I knew I…read morewanted to explore Caddo Lake and had originally planned to kayak, but given the weather and the expectation of rain we decided it's better to have someone explain the history and rich landscape to us while we relax (and hope it doesn't rain). Overall experience was superb! Starting from our call, we didn't book ahead of time but they were able to get us a boat tour in an hour. Upon arriving, they greeted us kindly with a warm welcome. Our boated tour did last an hour, with the tour guide entertaining my stepdad with fun facts about the lake and its inhabitants. We were told that gators are rare to see especially during the day. And yet throughout our trip, we saw multiple great egrets, blue herons, one gator, and one ratsnake! We were astonished at how much wildlife we observed. The trip lasted an hour. It poured rain about 20 minutes after the tour ended. Truthfully had we postponed it, it could've ruined my Caddo Lake experience. I'm really glad the timing worked so well for us!

This bayou is part lake, part river, part pond and all of it amazing. We got super lucky that we came off the water just as rain began and a storm was forming so the tours after pits god cancelled. I can't imagine that the periodic flooding is actually welcomed by locals to clean out the growth but they said it's lining up to be a flood year in 2027 so I'm so glad we got to check it out this year.

The building the bride and groom rented, Snug Harbor, wasn't the Ritz Carlton, but it had a great atmosphere for an informal wedding with lots of space and all the accommodations you would need for a weekend getaway like a stove and beds and baths and a washer-dryer. The yard out back was gigantic and featured a fishing pier, a lovely view of Caddo Lake, little pirogues and canoes with paddles, and a fire pit. The only thing you may have a problem with is that there are a lot of knick knacks inside the cabin and they may attract dust, but they looked pretty well dusted when we were there. I would highly recommend this spot for a short vacation or getaway. Uncertain is a FUN little town, the locals are the nicest people in East Texas, and Caddo lake is gorgeous. You can't see into it - it's about the color of coffee and not good for swimming, but if you love to fish or boat, Texas's only natural lake is a great place to go. There's also a convenience store a couple of houses down, a bar a few blocks away (bring your bike), a flea market nearby and great restaurants all around the lake. Also - the Testicle Festival was going on the weekend of the wedding. I don't know if that's a celebration for the consumption of testicles or the castration of animals or a meeting for testicle cancer survivors, but it sounds entertaining and you never know in Uncertain.

I will say that for the area it is probably the nicest thing you'll find other than one of the B&B's in Jefferson. The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows (a big plus). This is obviously an older home which has new carpets and somewhat new furniture. There is a washer and dryer by the kitchen with detergent so you can have all clean clothes when you go home if you wish. Their is a pier behind one of the cottages across the street that is open use for all who are staying at a "Hodge Podge" Cottage. Their are canoes/pirogues you can use as well, but I noticed that many passing in speed boats didn't care about keeping a low wake so it might not be the safest thing. So why only 3 stars? For just a couple of nights stay it was very nice, but I can't say I would return if I were in the area or if I wanted to stay longer than a weekend. Mainly the wifi they use is either old and not working with our current gadgets or just not that good. Or maybe it's the fact that there are only 2 connections and 8 cabins? Chances are you won't be able to use it. Also, if they can afford to charge over $100 a night for the cabins, then they should upgrade the VCR to a cheap DVD player and get rid of the boom-box with the cassette player. Like I said, for 2-nights it didn't matter too much. The tubs were stained and there was a ton of dust at the bottom of every wall. And last, the front of our cabin had the only RV hookup and there was an RV parked right in front of the bedroom window. This bedroom has a very thin curtain so my husband wound up hanging the blanket over the window so our "neighbors" couldn't see into the room. We would have stayed in the back bedroom but the bed is smaller, the curtains are sheer, and there is a bright light right outside that window!

Dinner and lunch here are NOT always an option (they do special events and seasonally open as a dinner restaurant) but breakfast was exceptional! From their famous tomato pie (savory tomato and melted cheese over a seasoned biscuit) to the quiche to the hash Potatoe casserole. It was all delicious and just enough.

The campsites themselves are big, spacious, and peaceful. There is a train that rolls through twice a night, but aside from that it's quiet and relaxing. Overall, we loved it and would absolutely come back.

Located on the Big Cypress Bayou, the scenery is gorgeous. Two years ago, we stayed in the Couple's Cabin. It has great upper and lower decks. This time, with Reesa and Ricky, we stayed in the Texas 2 Step. Dual connecting cabins. Loved it. There's also about 30 or 40 RV spots. There's a private boat ramp. Riverbend Outfitters keeps kayaks here for rent. We've gone kayaking twice. It's fun, relaxing, and beautiful. The owners are very friendly and attempt to solve any problem you might have. The cabins are big and comfortable. They have satellite tv and WiFi. A full kitchen makes mealtime easy. Be warned, cell service here is terrible. You are out in the middle of nowhere! The place had everything we needed, was very tidy, and had beautiful decor that made it feel cozy and welcoming. Mary and Bill were incredibly kind and sweet and truly made us feel at home. Bill took great care of us--he even drove us to the launch and picked us up afterward, which made the whole experience so easy and enjoyable. And as a bonus, I got onto some really nice fish! At the time, there happened to be a motorcycle rally in memory of a fallen motorcyclist and every hotel room in the area was booked. Through the magic of cell phone internet, I was able to book a cottage to get me off the iron horse and start a great evening of exploring Jefferson, Texas. I managed to be greeted by a great gentleman right around 4:20. He was extremely friendly and his hospitality was amazing. He made sure to provide me with any needs and information I had to make my stay extremely pleasant under the circumstances. I am looking forward to booking again this Summer and will insist on staying here again. I normally refuse to book anywhere I have already been in the spirit of trying something new but there is no where else in Jefferson that I can imagine staying.

The moment I was invited back for the Fall conference, I hopped onto Air BNB and booked us here again. Yay! The Three Sisters Cottages BNB is a trio of little cabins in historic Jefferson, Texas. (It would be a great place for 3 couples to come and stay because you'd each have your own cabin, but could share the fire pit in the middle.) The cabins are so cute and cozy inside! They feature every modern luxury, including WiFi that actually works, a/c, TV, and heat. Each one features a kitchenette with a coffee maker, frig, and microwave. The hosts (Tammy and Randy) are helpful and friendly. They make you feel special without being intrusive. They are easy to communicate with and respond quickly to emails and phone calls. As for the breakfast: It's delivered right to your door in the morning! Not only are the breakfasts tasty, but they are photogenic. Your friends will be jealous when they see those food pics on your social media. (Speaking of, if you're on Instagram, check out the Three Sisters Cottages account and you'll see what I mean!) So next time you and your partner need a weekend escape, give the Three Sisters Cottages a try!
