Amazing place to stay for anyone who likes the oddities and antiques. Ghost hunters and antique collectors will be fascinated by the decor and atmosphere. Beware that you may encounter a ghost, even if you don't believe ! This hotel is near all the local Hotspot, so it is perfect for a getaway. Note: this isn't a Hilton, so be prepared to take a bath instead of a shower and don't stay here if you are a snob....they offer a comfortable, amazing experience, that you surely will not forget

I had wanted to stay at the Jefferson for a while and was very excited to do so on this trip to Texas. We were not able to get to the hotel until around 10 pm and so we called ahead and they gave us the code to the door to get in, and left our key on the counter. This is a historic hotel and is said to be haunted hotel in the centre of town. The hotel has an eerie vibe to it when you walk in - almost like an other worldly presence. It is decorated in antiques and vintage items. The room was spacious but definitely out of date. The toilet had some difficulties flushing and the room was hot (the AC did not work too well). We did not experience any hauntings in the night but still a very cool place to experience. It has a nice balcony too overlooking some historic buildings in the town. I stayed at the Jefferson again and this time stayed in room 1 which I really liked as it is rather big. Room 19 is meant to be the most haunted room in the hotel. Again no hauntings other than the ceiling fan turned on by itself when we were out of the room. The hotel management really needs to replace some of the towels -- it's never impressive when they are threadbare or have holes in them.

This is the first picture we took of our room you can look up in the top right hand corner and noticed there's a mirror.

I was there with my bonus son and his family on Friday night the 24th and we had a blast! I have a couple of pictures where I saw a couple of things. The beds were wonderful we slept so good. The owners are fantastic. And there's no way you can look at everything in that building. Every time we went to a same floor we've been on before we saw more things that we hadn't seen before. I would recommend it to anybody anytime go and have you some fun! I'm TJ Carter from Longview Texas

It's been a little while since I last stayed here, and to an extent this is a review of a memory, but not such a distant one that it's stale. I thought of the Jefferson Hotel last week as I slept to the music of freight trains in Truckee. Not because the Jefferson has so much in common with the Truckee structurally or aesthetically, more because they both hail from a bygone era. And they're both haunted. Jefferson is a sweet little East Texas town. They host an annual quilt show and a steam train (haunted). Quaint shops, tasty bites, gateway to a bayou paradise. Nearby Caddo Lake formed first by a logjam, then by the Army Corps, backs Red River water into one of the largest stand of cypress in the world (Big Cypress Bayou). I experienced Caddo first from a shotgun shack in Uncertain, TX, then when the chigger bites got too bad, from a place more genteel. In the day, Jefferson was a port city, and the Jefferson was the place to stay. It still is. Radius test - if you like swamps and history and a little haunting, Jefferson, its hotel and environs is worth a trip from anywhere in the United States. If you're too citified you may as well just stay home. Not hatin. Just sayin.

My wife and I wanted a getaway to a haunted hotel and this place did NOT disappoint! The new owners are so very kind and cool! We stayed in room 16, and were visited in the wee hours of the morning by two children (spirits). Kinda strange feeling like someone is climbing into the bed with you, but it was a cool experience! We plan on returning here with friends.

We stayed in The Jefferson Hotel almost 10 years ago and loved it and the town so much that we wanted to come back for a weekend getaway. We were excited to hear the hotel had been bought by Pam and Jeremy and that they were doing remodeling- We were actually able to stay during some of the remodeling which was neat!! They told us about the plans for the hotel and I cannot wait to come back and see it when it's finished! Pam, Jeremy and their girls are so sweet and accommodating- they made our stay fun and comfortable. It was actually my birthday during our stay and they went out of their way to make it a special weekend for me. Thank you so much and see you again soon!!!

