My husband and I recently visited Demetres. Since he's lactose intolerant, we shared the Oreo milkshake while he also ordered the mango smoothie. The mango smoothie was delicious and he really enjoyed it. The Oreo milkshake was decent, but it wasn't quite my preference. I enjoy milkshakes that have visible chunks of Oreo and ice cream throughout, whereas this one was blended completely smooth, so I found it just okay. A special shoutout to our waitress, Dayna, who was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful while we were deciding what to order. She was pleasant and attentive throughout our visit and definitely made the experience more enjoyable. I hadn't been to Demetres in years, and I found the menu a bit more limited than I remembered. I'd love to see some classic dessert options added, such as a warm cookie or brownie served with ice cream. Overall, we had a pleasant visit and appreciated the friendly service. read more

First time at this location but have seen it in passing when visiting the area for other restaurants and entertainment. We were greeted promptly when we entered and were asked if we wanted to dine indoors or out. We were the only ones outdoors which made us worry if we would get adequate service but we were promptly served with water and came back to take our order. We ordered the Pretty in Pink Belgian waffle and a hot drink and both came out really quickly. The food and drinks were both enjoyable. The waffle was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the scoop of ice cream was massive and so good! The dessert is definitely big enough to share with at least one other person. We walked back into the restaurant to pay and the entire process was seamless and very quick. Would definitely revisit this location for more goodies. read more

We arrived for dessert in the evening and were seated quickly. We placed our order for the pomme pilot waffle and got it pretty quick. Sitting in Demetre after a show. Way too loud in here‼‼‼ They need to add plants, baffles....something to lessen the noise. Too hard to talk to the person at your table. I'm getting a headache! Love the food. The staff are pleasant but they need to pay more attention to the tables, when you come to put a dish on our table how about taking the dirty ones back?? I ended up putting our dirty dishes on the next table to get them out of the way. Plates are huge, tables are too small. When you clean a table please do not go away leaving the dirty rag on the table with the cleaning product. I'll have to think twice about coming back. Prices are expensive and it is not a relaxing experience. read more

A fun and cozy dessert spot with lots of food and drink options. Customer service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the main squeeze French crepe. It looked absolutely mouthwatering. The crepe was layered with fresh blueberries, drizzled with lemon curd, and topped with shortbread crumble and a generous scoop of lemon meringue ice cream. The crepe was light and airy. The lemon meringue ice cream was refreshing and just the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Overall, a fantastic spot for sweet treats! read more

I had an amazing experience at the Demetres location in Whitby! Upon arrival I was greeted by a very friendly waitress who got me seated without waiting! Because I already knew what I wanted, I ordered the Splitsonian waffle and substituted the vanilla ice cream for chocolate! The portion of ice cream was HUGE and the presentation was beautiful! All the fruit toppings were fresh, and the waffle was perfect - not too soggy, hot or cold! The staff were all very friendly. Location 9/10, food 8/10, ambience 6/10 This is a very convenient spot to go after a movie, since it is located next to the theatre. Food wise, they are generally pretty good. As an Asian, I think their desserts are generally very sweet. But the portion size is big and you can share a plate with 2-3 people with no issue. The service is pretty good, and the ambience is lacking. This place can get crowded and loud, and there's no booth to sit, and I didnt notice any chargers either - though I might be wrong about this. Overall, it's an affordable place that's family friendly. If you are looking for a place to chill for a long time or some sort of private ambience, this is not the place. But if you just looking for good deserts, this place is awesome. read more

I dropped by Demetres for a fun little evening out. I opted for the "Pretty in Pink" crepe, which I've never tried before. The crepe is topped with a delicious strawberry ice cream, fresh strawberries, and a Belgian white chocolate sauce with gold waferettes. The food quality and presentation were unmatched. The portion size was VERY generous and I wasn't sure if I'd finish at first, but it was mouthwateringly delicious (i did finish it lol). The combination of flavours and textures were on another level. When it comes to the presentation, Demetres never disappoints! The plating was so incredible I'm surprised I managed to snap a picture before digging in. The staff were very polite and the service was prompt. I think I visited at a great time, as the restaurant wasn't too busy. Our waitress was super friendly and very attentive to our needs during our visit, which made the experience that much better. Altogether it made for a great weeknight treat. I'll definitely be back soon! read more

Probably one of my favourite dessert places now! We got the Spiltsonian on a Belgian waffle and the Moo La La on a Belgian waffle. Great place for desserts! The portion sizes are good and the restaurant is clean. It is a little tightly packed but is a good place to just catch up, sit, relax and split a larger dessert or get your own if you have a sweet tooth. I had the brulé crepe with bananas and an AWESOME Dulce ice cream. The whipped cream is fresh but definitely isn't sweet like the aerosol canned whipped cream. I will definitely try that flavour again with the waffle instead. My siblings ordered a chocolate brownie crepe which was good, but not my cup of tea. Speaking of tea.. It is overpriced! $4.5 for one cup of tea. I opted out of that option. Service was definitely a 3 star rating. We waited 20 mins for our bill after we were finished. And she only checked on us once, 2 mins into eating. Will go again, but please improve the service. read more

