One of the dents in the brand new flooring

Our basic recommendation is that you do not hire DemoWorkers. Pros: - The project is over with Cons: - The project took over 3 months to complete (told it would take 3 weeks). We had to move to 3 different place during that time. - Threatened to put a lien on our house if we didn't pay the complete cost prior to the work being completed - DemoWorkers does not inspect/oversee the quality of the work - $1,800 for cleaning/dumping, but they left the house a mess and left construction debris in the backyard - None of the work was done well, we have issues with all of it - Had to redo work multiple times because it wasn't done right the first time - Bedroom door feel down days after they left - Damaged bathroom mirror, ceiling fan, dining room electrical and brand new flooring during work Project Details Renovation Cost - About $17,000 House Size: About 900 square feet, One story single-family home Work - - Repair/Sand/Stain/Refinish Existing hardwood floor (About 700 square feet) - Remove and install new baseboard and door/window casings - Install 4 interior doors (2 barn doors and 2 regular hanging) - Paint the entire first floor Timeline May 9th - First deposit payment was made July 8th - Actual work started, prior to this date July 24th - Painting/Flooring complete, still working on doors/trim - We were finally able to move back into the house August 11th - Last day workers performed labor The project consisted of $3,219.24 for "Overhead and Profit" as payment to DemoWorkers as general contractors for this project. As a general contractor, DemoWorkers was being paid for day-to-day oversight and communication of information to all involved parties throughout the course of the building to provide a timely high-quality project. However, in each of these cases, DemoWorkers failed to meet expectations. When we complained to DemoWorkers, they told us, "As a General Contractor we hire quality subcontractors that are expected to handle specific portions of the project." So, if you do hire DemoWorkers, understand that you are paying merely for someone to hire workers. You are still the one expected to hold the day workers accountable. There was a lack of supervision on this project. Many days, no one from the DemoWorkers team stopped to check in on the project and the largest issues with the work were discovered by us (i.e, the lack of a subfloor on the floor, the different heights of the vents, the incorrect installation of the barn door hardware, the dents in the flooring, the lack of disposal of construction debris, etc.). There was actually no skilled professional from DemoWorkers overseeing the project to ensure the work was done appropriately. Communication throughout the entire project was poor. It seemed that we were the last to know about everything. Some changes to the schedule were made without even communicating them to us, such as the order of work (finishing the paint prior to the resurfacing of the hardwood floors) and switching to a water based flooring finish instead of oil based. There was even a day were DemoWorkers failed to communicate a postponement of a meeting and we arrived at the house with no one there. We were told on multiple occasions that communication was delayed or attention was not given to this project due to focus on other DemoWorkers projects. DemoWorkers even made mistakes on the final invoice, such as how much we had already paid and how much they agreed to for cost (which we had e-mails to document).

I was starting with a smaller job first involving multiple carpentry related items. It's a good way to assess whether I'd use the contractor again for the more complex kitchen and bath. My HOA must approve any contractor before work commences and requires that they be licensed in Chicago, Insured, and bonded. Chicago Partners claims to be so on their website and confirmed that to me in person. IIan was very charming, knowledgeable, and initially quite responsive. His quote was detailed and helpfully assigned a dollar amount per task, as I'd requested. Unfortunately, as another reviewer noted, the proposal included language that would waive and indemnify Chicago Construction for any damage, harm, or injuries etc. that Chicago Construction might cause in the course of their work. I spoke to IIan about this and he said he was a lawyer and wrote it himself. I'm certain he did. I managed a contracts office doing over $300 million in business each year - none of my staff would ever approve a waiver that puts 100% of the risk on the client for harm that a contractor might cause. I asked IIan what was the point of requiring a contractor be bonded and insured was if I was going to waive their responsibility anyway? I told him my association wouldn't approve such a waiver. I asked him to strike the language and also to reduce the tasks in the quote. Unfortunately, I never heard back from him. This was in July. I used another contractor to complete the project and am now taking bids for the bathroom. I will not seek a bid from this company.

We recently had our bathrooms remodeled, and we couldn't be happier with the results. The scope of our project included a full renovation of primary, kids and guest bathrooms, and the quality of craftsmanship really shows in every space. From the tile work to the fixtures and overall layout, everything feels high-quality and thoughtfully done. We especially appreciated the unique elements incorporated into the design, like the wall-mounted faucets, recessed vanities, heated floors, and heated bidets--features that truly elevated both the look and comfort of our bathrooms. The team was excellent to work with from start to finish. Elizabeth, our designer, and Eric, our project manager, were both fantastic and communicated clearly throughout the entire process. Elizabeth helped bring our vision to life with thoughtful design choices and a great eye for the overall look and feel, while Eric kept everything running smoothly and on schedule. Our contractor, also named Eric, did very high-quality work, and it really shows in the finished product. Everyone we interacted with was professional, respectful, and clearly took pride in their work. Communication was consistent, and we always felt informed about what was happening next. The team's level of care and precision really stood out--they made sure everything was done right. The entire process, from design to construction to the final finishing touches, was smooth and well-managed. They helped guide us through design decisions without pressure, kept the project moving on schedule, and made sure the final result matched (and even exceeded) our expectations. The end result is a set of bathrooms that not only look amazing but feel built to last. We're extremely happy with the quality of work and the overall experience, and we would absolutely recommend them to anyone considering a remodel.

