I came here on a Sunday and their little coffee shop was closed. However, they leave free house coffee in a dispenser out in the hallway by the entrance. So if you happen to be nearby and in need of standard Java....

I've struggled for days on how many stars to give this hotel. There's so much wrong. For real. But there's some good. The Good: 1.The Hotel is haunted. My friend recorded footsteps. I felt someone sit on the bed with me (I was alone). I heard someone rustle paper (I was alone). 2. The young lady, Stephanie, who runs the hotels is so sweet. 3. The staff (Stephanie) keeps the place clean. 4. There is a coffee shop in the front and the coffee is very good. 5. I did get a coffee pot for the room when I asked. 6. The decorations were alright. I did like the purple comforter that was on my bed. 7. They have real soft bathroom rugs for the bathroom floor by the shower. 8. I loved the paint job in my room. There was one accent wall. The Bad: 1.The beds are hard and uncomfortable. 2.The pillows are too big and hard. I personally like flat pillows (think feather pillows). Most places have at least one flat pillow on the bed if there are a pile of pillows, (which there is). 3. The air conditioning is not controlled in the room and the guest has to tell the staff what temperature they want. 4. Much of the decor is not historic. For example, my friends room had a bedside lamp that is the same as ones I bought at Target in the last 10 years. 5. You can't bring food back to your room because there is no fridge or community kitchen or microwave. 6. I originally booked my room for one week night. When I called to change my reservation, I was not advised that it was going to be pricier because it was a weekend. Is have been done with it, but when I was budgeting I didn't have the information. 7. I was suppose to be charged a deposit (partial payment) several months ago and I wasn't. 8. There is a gorgeous door in the middle of the downstairs hallway and is covered up with paper. Either leave it open and let in the light, or go period and put up a curtain. This is just tacky. 9. At night the hall light downstairs is off. There's only one light switch, between rooms 104 and 105. So a person has to walk almost all the way down a dark hallway to turn on a light. 10. In Room 105 the hot water lasts less than 10 minutes. I had to rinse the soap out of my hair with cold water. About 45 minutes later I just turned the water on and let it run and it was exactly the same, so it wasn't fluke. All of this was between 4:45 am and 5:45 am. 11. The woman conducting the ghost tour sells the tickets outside the front door. If you show your ticket you receive 10% off a coffee / latte purchase. But you have to use it that night, you can't save it for in the morning 12. Room 203 had an authentic style piece of art on the wall (an old child's dress) but the picture in Room 105, even though I like it, was Mardi Gras and not at all in keeping with the times. The Indifferent: 1. There is a hole in the floor in 105, which a trash can is stuck in to cover the hole. I wanted to move the trash can and couldn't. 2. The staircase leading upstairs is enclosed because there is a law office next door and this causes the feel of authenticity to decrease. I wasn't bothered with way, but my friend was. 3. Because the bathroom and sink areas are separate, I think they should have an additional trash can in the rooms. 4. There needs to be an additional mirror in the room. There's only the bathroom mirror over the sink, but there's nothing in the room where you take a shower. 5. Room 205 did not have a dresser to unpack in, if a person was staying longer.

