This restaurant is posed as a private one. You can buy a membership and any of the surrounding golf clubs and restaurants as part of a bigger group enjoy these benefits. I got charged a 20% gratuity for my group of 2, along with a 5% credit card fee. So 25% of my bill I had no choice but to pay. FOOD/DRINKS This is the most important part and the food was subpar. The fish special was $80 and the only good dish. The $70 fillet tasted rough like a sirloin and the fried green tomato was not ripe. The drinks were watered down. I was very underwhelmed. SERVICE Tony, our server, was great. Very kind and pretty attentive considering there were no other groups in our room. What's weird about that is we were asked to order quickly...? AMBIANCE The restraint wanted to be upscale, but it screamed Longview. The chairs had marks all over them, the walls were beat up and the music was really quiet, it was really awkward being the only group in the room from 6:30-7:30p on a Saturday night.

The main house was decorated for Christmas with an attention to detail that was astounding. Jefferson has an interesting history as also their home. We will be back.

You can tell they love their home, their town, and their guests, and take pride in making you feel welcome. In fact, they took me on a golf cart ride around town and showed me some of the finer points as it wasn't busy that night and said golf carts were complimentary for guest's use. My cottage was huge with an adjustable mattress, free streaming TV with Hulu and snacks and soft drinks or water if I should get hungry while watching. There was plenty to read about the history of Jefferson, the house, or things to do, with a list specific to that weekend. There was a wonderful shower/ tub combo with all the toiletries I could need. There were plenty of extra blankets, pillows and Siri (for any music genre to sing me to sleep). BTW, the bed was so comfy, I told them I needed one for home. Outside I had a porch with rocking chairs, there's a gazebo, and a common area with chairs and a fir pit for cooler weather. You are also welcome in the common areas in the house. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. There was a delicious breakfast casserole, sausage, sliced avocado, and watermelon with blueberries. The evening prior I had dinner at Haywood House which was delicious, also one of many favorites of my hosts. Just ask. They are foodies and give great recommendations! It was a wonderful weekend with family and meeting new friends. Marty and Julie are amazing hosts! I look forward to returning to Green Gables for years to come!

There was a grill at the site we were at. No table, but we brought one. It did look like they may have some available at some of the other sites. Having the boat ramp right there was ideal for taking our kayak out and you can fish off the dock behind the owners house. The place was so quiet most of the time, I thought we might be the only people actually staying in our RV. There are several other RVs out there, but we saw only a couple people at one of them while we were there. Dogs are not required to be on a leash here. We only found this to be a problem when one pitbull was especially friendly and jumping on us. We have no idea what the 3-4 dog's names were, or who they belonged to. Dogs poop where they want, and no one is picking it up....however, with that said, I never saw one poop near a campsite. They always did their business further out. There are no concrete pads, no picnic tables, no grills, etc here. This wasn't an issue for us, but you might want to know. It was very cold during our stay from January 3-7, 2022. We had no issues with our water, sewer, or electricity. It was a tight fit for our 42' fifth wheel at the first site they were going to put us, so we needed to move down a bit to a larger area. Luckily, there were many open sites, so this wasn't an issue. There are kayak rentals on the property, and lots to do in the area. There is some fracking going on closeby. A generator (or something that makes a lot of noise) ran a lot of the time we were there. Thankfully, we can sleep through just about anything, so this wasn't a big issue for us. It did detract from the quiet during the day, when we would've preferred to hear nature instead. This fracking is not taking place on the RV park property. They have no control over when this noise is going to come and go. I can see that this would be a big problem for some people. It was loud. But, it didn't bother us a lot because we were gone a lot of the time. My husband would probably say his favorite thing on this trip was the Measurement and Time Museum in Jefferson. He spent over 2 hours touring and talking to the owner. I enjoyed the shopping and talking to all the shopkeepers. There were some cute plus size clothes at Yesteryear and also The Front Porch. I'm hard to fit, and picky about the length of my shirts, and found exactly what I needed. We enjoyed the BBQ at Riverport, and the French Dip sandwiches at McGarity's. Service was good everywhere we went. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The Kroger and Walmart in Marshall are nuts! I've never seen a busier grocery store than the Kroger, and I've lived in heavily-populated Arlington, TX most of my life. It was hard to find a parking spot. We were disappointed to find out the local steamboat/paddleboat recently sank and is no longer available for tours. Also, because it was the week after New Year's, many shops, restaurants, and museums were closed for an extended period of time - some all the way to Feb. 1st. I highly recommend calling first before going somewhere, if you're coming in January.

Oh, how a year changes all the good that a single place could ever have…read more As you all can see, I have consistently reviewed this place as an exceptional place to stay, but because of the unfortunate lack of care and attention to retaining long-term folk from current GM Kimberly the luster and beauty of a place can be so completely and utterly tarnished! Will admit our group was admonished for opening a door not properly marked as an emergency exit. After a second infraction I personally apologized and we shook hands and went on with an understanding from her that all was OK. Only to find out she reports to her board of this serious situation where we didn't obey her authority! Trust me the only situation here is the building in a violation of a state fire code that they don't want advertised. Very small and pedantic minded person to state we had no issue but after we have left and are miles away will in turn admonish you and abolish your reservation without any type of due process or knowledge other than the impersonal email. Absolutely abominable service behavior even if it wasn't towards decades long patrons. This new GM Kimberly is the complete antithesis of a service oriented person! She tells lies, will not resolve dangerous obstacles in patrons way, is not maintaining a good aesthetic to the building or grounds (overgrown vines and accumulating trash) and she does not fully report situations how they occurred. Very unprofessional! And to further show her lack of character, Kimberly invoked other long standing fine employees as part of the lie that she told her board. To the Garden Club: you to need to review the behaviors of your manager instead of revoking reservations. Maybe even ask around what Kimberly's nickname is amongst staff and citizens alike. Sad sad state of affairs at Excelsior. PS I write this in two states: having already spoken with Kimberly this morning trying to resolve this situation amicably and secondly fully knowing my reservation will be revoked too. I will certainly let you all know how this issue is further managed.
