stopped in for our nightly-during-vacation dram on our first of 2 nights in Glasgow. The place was packed...You order at the bar and try to find somewhere to sit when they serve you. (We found a spot upstairs. Our bartender was quite knowledgeable in the extensive collection and guided us to a good choice. (Our main direction in every bar was to give us something we'd have a hard time finding back in the States.) That got us to a Duich Moss dram...heavily peated (just the way I like it) from Islay...a great choice for one of our last whiskeys in Scotland. If you like Scotch Whiskey, you can certainly get it any and everywhere in Scotland...but this place is a true Scotch lovers' destination...the selection is unrivaled, and you'll find yourself in a great, historic atmosphere to enjoy it. Don't skip this place.

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

We enjoyed all the food we ordered, though the haggis, neeps, and mash tatties and the ox cheek with pea and basil risotto were our favorites! The risotto had one of those flavor profiles that will likely inspire me when I'm home, trying hopelessly to recreate it. If you order the haggis, don't skip the whiskey cream! It's delicious and pairs very nicely with the haggis, neeps, and tatties. The burger was also delicious. The presentation and flavor profiles of each dish were equally matched, so let the pictures entice you!

Taking its name from a Scottish word that means "to roam or wander about without a specific…read moredestination" Stravaigin serves a unique menu of globally inspired food and Scottish classics, including what many consider to be Glasgow's best haggis. Michelin recommended but neither starred nor bib gourmand, over twenty years of experience informing a Cafe, Bar and Cellar where locals gather amidst heavily wooded décor, lunch on Monday offers quiet respite from the streets with light music overhead. Friendly but fairly aloof in terms of service, the young waitress spending much of this slow service flirting with a bartender, Stravaigin's menu offers a good bit of customization whether one opts to partake a just a Burger, in courses or using small-plates as a sort of Tapas. Not neglecting Whisky across a Cocktail list, Elevenses a smoky Citrus masterpiece, the "wee" portion of Haggis is perfect for one with four-bites of liberally spiced Offal alongside equal size quenelles of Potatoes and Rutabaga. Spanning south for fried Bitterballen, straight out of Germany with smoked Ham, Fish Fritters get a bit muddled by the aggressive heat and creamy dressing while Carrots are unevenly cooked but pleasant in a mix of Nuts, Beets and unnecessary Tofu. Uncertain why any menu would offer both Flan and Creme Caramel for Dessert, though locals seem to prefer Cheese regardless, an Italian riff in the former was small and smooth but frankly unmemorable in either a negative or positive way.

And I have to say it was love at 1st bite! Since the 1st meal, I went back quite a few times, each time service was great and friendly, Garvie just has a nice cozy feel to it. The 1st time I ordered a pint of beer and the Roast Breast of Chicken wrapped in Parma ham on top of truffle mashed potato with sautéed gem lettuce with peas and pancetta and peppercorn sauce, oh man was this dish perfection, and the truffle mashed potato was divine! Another time at the Garvie again, I ordered a flat white and carrot cake, oh sweet bliss, this was a darker carrot cake then ones I have had before and the frosting was not the cream cheese type nor a buttercream type either, it just was perfectly sweet and complemented the cake perfectly. Ever since my 1st visit I had been craving the truffle mashed potatoes and knew I had to go back one more time before I left, so my last meal at the Garvie was the Garvie & Co Club, it had chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and topped with a fried egg came with a salad and I added a side of the truffle mashed potatoes, this sandwich was perfect, loved the fried egg on it, so good, the truffle mashed potatoes were still just as good at the 1st time. If you in the area, give the Garvie a try, I bet you won't be disappointed.

We were in for lunch and the best seats at the window were bathed in sunshine which was amazing. I'd visited these premises before when it was Velvet Elvis/Criterion and like how they've knocked through the wall to make it a larger space. The decor is great - modern, exposed brick, classy but still with a bit of personality. And they kept the "Keep Partick Weird" wall which is excellent. I got three small dishes for lunch: asparagus with hollandaise (£5.50), three cheese croquettes (£5.50), pan-fried king scallops (£8). The place was really quiet and the food arrived quickly. The asparagus had a lot of hollandaise on it but was lovely, and the scallops were absolute heaven. I didn't love the croquettes though as I thought they were a little bland (especially as they have three kinds of cheese in them). I wasn't drinking but really need to come back for the beers as their list is very long and delicious sounding. This is super cool bar and can't wait to come back for another visit.
