This hotel has been on my bucket list for a long time. I do ghost hunting for fun. I haven't seen any here yet. Have one more night to take a bunch of photos to try and see something. While I was setting up equipment on 1st night here. Had my sprit box going. It said ghost and then said infrared Which at that time, I was hooking up my infrared to my camera. This is an eclectic and unique boutique hotel that has oddities and unique finds and treasures around every corner.. as you enter the lobby of the Jefferson hotel you will be overwhelmed by the variety of antiques and trinkets that make this hotel such a cool place to visit! The new owners are inviting, friendly and fun and I couldn't be more pleased with our stay here. This hotel is for the one who wants to experience something that goes beyond the norm.. the laid back atmosphere despite being completely unconventional makes you feel like you are at home away from home. Pam and Jeromy go to great extents to make certain you are happy and comfortable during your stay. I couldn't get enough of this hotel! Every where we walked there was something new to see! I must have walked through 5 times and each time I saw something new and different! Additionally there is a story to almost every piece that the couple has collected and strategically placed in the hotel! Our stay put us here on New Years Eve in which we were delighted to learn there was a small NYE party in the Ballroom and it was a BLAST! Jeromy is a man of many gifts and talents and personally DJ'd the entire event! The music was fantastic and appealed to the the variety of people that were staying at the hotel this weekend! This couple has an amazing energy that makes everything they do FUN!! SO moving along to our accommodations- We stayed in two rooms as we wanted to experience more then one of the uniquely themed rooms, both were fabulous! The TV in the rooms include a smart TV so there are plenty of viewing options, the linens were crisp and clean, and the hot water was hot! The beds were very comfortable and despite the claims of ghosts and spirits that linger about this known haunted hotel we slept wonderful!!! The first night we stayed in the circus room there were clowns and vintage memorabilia it was bright and fun and maybe a bit creepy but we enjoyed it! The second night we stayed downstairs in a more traditional room it had a Victorian feel and was warm and cozy! Pam greeted us with a smile and made sure we enjoyed our stay when we checked out. I also want to mention that the hotel is conveniently located directly across from a wonderful little coffee shop and a scenic nature trail, so upon waking we partook in lattes and a quaint little walk. The town of Jefferson is a historical town with colonial and Victorian homes a general store and several neat little antique and other shops to visit so much to do and see during the day on your visit. I highly recommend you visit this hotel if you are looking for a fun, interesting and unique experience! It will make for a fun little weekend adventure! Although we didn't participate in the ghost tour or the "disappointments room" we heard much chatter of it and may have to see what it's all about on our next visit! Hoping that to be MARDI GRAS! I will mention that they book up fast so if your interested in visiting near a holiday or special event reserve your room early! The Jefferson Hotel is amazing and still a work in progress. If it's this great and still being renovated it will be phenomenal! I wish I could give 10 stars! The owners, Jeremy and Pam live on site. Jeremy had worked on building equipment for ghost hunting shows. They are both as nice a the day is long. They leave the doors open to the unoccupied rooms so you can see them all. Every room has its own character, including a doll room, a toy / clown room, a nautical room, etc. I stayed in the room where a suicide and a murder took place, and it is haunted. I have video of a swirling white fog at the bottom of my bed. Also my door shut BY ITSELF. My eyeliner rolled up hill (anti-gravity here). And then somehow my eyeliner got moved onto the other side of my makeup case (someone had to move it). My bed was store comfortable and the sheets are 1800 thread count Egyptian cotton (sarcophagi and cotton). I slept wonderfully. My friends stayed in the doll room and they said the chair rocked by itself. Also, the one of the dolls hands moved. They have a kuerig downstairs with coffee, tea and hot chocolate. While I was drinking coffee and taking my vitamins, when I was the only person up (I've tend to rise early) ONE of the lights turned on by itself. The owners are antique collectors extraordinaire and have antiques all over the house, in cubby holes in furniture in the hall, on the back of the sink in my room, etc. They have such neat things as an Egyptian sarcophagus, a 1900s telephone, and a Chuckie doll. There is also a fill in the middle of the upstairs hallway floor with a light on. It was found between the floors when the owners were looking through a camera. How cool is that!? The porch goes halfway around the building upstairs, and would be a lovely place to do coffee or wine on in better weather. The ballroom has come a long way and they hope to have a restaurant up within a few months. When I just looked at it in September it was filled with stuff. There are rooms that can sleep 6 (3 double beds) and rooms for 1-2,(one double bed) and everything in between. The prices are reasonable. Great place to stay read more

