Order and pick up counter
Deborah H.

On vacation in Schenectady NY and decided on DeMarco's Pizza because it was so close to our campground. In an older part of town, we parked on the street. A small pizza place, looks like the building was an old store at one time many decades ago. A carry out and if you want you can dine in at one of their tables. Very clean and organized considering its size. You check out the menu and order at the counter. Large cooler with ample choice's of beverages and 4 large already made pizzas, all different to choose from if you wanted a quick lunch or to take home a few slices. We placed our order with a very nice young woman at the counter. Sat at a table to wait for our dinner order to be brought to us. Steady stream of customers coming in to pick up their carry out orders and no doubt popular with the locals! Our Caesar salad was brought to us first with really good Italian bread and butter. That salad was huge and chilled and fresh with a great dressing and tasty croutons and ample shaved Parmesan cheese, it was delish, had some leftovers for home. Then that awesome, hot, delicious large Meat lovers cooked well down pizza arrived and it was piping hot and we wanted to jump in but had to wait for it to cool down a few minutes, then we dug in!! OMG, one of the best pizzas we have had the pleasure of eating, bar none!!! The pizza was delicious and the sauce and cheese perfect. Ample toppings and lots of cheese, we truly enjoyed our meal and had some to take home. Prices so reasonable for the Soda's, salad and that big pizza. You must try this place, highly recommend!! DeMarco's pizza has a cult following and my husband and I just joined the club! Debbie, Mich

A friend of mine boasted of the wonderful Antipasto she got from Demarco's in Scotia. So, while I was in the neighborhood one day, I picked up one said salad to go. It was everything she said it was. A fresh bed of lettuce and greens topped with mounds of salami, ham, pepperoni and cheese along with red onions, peppers, pepperoncinis, and I can't remember the rest. It's not near me to visit regularly, but would if it were closer. Those who live near here I am sure they know of the great place they have.

I ordered an American sub. I saw someone in the back carving meat, always a good sign. He comes up from with this massive sub that had to be 2lbs.. It was great but too big. Everything was fresh.

But also... facts are facts and the facts are DELICIOUS. It was a full-on snowstorm, the weird dead zone after Christmas where everyone else is like "nah, we're closing early," and Perrecca's was like: "We ride." Just me and the wife, snow coming down sideways, and this place is warm, welcoming, and absolutely cranking out hot food. And I mean HOT hot -- not "restaurant hot," but "careful-that-plate-is-trying-to-burn-your fingerprints-off" hot. Love to see it. Food? Super tasty. No notes. Service? Solid across the board. Bathrooms? Clean enough to eat off of (I didn't, but I could've). Parking? Plenty of off-street, no parallel parking Olympics required. Now let's talk about the hostess -- because WOW. She works the room like she personally built the place brick by brick. Touches every table, warm, friendly, checking in -- you'd swear her name was on the sign out front. Absolute pro. Hospitality Hall of Fame behavior. Between the legendary bakery, the attached restaurant, and the fact that they stayed open when the weather said "stay home," this place is a must-see Schenectady institution. Come hungry. Leave happy. Possibly leave with extra bread you didn't plan on buying but somehow needed. Would go back in a blizzard. Would go back tomorrow. Would go back just for the vibes.

Ever since, I try to stop by about three or four times a year to enjoy the food and ambiance. The owners Mike and Barb are retiring 7/31/24 after fifty years. May they enjoy their retirement. The new owners, a couple from Schenectady, will keep the name and the menu. Bravo! It is a lot of work and long hours, but it was evident that the owners enjoyed their business and their customers, many of whom became regulars. You noticed that the food they prepared was made with love and expertise. It was consistently good. The menu has been constant over the years because it pleased customers and made the place a success. The roast beef and turkey are cooked daily. Plus, the potato salad and macaroni salad are made in house every morning by Barb. I had to stop by today to honor my memories of eating here over the years. I had a huge roast beef and turkey mix on rye with thousand island dressing and macaroni salad. Delicious as always. I took half home for my husband to enjoy. He did! My friend enjoyed a huge roast beef sandwich and a potato salad side. Even the dill pickle spears taste incredible here! It must be the yummy sandwich. We sincerely hope the quality and ambiance continue with the new owners. If that is the case, I look forward to supporting them. It is so much better than a chain restaurant.

