Absolutely wonderful stay. David and Tammy did an outstanding job of making sure every need was met, and Are also wonderful, fun people. I will absolutely be back.

    Dust ruffle

Property has untapped potential. Lots of improvements have been made with interior paint & flooring but hodgepodge decor, tired furnishings, and lack of a cohesive design element leave it lacking. For example, an expensive collection of signed guitars are showcased in huge glass cases throughout the public space??? It is the strangest of decors! My top criteria for a B&B: pristine cleanliness, a peaceful palette, comfortable bedding/bath linens, and plenty of hot water. In that order: this particular suite in desperate need of a deep cleaning. Faux foliage is PASSE, even if not dust covered and throughout the suite, that was the case. There are many hardy houseplants that are beneficial in 'cleaning the air' like philodendron varieties ... and they can go in the shower while beds are changed between guests. Light fixtures, fan blades, mantle, even the headboard were dusty - most surfaces in fact need to be 'touched' in their entirety. Casegoods need scratch cover & a good rubbing with Restor-a-Finish or similar product. From the stairwell fixture to the bedroom, lights/switch plates need some serious attention with cleaning & polishing. All curtains (polyester lace) need to be washed! Grime apparent, especially near door knobs of double doors to the tiny balcony and in the bathroom over shutters with louvres that need repair. The adjoining rooms were painted different colors; the bedroom choice a bit too 'saturated' (green) to be restful & the bath yellow. A softer sea foam would be more appealing. I'd suggest retiring the dust ruffle & not replacing it. The very worn kitschy quilt could be replaced with a white cotton matelasse coverlet. The faded, soiled rug is very dated in style. There are choices congruent with the period/style of the that would freshen the space considerably. A painted table with a Keurig coffee station could be replaced with a faux front piece that covers electrical outlets & unsightly cords visible underneath. The faux fireplace has three elements going: yellow 'fire brick', dark green tile surround & white painted mantle. Consider painting interior with a neutral color for aesthetics, remove tile that is just 'jarring' and do surround with faux marble or similar solid surface product. Replace chair with a fresher style or refinish/recover present one in a classy toile. There's room for two MATCHING chairs on the back wall if the armoire is switched. Consider adding bench at the foot of the bed as one chair is inadequate unless a single occupant. AND, it provides a place for unused bed coverings and pillows/shams. On that point, Comfy brand microfiber sheets are fine but BRING YOUR OWN PILLOW! Flattened, poly fill pillows would not fluff & resulted in poor sleep. The bathroom was poorly designed to optimize space. The shower could have been larger as there is wasted space and it is extremely small, both the door & the enclosure. There is a wonderful claw foot tub with plenty of hot water but the copper fittings need cleaning and a tub tray/bath caddy is needed as there is no place for soap but the adjacent window sill . The pedestal sink is too low, even for short people. Plush European style towels were great, as well as the Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and the robes are a nice touch but one was hung with a stained sleeve . An oddly unattractive and dusty bakers rack of sorts used for storage (blow dryer in a dusty basket and extra linens ) next to the sink should GO AWAY. Don't know how it could possibly be kept clean, even if it was attractive. It screams 'flea market find' and not in a good way. The folding luggage rack in the BR has gouged the wall & left unsightly damage to the dry wall behind it. The down time with the pandemic would have seemed an ideal time to get maintenance & deep cleaning done. It is, in fact, what other favorite properties did. HVAC vents are at either side of the bed headboard and need to be cleaned & repainted. There was a convenient small fridge with bottled water & soda. On to breakfasts. Friendly (if somewhat loud) proprietors share kitchen space with rather tight tables. It was uncomfortable considering international travelers with the Omicron variety looming. Taking a plate back to a suite without seating or going to the porch would have meant cold food, no hot coffee. While the menu was filling and substantial, it was not 'exceptional' as per some reviews; scrambled eggs (don't hold heat well in the best of circumstances), stuffed French toast - a dense bit of sweet bread akin to a casserole, underripe melon but excellent, crisp bacon. A coffee carafe and juice pitcher were in each table. If produce isn't at peak, it shouldn't be plated. Have fresh, assorted berries or hot fruit casserole as a ready substitute. As for the exterior of the property, it needs attention/maintenance. This property needs a design consultant in the worst ways to maximize the potential of this property in the most delightful town with the friendliest people.

Firstly - love a bed and breakfast that can seamlessly pair historic decor with modern touches such as a fridge stocked with refreshments, coffee available at all times of the day, wine openers and glasses available in the dining room and thoughtful led candles illuminating the staircase and a supply of tea, electric kettle and a microwave if you just so happen to bring your own popcorn. The pictures alone definitely showcase this thoughtfully decorated home with justice however what photographs and videos do not show you is the attentiveness and memories you'll make during your stay here. Staying at Benefield House really does feel like visiting old friends you've known for years and their names are Tommy & Nicole. They take such pride in the food cooked every morning and really open their hearts to everyone whom enters their home. To have the ability to create coziness without being intrusive and freedom to make your stay as inclusive or secluded as you wish is a fine art that they have definitely honed in with perfection. They are both so knowledgeable about the town and the history, so don't miss out on picking their brains for all the little details that might otherwise have been overlooked. My husband and I enjoyed staying up late with another couple that was staying in the B&B, drinking wine and chatting in the living area. The breakfasts were delicious and robust. Booking was as easy as could be, the location was right in the heart of Jefferson close to restaurants and shops, only about a half an hour drive to our boat tour guide of Caddo Lake, parking was a breeze, check out was simple, and honestly staying here was the corner stone that made this trip a huge success.

We simply needed a break. So, I drove in from my crazy Dallas work life to spend a couple nights at…read moreThe Benefield House B&B. Treat yourself....to kind, welcoming owners.