I was working with a more junior designer, and replies were sometimes delayed. Once we got into build phase, the process ran really smoothly. I worked primarily with Daniel who was coordinating everything, and he was very communicative. Everyone who worked on the project (tiling, plumbing, electrical) was prompt and attentive. There was a small snag at the end where my heated floors weren't heating. Daniel made sure to get the electrician, tiling professional, and heated floor professional on site to quickly identify the problem and remedy. The whole process from signing contract to completed bathroom was about six months. Longer than I was expecting, but happy to have had Chi Renovation coordinating all the moving pieces.

Natalia has been incredibly helpful in guiding us through big, impactful design decisions that are practical and thoughtful, while also keeping costs reasonable since we don't want to invest too much in a rental property. I also didn't want an interior designer to fully design every detail of the place. I wanted to be involved in choosing pieces myself, but have someone I could trust to advise me on whether things would actually work in our space, and Natalia has been perfect for that. I'll text her with questions about furniture purchases, design ideas, or even quick installation decisions when our maintenance guy is here, and she always responds right away. My husband is also very picky, but he has been genuinely impressed with her advice and with how our place has come together. I know Natalia takes on much larger and more expensive projects than ours, but I have never once felt like we were wasting her time. She has always been responsive, kind, and very professional. I highly recommend Natalia to anyone looking for practical, thoughtful design guidance that respects your time and budget. After reviewing the scope of the project, it was estimated that it would take a week and a half to complete. Not only did it take over a month to eventually complete, the days that the team would work were unpredictable. On several occasions, as the team would leave for the day, they would tell us they will be back tomorrow, and then not show up. Or, they wouldn't be able to tell us when they would come next, and would surprise us a few days later. They ended up needing to complete this project after I had delivered my baby (original timeline would've been completed weeks prior to my due date). Additionally, we noticed there were a few design decisions that were made without consulting us, like the drywall of the shower/re-installation of the water gauge (it's now not flush with the wall and very loose) and the selection of tile at the base of the shower that doesn't match the floor. He had offered to come fix the water gauge, but after coming to look at the issue, he has not gotten back to us in 5 weeks. I had high hopes for this project, and while it still looks nice, the lack of communication made it really difficult to want to recommend Peter or use his team again for future projects.

After putting out a request through the Yelp search service, O's was one of several that contacted us seeking to provide an estimate for the work. Out of all the contractors that came by to give an estimate, O's was the only one that provided straightforward pricing without playing games like increasing the overall price to make up for projects we decided not to take on just yet, and they also provided an honest assessment of what kinds of materials we'd need to get things to look the way we wanted them to. Luis provided the initial estimate, and was courteous, knowledgeable, and easy to work with from the first time we met him, all the way through the completion of the project. He took time to listen to what we wanted, and provided sound advice on how to get there, instead of just telling us how something had to be done and not considering what we wanted the finished result to look like. He took time to listen to us regarding everything from the big picture of how to get the project from start to completion, to the smallest detail of paint and design, and he continually made sure each piece was done to our complete satisfaction. I can't say enough good things about his project management and how thankful we are to have had him working with us on this. Whenever anything came up, he was always a text or a phone call away, and it was taken care of just like that. I also can't say enough good things about the crews that came to do the work. Every single one of them was friendly, courteous, respectful of our home and our needs while they were working, and most importantly, incredibly skilled in their work. Their skill and attention to detail were phenomenal, and they always took care to make sure everything was done perfectly. I'm sure I told each of them over and over how their work made the house look the way it should have from the beginning, and if we'd had our choice, they would have been the ones to do the work originally. They also took time to do a thorough cleanup at the end of each day, and were happy to check in with us and keep us posted on their progress, as well as making sure we were satisfied with the way things were looking each step of the way. Every single one of them were true professionals in every sense of the word, and their work is second to none. The interior spaces finally look the way we'd envisioned them from the beginning, and they took time to fix all of the issues left by the original contractor down to the smallest detail. Looking now at their truly superior work, I can safely say there's no comparison between the way the house looked before and how it looks now. I also can't thank them enough for everything they did. In the middle of the project, our basement got flooded by the storms in July 2023. The mostly cosmetic project that we'd originally hired O's to do before now became a complete basement renovation, including the replacement of drywall, studs, insulation, the pouring of new concrete, laying of tile, and then painting and decorating the entire basement essentially from scratch. O's team handled this unplanned second phase of our project just as well as they'd handled the first, with Luis providing his stellar project management and each member of the team providing their superior level of workmanship once again. We now have a fully functional finished basement once again, and honestly, one that far exceeds the previous version we had as well. All of this is thanks to the team at O's, who we couldn't possibly have done this without, nor would I trust anyone else to work on our house after having experienced the quality of work we got by hiring O's. In addition to all of this, they made sure to stay within our budget and still managed to give us the home we'd dreamed of all along. We're also already planning our next project with them, and wouldn't even think of going to anyone else. TL;DR: if you need to hire someone to fix literally anything in your home, hire O's. It'll be done right the first time, no matter what condition it's in when they arrive, from faulty to flooded. Their work is what all contractors should aspire to.