R Gershon's Deli (Facebook) Dear Friends of Gershon's, It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with our loyal customers, friends, staff, and extended family. I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Geshon's Deli & Caterers. Friday, January 30th, 2026, was our final day. This decision was not made lightly as Gershon's has been an integral part of my life since I was a little girl. After my father's untimely passing, I took over with one clear mission, to honor his legacy, keep his dream alive, and continue providing quality service and "good food for good people." For more than 60 years, Gershon's has been shaped by the people who walked through our doors. Every employee, customer, client, and friend has played a role in our story and our success. Unfortunately, rising food costs, ongoing economic challenges, the lasting effects of COVID, and the loss of my final opportunity this week have left me with no other choice. To everyone who has supported me over the past nine years, thank you. Thank you for the memories, for trusting us with your celebrations, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives, in both the joyful times and the hard ones. I will miss seeing you all more than I can put into words. I like the attentiveness of the staff whenever we come here in person whether for diner in or takeaway, and their fresh pickles are wonderfully crunchy and worth looking forward to. They have some delicious pies, too, and the chocolate cream pie is our fave. I would go back, but the inconsistency over time certainly has dampened my enthusiasm that I may have once had.

Not just that, but you get some bang for your buck as their sammy's (at least the one I had) were loaded and reasonably priced fer sure. From the outside and when you walk it it looks like a...little country store. And indeed it is, with the kinda stuff you find at a country store along with some locally made items. Everything from fishing bait to jars of pickled things. But behind the counter is a nice lady who not only runs the register, but also takes and makes your food to order. So taking that in account, it may take a minute, but really not that long. Seriously I've had drive through's take longer. Anyhoo, off their menu my eyes immediately went to a sammy called The Widow Maker. I mean with a name like that how could one resist? Here's the menu description: "WIDOWMAKER Breakfast Sandwich Are you HUNGRY? This will definitely fill you up! 2 eggs + cheese with all 3 meats (Sausage Patty, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Black Forest Ham).' Sounds like a lot and not just that, it looked like a lot. And to top it off, it tasted as good as it reads. Definitely filled me up. Can't speak of the other items on the menu, but the party I was with ordered different items and I can attest that they were just as happy with their food as I was. And though this isn't a sit down type of establishment, you can take your food to go, walk across the street with your sammy and coffee, find a picnic table and enjoy a nice view of the Mohawk River. Weather depending of course.

In one sentence: The food for my grandson's graduation party prepared by LaGioia Deli was outstanding! All the guests raved by the quality of the food, the preparation, and the quantity! From the moment my daughter contacted Laura, the owner, to place the order to its pickup everything was handled efficiently, with care, and with an emphasis on what the customer desired. A change in the order was made with no problem. Friendly service throughout the process. The food was packaged very well and stayed warm. Portions were generous and the cost less than other places. The items ordered: Cheese Tortellini with Broccoli and Shrimp (excellent) Chicken Parm (outstanding!) Meatballs (like Grandma makes, so GOOD) Ziti with red sauce (freshly made and seasoned perfectly) Cavatelli with red sauce Eggplant Rollitini (popular and delicious) Chicken tenders Three large loaves of house made bread (outstanding, guests returned for seconds) (The owner gave us rolls also.) A large container of grated cheese and extra sauce was included. Our family from Rhode Island took some bread for the car trip home. Check out my photos to view the food! There were lots of leftovers to enjoy another day or two or three. We highly recommend LaGioia for catering. We usually order from Homestyle, but the food here was better. (Not to mention the better attitude plus getting the order correct and ready when requested. Owner at Homestyle sometimes "forgets" to tell kitchen about phone orders. You arrive for pickup, and there is no record of order!!!) Pizzas from Pizza Works in Burnt Hills rounded out the menu along with a tossed salad and fresh fruit. Two large Ice Cream Cakes from Marcela's on Rt. 50 were a hit as always! Nana made Italian Lemon Cookies!