Some friends and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend and our stay was FANTASTIC. First of all, the young lady who works the front desk, Stephanie, is a rock star. She also cleans the rooms so she does it all. She called the late morning of the first night we were staying to let us know our room was ready if we wanted to check in early. We didn't ask- she just did it because she's awesome. She also recommended a place for us to have breakfast on Sunday morning. She always had a smile on her face and was willing to help out- if management is reading this, she deserves a raise! The Kahn Hotel is in an old building BUT has been many different things since the days of being a Saloon. It was a furniture store, newspaper office, lodge building (used by the Masons), and funeral home before it was renovated into a hotel. So obviously the inside has seen many changes over the last 150 years. It doesn't look exactly the way it did when it was built. The new owners did a great job with the renovations. Stephanie told us the flooring on the first floor is original (it was brought down from the second floor during renovations), but there are some modern additions (thankfully electricity, AC, indoor plumbing, and Wi-Fi). I loved our room- the decor was perfect. There is no AC control in the room, but we enjoyed the coolness and thankfully our comfortable beds had plenty of blankets to bundle up under. I'm sure if we had asked, Stephanie could have adjusted the temperature, but after spending all day walking around the beautiful town in the Texas heat, the cool room was a welcomed blessing. Our room had a mirror on the outside of the bathroom door, which was nice so one of us could do our makeup or hair while the other one was in the bathroom. There is no fridge in the room, but we had a cooler and the hotel provided ice located in the front lobby. It was perfect to keep our drinks and leftovers cool. If you stay on the weekend, I recommend the ghost tour that meets outside the front of the hotel. I think they meet Fridays and Saturdays only at 7:30. It's $20 and 100% worth it. You will learn more about the Kahn Hotel and its haunted history. The tour guide is amazing and very knowledgeable. The tour lasts about 2 hours. I would give this hotel more than five stars if I could. I will definitely be back to stay again!

I am a huge believer in the paranormal and had heard of Jefferson, TX as well as the Historic Kahn Saloon from stories and cable tv shows. While riding cross-country, I had googles towns in Texas to visit, and when Jefferson came up, I immediately knew that I wanted to stay at Kahn Saloon (Kahn happens to be my maiden name, so it was the only hotel that I was interested in staying in. The hotel is small, with a handful of rooms upstairs, and even less downstairs, and each room is uniquely and beautifully furnished and decorated to reflect the 19th century era. When you book your reservation, whether through the hotel direct or through a 3rd-party site, I love that you are able to choose which room you'd like, based on availability. The day that I booked, I messaged the hotel to inform them of my early evening arrival and Melanie, the owner and "inn-keeper" immediately responded. She was so accommodating and said that even if she was not on site, to text her when I'd be arriving, and she would come meet me for check-in (she was sweet enough to even give me her cell for convenience). Jefferson's downtown area is so eccentric, with everything from antique shops to psychic shops and restaurants to saloons, yet it still has the quiet, small-town vibe to it. I actually met more locals than I did tourists (granted, it WAS a Monday night). All the locals are so nice and welcoming, and everyone seems to know each other. Back to the hotel. There is very positive, feel-good, mainstream music that plays at a very respectful volume continuously throughout the day and night. After the town was asleep, I was outside, and i even found the music lightly echoing up and down the vacant street relaxing and peaceful. Melanie is such an angel. She was very easy to talk to and was very attentive to my needs. When I told her that I had been riding my motorcycle cross-country, she didn't hesitate for a second to offer me use of her washer/dryer. When I checked in, despite having chosen a room during booking, Melanie showed me other available rooms and allowed me to choose whichever one I wanted. I actually switched over to the end room (Room 204), as Melanie informed me that this room tended to have more paranormal activity. Although decorated to reflect the late 1800's- early 1900's, the rooms are still updated to include modern, luxury fixtures and toiletries, including a large, flatscreen tv.. My bed was soooo comfortable and the linens and towels were super soft. The shower is large and modernized and shower pressure is great. At night time the hotel was very quiet, as was the area surrounding the hotel. There is a small coffee shop/tea bar in the lobby area for the public, but Melanie offers complementary coffee to the guests. While you're visiting Kahn Saloon, make sure to allow time during the day to check out all of the quaint shops around town, as well as some of the great restaurants/ bars. Bring your cameras bc the architecture of the homes in the area will make you feel like you've truly taken a step back in time. Lastly, on Friday and Saturday nights, there is a paranormal ghost tour that convenes in front of the hotel If my travels ever have me near to Jefferson, TX again, I will absolutely be staying at the Historic Kahn Hotel once again. Thank you Melanie for the amazing hospitality!