This is one the prettiest Demetres I've been to perhaps because its a newer location. The inside boasts lots of colorful decor which gives off a whimsical feeling. There is a nice patio outside which is great to enjoy a giant ice cream on a hot summer's day. Upon entering we were kindly greeted and taken to a cozy seat by the window. Our waitress was really friendly and went over the menus with us and told us to close em up when we were ready to order and she'd be over. Demetres offers a great selection of crazy ice cream creations, milk shakes, smoothies, coffee drinks, crepes and waffles plus they have a cake display case with changing selections. Our Orders: Sub Zero Latte - A frosty blend of single shot espresso, sweetened cream & milk, ice, Honey Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and cinnamon This tasted amazing! Just like a sweetened frozen latte! It was pretty huge as well, I believe it was 14oz. Double Scoop Ice Cream Peanut Butter Overload - Rice peanut butter flavour, salty pan roasted peanuts, pure dark chocolate chunks & fudge swirl Chocolatta - Melted Bitter Sweet Chocolate & Sweet Cream I adored the peanut butter ice cream it was sweet and salty with the bits of peanuts and the chocolate ice cream was nice and creamy and not overly sweet The only thing I didn't like about the sundae was the waffle they topped the sundae with was still kinda raw not crisp at all. When I told the waitress about it she said they were having problems with there waffle machine and lots of other tables complained of the same thing however nothing was done about it? Another inconsistency I noticed about this place is that portion sizes of ice cream differed alot! I saw some single scooped sundaes that looked much bigger than my double scoop and other double scooped sundaes that looked smaller & larger than mine as well. Overall it is a really nice location with amazing dessert selections. Perhaps the inconsistencies were to due the mass amount of students working there? read more

Portion sizes are very big, even a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone is enormous. Staff are friendly and efficient, and good with my young son. But there is one major down side to here: Why, oh why, does a business that specialises in desserts feel that it's ok to use edible oil and not real whipped cream? The oil tastes nasty and is virtually inedible without making you feel nauseous. If Demetre would start using real whipped cream instead of the vile oil product I would definitely give more than 3 stars. read more

Brand new menu! New hilarious names! I tried the Summertime Fatness and my boyfriend had the Harlem Shake. Demetre's doesn't disappoint. The new ice cream flavours are to die for. I'm glad they freshened up their menu; they've never had a different one since I've been going there. If you're a cake person, they changed their cakes. Also, they no longer have red cherries, only black cherries; so if you're a cherry cheesecake fan, beware! The prices did go up a bit, but I guess that's to be expected. Still love this place, can't wait to try more of their new creations. read more

Let's start with the line up. It was out the door. There were six empty tables so I'm not sure what was taking so long to get people in. It took 20 minutes for us to even be greeted by the hostess. They finally took our names down. We sat down. They took our orders right away. The server was nice. However 30 minutes went by, and people who sat down after us got there orders before us. Caffe Demetre, commonly referred to as "Demetres" is a staple in Whitby. I remember going to Demetres as a kid, back when the movie theatre in that plaza was still an AMC. I've recently visited again and it is just as delicious and whimsical as I remembered. Demetres is a full-on dessert restaurant serving extravagant waffles, crepes, sundaes, milkshakes, cakes, and more. Anything I've ever ordered is delicious (how can ice cream ever be wrong?) and the service is also quick and courteous. If you pay close attention to the menu (which can conveniently be found on their website), you'll notice that many of their items are a play-on-words of popular culture references. For example, the sundae in my photo is titled Katy Berry and it is possibly my favourite on their menu. Overall, this is an excellent dessert stop which will suit almost anyone's preferences from chocolate, to fruity, to caramel, and everything in between. Best of all, it is in a great plaza with lots of activities for a fun-filled night. If you're in Durham definitely give Demetres a try!! read more

We have been here a few times and the place did not disappoint as much as it did this time. At the time the place wasn't as busy as usual but it still took us over 10 minutes to be asked for our orders. We waited another 40 minutes before we decided to get up and leave - we didn't even receive our drinks. In addition, a neglected mess was right beside our table the entire time. The waiters were standing around chitchatting. They didn't even bother to communicate with us why the food and beverages was taking as long as it did. read more

This is the Ajax location off of consumer way and was a quick stop for my brother and I on our journey towards Eastern Ontario. After a few minutes of contemplating buying all chocolates, we both decided on getting waffles dishes with ice cream. I got the Robert Brownie Jr. (I know), which was a vanilla ice cream with hazelnut and praline atop a freshly made waffle, drizzled with Belgian milk chocolate sauce and garnished with flavourful Brownie bits. Overall, amazing! Too much sugar, but hey, I knew what I was getting myself into.
