Dinner and lunch here are NOT always an option (they do special events and seasonally open as a dinner restaurant) but breakfast was exceptional! Firstly - love a bed and breakfast that can seamlessly pair historic decor with modern touches such as a fridge stocked with refreshments, coffee available at all times of the day, wine openers and glasses available in the dining room and thoughtful led candles illuminating the staircase and a supply of tea, electric kettle and a microwave if you just so happen to bring your own popcorn. The pictures alone definitely showcase this thoughtfully decorated home with justice however what photographs and videos do not show you is the attentiveness and memories you'll make during your stay here. Staying at Benefield House really does feel like visiting old friends you've known for years and their names are Tommy & Nicole. They take such pride in the food cooked every morning and really open their hearts to everyone whom enters their home. To have the ability to create coziness without being intrusive and freedom to make your stay as inclusive or secluded as you wish is a fine art that they have definitely honed in with perfection. They are both so knowledgeable about the town and the history, so don't miss out on picking their brains for all the little details that might otherwise have been overlooked. My husband and I enjoyed staying up late with another couple that was staying in the B&B, drinking wine and chatting in the living area. The breakfasts were delicious and robust. Booking was as easy as could be, the location was right in the heart of Jefferson close to restaurants and shops, only about a half an hour drive to our boat tour guide of Caddo Lake, parking was a breeze, check out was simple, and honestly staying here was the corner stone that made this trip a huge success.

You can tell they love their home, their town, and their guests, and take pride in making you feel welcome. In fact, they took me on a golf cart ride around town and showed me some of the finer points as it wasn't busy that night and said golf carts were complimentary for guest's use. My cottage was huge with an adjustable mattress, free streaming TV with Hulu and snacks and soft drinks or water if I should get hungry while watching. There was plenty to read about the history of Jefferson, the house, or things to do, with a list specific to that weekend. There was a wonderful shower/ tub combo with all the toiletries I could need. There were plenty of extra blankets, pillows and Siri (for any music genre to sing me to sleep). BTW, the bed was so comfy, I told them I needed one for home. Outside I had a porch with rocking chairs, there's a gazebo, and a common area with chairs and a fir pit for cooler weather. You are also welcome in the common areas in the house. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. There was a delicious breakfast casserole, sausage, sliced avocado, and watermelon with blueberries. The evening prior I had dinner at Haywood House which was delicious, also one of many favorites of my hosts. Just ask. They are foodies and give great recommendations! The place was so quiet most of the time, I thought we might be the only people actually staying in our RV. There are several other RVs out there, but we saw only a couple people at one of them while we were there. Dogs are not required to be on a leash here. We only found this to be a problem when one pitbull was especially friendly and jumping on us. We have no idea what the 3-4 dog's names were, or who they belonged to. Dogs poop where they want, and no one is picking it up....however, with that said, I never saw one poop near a campsite. They always did their business further out. There are no concrete pads, no picnic tables, no grills, etc here. This wasn't an issue for us, but you might want to know. It was very cold during our stay from January 3-7, 2022. We had no issues with our water, sewer, or electricity. It was a tight fit for our 42' fifth wheel at the first site they were going to put us, so we needed to move down a bit to a larger area. Luckily, there were many open sites, so this wasn't an issue. There are kayak rentals on the property, and lots to do in the area. There is some fracking going on closeby. A generator (or something that makes a lot of noise) ran a lot of the time we were there. Thankfully, we can sleep through just about anything, so this wasn't a big issue for us. It did detract from the quiet during the day, when we would've preferred to hear nature instead. This fracking is not taking place on the RV park property. They have no control over when this noise is going to come and go. I can see that this would be a big problem for some people. It was loud. But, it didn't bother us a lot because we were gone a lot of the time. My husband would probably say his favorite thing on this trip was the Measurement and Time Museum in Jefferson. He spent over 2 hours touring and talking to the owner. I enjoyed the shopping and talking to all the shopkeepers. There were some cute plus size clothes at Yesteryear and also The Front Porch. I'm hard to fit, and picky about the length of my shirts, and found exactly what I needed. We enjoyed the BBQ at Riverport, and the French Dip sandwiches at McGarity's. Service was good everywhere we went. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The Kroger and Walmart in Marshall are nuts! I've never seen a busier grocery store than the Kroger, and I've lived in heavily-populated Arlington, TX most of my life. It was hard to find a parking spot. We were disappointed to find out the local steamboat/paddleboat recently sank and is no longer available for tours. Also, because it was the week after New Year's, many shops, restaurants, and museums were closed for an extended period of time - some all the way to Feb. 1st. I highly recommend calling first before going somewhere, if you're coming in January.
