At the time, there happened to be a motorcycle rally in memory of a fallen motorcyclist and every hotel room in the area was booked. Through the magic of cell phone internet, I was able to book a cottage to get me off the iron horse and start a great evening of exploring Jefferson, Texas. I managed to be greeted by a great gentleman right around 4:20. He was extremely friendly and his hospitality was amazing. He made sure to provide me with any needs and information I had to make my stay extremely pleasant under the circumstances. I am looking forward to booking again this Summer and will insist on staying here again. I normally refuse to book anywhere I have already been in the spirit of trying something new but there is no where else in Jefferson that I can imagine staying.

The moment I was invited back for the Fall conference, I hopped onto Air BNB and booked us here again. Yay! The Three Sisters Cottages BNB is a trio of little cabins in historic Jefferson, Texas. (It would be a great place for 3 couples to come and stay because you'd each have your own cabin, but could share the fire pit in the middle.) The cabins are so cute and cozy inside! They feature every modern luxury, including WiFi that actually works, a/c, TV, and heat. Each one features a kitchenette with a coffee maker, frig, and microwave. The hosts (Tammy and Randy) are helpful and friendly. They make you feel special without being intrusive. They are easy to communicate with and respond quickly to emails and phone calls. As for the breakfast: It's delivered right to your door in the morning! Not only are the breakfasts tasty, but they are photogenic. Your friends will be jealous when they see those food pics on your social media. (Speaking of, if you're on Instagram, check out the Three Sisters Cottages account and you'll see what I mean!) So next time you and your partner need a weekend escape, give the Three Sisters Cottages a try!

The building the bride and groom rented, Snug Harbor, wasn't the Ritz Carlton, but it had a great atmosphere for an informal wedding with lots of space and all the accommodations you would need for a weekend getaway like a stove and beds and baths and a washer-dryer. The yard out back was gigantic and featured a fishing pier, a lovely view of Caddo Lake, little pirogues and canoes with paddles, and a fire pit. The only thing you may have a problem with is that there are a lot of knick knacks inside the cabin and they may attract dust, but they looked pretty well dusted when we were there. I would highly recommend this spot for a short vacation or getaway. Uncertain is a FUN little town, the locals are the nicest people in East Texas, and Caddo lake is gorgeous. You can't see into it - it's about the color of coffee and not good for swimming, but if you love to fish or boat, Texas's only natural lake is a great place to go. There's also a convenience store a couple of houses down, a bar a few blocks away (bring your bike), a flea market nearby and great restaurants all around the lake. Also - the Testicle Festival was going on the weekend of the wedding. I don't know if that's a celebration for the consumption of testicles or the castration of animals or a meeting for testicle cancer survivors, but it sounds entertaining and you never know in Uncertain.

My husband and I stayed here on a recent trip to the area. I believe our cabin was #8 (the red…read morecabin?), but I can't remember. I will say that for the area it is probably the nicest thing you'll find other than one of the B&B's in Jefferson. The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows (a big plus). This is obviously an older home which has new carpets and somewhat new furniture. There is a washer and dryer by the kitchen with detergent so you can have all clean clothes when you go home if you wish. Their is a pier behind one of the cottages across the street that is open use for all who are staying at a "Hodge Podge" Cottage. Their are canoes/pirogues you can use as well, but I noticed that many passing in speed boats didn't care about keeping a low wake so it might not be the safest thing. So why only 3 stars? For just a couple of nights stay it was very nice, but I can't say I would return if I were in the area or if I wanted to stay longer than a weekend. Mainly the wifi they use is either old and not working with our current gadgets or just not that good. Or maybe it's the fact that there are only 2 connections and 8 cabins? Chances are you won't be able to use it. Also, if they can afford to charge over $100 a night for the cabins, then they should upgrade the VCR to a cheap DVD player and get rid of the boom-box with the cassette player. Like I said, for 2-nights it didn't matter too much. The tubs were stained and there was a ton of dust at the bottom of every wall. And last, the front of our cabin had the only RV hookup and there was an RV parked right in front of the bedroom window. This bedroom has a very thin curtain so my husband wound up hanging the blanket over the window so our "neighbors" couldn't see into the room. We would have stayed in the back bedroom but the bed is smaller, the curtains are sheer, and there is a bright light right outside that window!

Firstly - love a bed and breakfast that can seamlessly pair historic decor with modern touches such as a fridge stocked with refreshments, coffee available at all times of the day, wine openers and glasses available in the dining room and thoughtful led candles illuminating the staircase and a supply of tea, electric kettle and a microwave if you just so happen to bring your own popcorn. The pictures alone definitely showcase this thoughtfully decorated home with justice however what photographs and videos do not show you is the attentiveness and memories you'll make during your stay here. Staying at Benefield House really does feel like visiting old friends you've known for years and their names are Tommy & Nicole. They take such pride in the food cooked every morning and really open their hearts to everyone whom enters their home. To have the ability to create coziness without being intrusive and freedom to make your stay as inclusive or secluded as you wish is a fine art that they have definitely honed in with perfection. They are both so knowledgeable about the town and the history, so don't miss out on picking their brains for all the little details that might otherwise have been overlooked. My husband and I enjoyed staying up late with another couple that was staying in the B&B, drinking wine and chatting in the living area. The breakfasts were delicious and robust. Booking was as easy as could be, the location was right in the heart of Jefferson close to restaurants and shops, only about a half an hour drive to our boat tour guide of Caddo Lake, parking was a breeze, check out was simple, and honestly staying here was the corner stone that made this trip a huge success.

You can tell they love their home, their town, and their guests, and take pride in making you feel welcome. In fact, they took me on a golf cart ride around town and showed me some of the finer points as it wasn't busy that night and said golf carts were complimentary for guest's use. My cottage was huge with an adjustable mattress, free streaming TV with Hulu and snacks and soft drinks or water if I should get hungry while watching. There was plenty to read about the history of Jefferson, the house, or things to do, with a list specific to that weekend. There was a wonderful shower/ tub combo with all the toiletries I could need. There were plenty of extra blankets, pillows and Siri (for any music genre to sing me to sleep). BTW, the bed was so comfy, I told them I needed one for home. Outside I had a porch with rocking chairs, there's a gazebo, and a common area with chairs and a fir pit for cooler weather. You are also welcome in the common areas in the house. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. There was a delicious breakfast casserole, sausage, sliced avocado, and watermelon with blueberries. The evening prior I had dinner at Haywood House which was delicious, also one of many favorites of my hosts. Just ask. They are foodies and give great recommendations! It was just the hubs and I and our pup, so we didn't really need any more room than what we had. There was a full size coffeemaker and fresh coffee, along with some snacks. It felt like the owner (who lives about 50 feet away) may be hanging out in here regularly, which is fine, but at least hire someone to clean it before guests arrive. The main reason I stayed is because there was bad weather the first night and I didn't want my husband to have to reload all of our stuff and go find some other place. The owner seemed to be a nice guy and I didn't hate the accommodations, I just prefer it to be clean. Price was reasonable as well.