For my daughter's 18th birthday she wanted to take a road trip and stay in a "haunted hotel". Jefferson is a lovely city, one that young and old can enjoy. The hotel is beautiful, as if time stood still, steeped in a long ago time. An antique lover's dream come true. The hotel staff was so nice and friendly, helping us figure out where to go and how to get there. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable. I am giving it 5 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, even though I did not sleep a wink. If you are looking for a haunted adventure this place will not disappoint, and room 19 is certainly all the hype! Very reasonable cost wise as well. My daughter was tickled to death, mission accomplished!

EXCELLENT visit here. Everyone we met is extremely kind and the rooms are true to the time period. The balcony was a blast and it is within walking distance of everything you could want to do. Highly recommend.

Very cozy and nestled in the nicest town ever. It's closer to being a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The rooms and halls are filled with antiques. If you're looking for luxury this isn't really your place, but if you're bored with chain hotels give it a try. My husband and I didn't really have any ghostly encounters, but the place does have nice spook appeal with its creaky floors and old time tubs.

Will admit our group was admonished for opening a door not properly marked as an emergency exit. After a second infraction I personally apologized and we shook hands and went on with an understanding from her that all was OK. Only to find out she reports to her board of this serious situation where we didn't obey her authority! Trust me the only situation here is the building in a violation of a state fire code that they don't want advertised. Very small and pedantic minded person to state we had no issue but after we have left and are miles away will in turn admonish you and abolish your reservation without any type of due process or knowledge other than the impersonal email. Absolutely abominable service behavior even if it wasn't towards decades long patrons. This new GM Kimberly is the complete antithesis of a service oriented person! She tells lies, will not resolve dangerous obstacles in patrons way, is not maintaining a good aesthetic to the building or grounds (overgrown vines and accumulating trash) and she does not fully report situations how they occurred. Very unprofessional! And to further show her lack of character, Kimberly invoked other long standing fine employees as part of the lie that she told her board. To the Garden Club: you to need to review the behaviors of your manager instead of revoking reservations. Maybe even ask around what Kimberly's nickname is amongst staff and citizens alike. Sad sad state of affairs at Excelsior. PS I write this in two states: having already spoken with Kimberly this morning trying to resolve this situation amicably and secondly fully knowing my reservation will be revoked too. I will certainly let you all know how this issue is further managed.

We had no idea there would not be any housekeeping services during our 3 night stay, we took our own trash down to the reception to be emptied, we had to ask for towels and carry them up to our room; the room needs dusting; the door facings are dirty with finger prints; the mattress is terrible and needs to be replaced as it sags in the middle; the pillows are of poor quality; there is no place to hang clothes. Our room is the Hayes Room which overlooks the roof and A/C unit. The real issue is our disappointment not to find all that your website promises. The room rate was quite expensive!

At the time, there happened to be a motorcycle rally in memory of a fallen motorcyclist and every hotel room in the area was booked. Through the magic of cell phone internet, I was able to book a cottage to get me off the iron horse and start a great evening of exploring Jefferson, Texas. I managed to be greeted by a great gentleman right around 4:20. He was extremely friendly and his hospitality was amazing. He made sure to provide me with any needs and information I had to make my stay extremely pleasant under the circumstances. I am looking forward to booking again this Summer and will insist on staying here again. The moment I was invited back for the Fall conference, I hopped onto Air BNB and booked us here again. Yay! The Three Sisters Cottages BNB is a trio of little cabins in historic Jefferson, Texas. (It would be a great place for 3 couples to come and stay because you'd each have your own cabin, but could share the fire pit in the middle.) The cabins are so cute and cozy inside! They feature every modern luxury, including WiFi that actually works, a/c, TV, and heat. Each one features a kitchenette with a coffee maker, frig, and microwave. The hosts (Tammy and Randy) are helpful and friendly. They make you feel special without being intrusive. They are easy to communicate with and respond quickly to emails and phone calls. As for the breakfast: It's delivered right to your door in the morning! Not only are the breakfasts tasty, but they are photogenic.
