Amazing pizza, super fresh and made to order. Service was quick and easy. We visited many times and were never disappointed.

As someone who has been coming to DeMara's all her life; over 40 years, it is sad that the quality of the pizza has continued to decrease. DeMara's is known for its fantastic thin-to-regular crust. Oddly enough tonight, I was served a pizza that was thicker than a Pizza Hut Pan Pizza. What is going on? The dough wasn't cooked all the way and raw; because it's too thick. I returned the pizza and the kitchen staff was not pleased and reacted poorly. This is not the DeMara's service and atmosphere that is part of our community. I hope they figure out what to do to get back to expected quality. read more

I pray the owner of the business sees this- My husband and I have been a customer of DeMara's for well over a year. We are just newer residents to Sumter. We just walked in and asked if we could still place an order to eat there. For the record- another couple was sitting down and their food just got brought to their table. The young lady with short blonde hair and glasses told us and I quote "umm well we close in like 13 minutes so no". If you are open until 9PM and do not have a sign stating you have the right to refuse service- you are ok with your staff just boldly telling good paying customers "oh too bad too sad?" Seriously? Same on your staff for not wanting to have to work a second past 9PM. read more

To call this place a restaurant is quite a stretch. The first hint should have been when I called to make a reservation. Not only are there no reservations, but you order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. We asked for a bottle of water (after finding there is NO wine at an italian "restaurant") and we were each given a styrofoam cup with ice and water that definitely did not come from a bottle. I was so shocked with the whole place - that I decided I would just get pasta with sauce - it was beyond horrible - I took one bite. It was not hot and tasted like it can out of a can. My husband had a small cheese pizza which he shared with me...the pizza had some potential. Someone wrote this place is a GEM - this place is a pizza place with no atmosphere and should definitely not be listed as a restaurant because it is a far cry from that. After driving all day we were looking forward to a nice italian meal, a couple glasses of wine and a relaxing atmosphere - what a disappointmen!!! read more

In fact, I was a little bummed to likely only have fast food kinds of pizza in the area like Dominoes or Pizza Hut, (which are good for what they are, but...) this little restaurant is THE diamond in the rough! We were passing through town, looking at Yelp for a place to get pizza for lunch. We decided to try DeMara's out. So glad we did. Staff was very friendly and we got two personal size pies that were both terrific. If we lived in Sumter it would be one of our "go to's". read more

The managers are amazing! They helped coordinate two meals for our high school basketball team. The players reported the food was very good!

UPDATE 8/9/18: We decided to try it again. My mother ordered a supreme and a double cheese/pepperoni. BOTH pizzas were burnt, and the double cheese/pepperoni had 11 slices of pepperoni on a large pizza! That's it for us and Demara's..not the same...sad. read more

The salad took much longer than the mini pizza, which took a ridiculous length of time given that we were the second set of customers at about 5:30 pm on a Tuesday. Always remarkebly slow, but with only one other table of two in the place? Had I known it was my wife's salad sitting in the window long after I got my pizza, which was plenty long enough, I'd have said something. Wasn't thinking. Forever to make it and another forever to take it out of the window and deliver it to the table. Now about the pizza... a 7" pizza with pepperoni and onions. Undercooked! All but the bottom 1/3 thickness or so of the crust had that doughy translucent appearance from soggy undercooked dough. The onions were diced, not thinly sliced, and were warm, but otherwise raw. They were piled on top of the pepperoni so the pepperoni wasn't browned a bit to give it that real pizza oven flavor. I'd call it BOILED in the red sauce. I sent it back in hopes the onions could be cooked a lot better. Nope! A bit better, but still not cooked, still crispy, BUT if it had been cooked any longer the brown spots on the bottom which weren't there the first time would have been black. Brown was good, it's what I've come to expect in a good pizza, but properly cooked would have made them black and overcooked. I'd have loved to see the oven, how it was heated and what temperature it was. Definitely not hot enough and the pizza looked like most of the heat was from the bottom of the oven, not much from the top. All in all a poor experience, made even poorer by a manager who didn't care. "That's how I make pizza... sorry" as she turned her back and walked away. I've been here before, good, but nothing to rave about, but won't be returning. Years ago it was the best pizza in town. read more

Good pizza place on Highway 441. This place, for a reasonable price, puts more toppings on a pizza that you could ever imagine. The crust of the pizza is very good. They are light on the cheese and pizza sauce, but if you like a lot of toppings this is your place. No kidding , they must put a whole can of mushrooms on the mushroom topping pizza. A big can. They also serve beer, which goes good with pizza and have home made desserts. We will be back indeed. read more

Our family of 5 went one night for dinner... The dining area was nice, but seeing as how we had never been to the restaurant, we didn't know that you had to come to the counter to order the food before being seated. The lady behind the counter walked past us four times, even making eye contact with us, before we finally asked if we seated ourselves. She was very sour and indifferent the entire time, looked at us as if we should have known better. The food came out in reheatable to go containers and paper plates with plastic forks and knives. Our plates started leaking. The food took nearly 45 minutes to come out as well. It tasted mediocre at best, and to be honest, chef boyarde would have been better. Would absolutely not return and would never recommend this place to someone looking to enjoy a night out with their family. Save your money. read more

Their lunch subs are SO good. Friendly staff too! Their water in the fountain does not taste good, though. The subs also take an abnormally long time to be made. That's the only negative, but it isn't convenient to go to for a quick lunch if you are pressed for time. read more

This place use to be real good. It's a shame the old building burned down. The new place is nice but the atmosphere is nothing like it use to be. The food was just like it use to be after opening the new place but as time has gone by it has gotten pitiful! Using cheaper ingredients it seems. You order a pizza and there is no sauce on it. The dough is never the same. Might be good tasting on week and flat and tasteless the next. You order a sub with a little extra mayo and it comes swimming in it. The workers don't give a crap about anything, it's a bunch of teenagers and young adults and they could care less how they make the food. You would also think since it is a local establishment and it has a regular clientel that they would get to know you....ha what a joke. It just saddens me! read more