The new owners are inviting, friendly and fun and I couldn't be more pleased with our stay here. This hotel is for the one who wants to experience something that goes beyond the norm.. the laid back atmosphere despite being completely unconventional makes you feel like you are at home away from home. Pam and Jeromy go to great extents to make certain you are happy and comfortable during your stay. I couldn't get enough of this hotel! Every where we walked there was something new to see! I must have walked through 5 times and each time I saw something new and different! Additionally there is a story to almost every piece that the couple has collected and strategically placed in the hotel! Our stay put us here on New Years Eve in which we were delighted to learn there was a small NYE party in the Ballroom and it was a BLAST! Jeromy is a man of many gifts and talents and personally DJ'd the entire event! The music was fantastic and appealed to the the variety of people that were staying at the hotel this weekend! This couple has an amazing energy that makes everything they do FUN!! SO moving along to our accommodations- We stayed in two rooms as we wanted to experience more then one of the uniquely themed rooms, both were fabulous! The TV in the rooms include a smart TV so there are plenty of viewing options, the linens were crisp and clean, and the hot water was hot! The beds were very comfortable and despite the claims of ghosts and spirits that linger about this known haunted hotel we slept wonderful!!! The first night we stayed in the circus room there were clowns and vintage memorabilia it was bright and fun and maybe a bit creepy but we enjoyed it! The second night we stayed downstairs in a more traditional room it had a Victorian feel and was warm and cozy! Pam greeted us with a smile and made sure we enjoyed our stay when we checked out. I also want to mention that the hotel is conveniently located directly across from a wonderful little coffee shop and a scenic nature trail, so upon waking we partook in lattes and a quaint little walk. The town of Jefferson is a historical town with colonial and Victorian homes a general store and several neat little antique and other shops to visit so much to do and see during the day on your visit. I highly recommend you visit this hotel if you are looking for a fun, interesting and unique experience! It will make for a fun little weekend adventure! Although we didn't participate in the ghost tour or the "disappointments room" we heard much chatter of it and may have to see what it's all about on our next visit! Hoping that to be MARDI GRAS! I will mention that they book up fast so if your interested in visiting near a holiday or special event reserve your room early! Thank you Pam and Jeromy for giving us memorable experience going into 2021!

Will admit our group was admonished for opening a door not properly marked as an emergency exit. After a second infraction I personally apologized and we shook hands and went on with an understanding from her that all was OK. Only to find out she reports to her board of this serious situation where we didn't obey her authority! Trust me the only situation here is the building in a violation of a state fire code that they don't want advertised. Very small and pedantic minded person to state we had no issue but after we have left and are miles away will in turn admonish you and abolish your reservation without any type of due process or knowledge other than the impersonal email. Absolutely abominable service behavior even if it wasn't towards decades long patrons. This new GM Kimberly is the complete antithesis of a service oriented person! She tells lies, will not resolve dangerous obstacles in patrons way, is not maintaining a good aesthetic to the building or grounds (overgrown vines and accumulating trash) and she does not fully report situations how they occurred. Very unprofessional! And to further show her lack of character, Kimberly invoked other long standing fine employees as part of the lie that she told her board. To the Garden Club: you to need to review the behaviors of your manager instead of revoking reservations. Maybe even ask around what Kimberly's nickname is amongst staff and citizens alike. Sad sad state of affairs at Excelsior. PS I write this in two states: having already spoken with Kimberly this morning trying to resolve this situation amicably and secondly fully knowing my reservation will be revoked too. I will certainly let you all know how this issue is further managed.

We had no idea there would not be any housekeeping services during our 3 night stay, we took our own trash down to the reception to be emptied, we had to ask for towels and carry them up to our room; the room needs dusting; the door facings are dirty with finger prints; the mattress is terrible and needs to be replaced as it sags in the middle; the pillows are of poor quality; there is no place to hang clothes. Our room is the Hayes Room which overlooks the roof and A/C unit. The real issue is our disappointment not to find all that your website promises. The room rate was quite expensive!
