We visited on August 2 at around 9:00 p.m. as a group of four and ordered ice cream, coffee, and ice cream sandwiches. After finishing, we paid our bill and got up from our table to leave. As soon as we reached the door, we realized it was pouring rain. Since we only had one umbrella, our husbands went to the parking lot to get the car and asked us to wait inside for 10-15 minutes so we wouldn't get soaked. My friend and I didn't want to return to our previous table, so we sat in the takeout waiting area instead. However, the air conditioning above that spot was blowing extremely cold air, and since my friend was wearing shorts, she was freezing. We simply moved to the table directly in front of us. A female employee, who I believe may have been the shift manager, approached us and said we couldn't sit there and had to wait in the takeout area by the entrance. She knew we had literally just finished eating and had only moved because of the cold. We politely explained that we were freezing and asked if we could please stay at that table for just a few minutes. She said "okay" and walked away. Apparently, that wasn't the end of it. She must have complained to another employee because a male staff member came over next. His attitude was unbelievably rude and disrespectful. The only thing he didn't do was physically throw us out. We asked him why, in an almost empty store on a rainy evening with no customers waiting, his biggest concern was forcing two paying customers to move while we waited five minutes for our ride. He couldn't even give us a reasonable explanation. The level of customer service was shocking. We weren't asking for free food or trying to occupy a table for hours--we had already paid, already eaten, and simply wanted to avoid standing in the cold and rain for a few minutes. I will never return, and I will actively discourage others from visiting. Demetres should seriously rethink who they hire because this is some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. If this is your standard of hospitality, it's no wonder customers choose to spend their money elsewhere. read more

The food quality seems OK but I feel like the strawberries we got were very frozen and old. The customer service was good. She helped with suggestions (the ones with the Demetres logo are the best sellers). I finally settled on one of their sundaes because I wanted their ice cream. Pro tip: you can also personalize or make your own dessert by swapping out any toppings - they are all listed on the back of the menu. I got their Nuts about You sundae but asked if I could swap the vanilla for their seasonal flavour, Ube. Now, those two flavours are different but that's why I wanted to try them! The sundae was delicious! All the elements worked well together, the chewiness from the blondies, the crunch from the candied pecans, the creaminess of the cardamom cream and ice creams. And my swap out resulted from a beautiful contrast of colours between the purple Ube and yellow Whispers of Saffron. Beautiful and delicious! I left nothing in that bowl! The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely with many families and easy listening music playing in the background. The seating area is wheelchair accessible, however the washrooms are shared with the Distillery District and require going into a hallway without mechanical doors. read more

The location and approach to Demetres Distillery was the first great thing as we enjoyed a nice walk through Toronto's beautiful historic Distillery District. We were pleasantly greeted by Faye who turned out to be our server. She gave helpful recommendations and descriptions both prompted and unprompted. I ordered the "Left No Crumbs" tiramisu with a scoop of Cocoa Couture ice cream plus as Faye recommended, a side of Vanilla Cream Sauce. The order arrived quickly on a colourful plate and I was surprised by the added fresh strawberry slices. The scoop of ice cream was more like 3 scoops (size of a baseball) and very chocolatety with Oreo cookie bits... yum. The tiramisu was creamy and flavourful but lighter on coffee flavour and hardly any liqueur taste, which I understand as it's probably meant for all ages. The recommended vanilla sauce more than made up for it though. I would definitely recommend my order unless you are one who insists on tiramisu soaked in strong coffee liqueur. The Biscoff sauce was initially warm, comforting and smoother than I expected, then cooled to a luscious chewy caramel. There were fire pits outside the store so we ordered to go planning to sit by the fire pits. Unfortunately, it started to rain hard. Knowing that they have already started making our order so we didn't want to add trouble having them switching to dining in. When we tried to sit down by a table (didn't even touch anything on the table ), we were kicked out of the store because we ordered to go. The store was pretty much empty at the time. Even if we were not paying customers they could have let us stay a few minutes as shelter for the rain.