I had wanted to stay at the Jefferson for a while and was very excited to do so on this trip to Texas. We were not able to get to the hotel until around 10 pm and so we called ahead and they gave us the code to the door to get in, and left our key on the counter. This is a historic hotel and is said to be haunted hotel in the centre of town. The hotel has an eerie vibe to it when you walk in - almost like an other worldly presence. It is decorated in antiques and vintage items. The room was spacious but definitely out of date. The toilet had some difficulties flushing and the room was hot (the AC did not work too well). We did not experience any hauntings in the night but still a very cool place to experience. It has a nice balcony too overlooking some historic buildings in the town. I stayed at the Jefferson again and this time stayed in room 1 which I really liked as it is rather big. Room 19 is meant to be the most haunted room in the hotel. Again no hauntings other than the ceiling fan turned on by itself when we were out of the room. The hotel management really needs to replace some of the towels -- it's never impressive when they are threadbare or have holes in them. read more

BED BUGS!!! My wife and I spent one night here. We stayed in room 8, it seemed like it would be a nice getaway. The day after we got back home we both started having red bites show up all over us. Mainly on our torso's. We both ended up on antibiotics and spent weeks treating them, we also had to spend a couple hundred dollars to treat our house to mark sure none came home with us. I tried to let the owner know. He wouldn't even talk to me and threatened to sue me if I told anyone. Pretty crazy!! read more

I have been a patron of the Jefferson Hotel the last twenty years-and have stayed at least 6 times with no issues. I came to the website to book our annual girls weekend and I was gob-smacked. Now, with the new ownership, this once quaint and simple historic hotel has been turned into a circus museum. I noticed this when visiting the website to book another reservation. I'm appalled! The rooms are absolutely CLUTTERED with antiques and other strange objects. The hotel puts the Louvre Museum to shame! I understand setting a theme for a room-but to over kill the theme with pure clutter is repulsive (Chef Gordon Ramsey says the same thing about clutter in a business). Where would I put my things with the dresser stacked from one end to the other with endless bric-a-brac? On the bed? I can't sit in the side chair-a huge grotesque monkey has claimed it. The new owners have turned what was once a nostalgic, quaint, historic building into a side-show circus museum. The rooms no longer carry the nostalgic, charming appeal of yesteryear they once did or take you back in time. When you walk in and gaze down the hall it looks like the aftermath of a tornado hitting an antiques fair. Once beautiful rooms-and the walls are now stuffed with so much clutter. This hotel is now only a place to show off hundreds of antiques. I love antiques and curious objects but I'd go to a museum if I wanted to see this many. People need a little room to move around in the room they booked. Sometimes it's best not to fix something that wasn't broke to begin with. A side note-be sure to read the new owner rules-if you even SMELL like smoke and not air out before you come into this horror show you will get hit with a $500. charge on your card! They have all kinds of gizmos and monitors that will beep and flash which are carefully articulated in the polices section that will go off inside to protect their precious clutter (can one really transfer the fading smell of smoke to a tin cup?) What if I accidentally back into one of your priceless objet d'art because the rooms are so cluttered and it breaks? Or knock something off a cluttered hall wall due to a simple misstep? Will I be charged another $500.? No thanks. After seeing the website and the horrid and ghastly renovations and insane new written by a bully policies in capital letters, I'll pass. I understand the need to protect your priceless objects but it could be written in a kinder manner- it comes across as very patronizing and condescending. I have since booked a room at the Excelsior which I also enjoy very much. I am truly heartbroken I can no longer patronize this once fine, quaint, histor hotel. Please fire your interior decorator. The best things in life are simple things -and a little humility. read more

It's been a little while since I last stayed here, and to an extent this is a review of a memory, but not such a distant one that it's stale. I thought of the Jefferson Hotel last week as I slept to the music of freight trains in Truckee. Not because the Jefferson has so much in common with the Truckee structurally or aesthetically, more because they both hail from a bygone era. And they're both haunted. Jefferson is a sweet little East Texas town. They host an annual quilt show and a steam train (haunted). Quaint shops, tasty bites, gateway to a bayou paradise. Nearby Caddo Lake formed first by a logjam, then by the Army Corps, backs Red River water into one of the largest stand of cypress in the world (Big Cypress Bayou). I experienced Caddo first from a shotgun shack in Uncertain, TX, then when the chigger bites got too bad, from a place more genteel. In the day, Jefferson was a port city, and the Jefferson was the place to stay. It still is. Radius test - if you like swamps and history and a little haunting, Jefferson, its hotel and environs is worth a trip from anywhere in the United States. If you're too citified you may as well just stay home. Not hatin. Just sayin. read more

We stayed in The Jefferson Hotel almost 10 years ago and loved it and the town so much that we wanted to come back for a weekend getaway. We were excited to hear the hotel had been bought by Pam and Jeremy and that they were doing remodeling- We were actually able to stay during some of the remodeling which was neat!! They told us about the plans for the hotel and I cannot wait to come back and see it when it's finished! Pam, Jeremy and their girls are so sweet and accommodating- they made our stay fun and comfortable. For my daughter's 18th birthday she wanted to take a road trip and stay in a "haunted hotel". Jefferson is a lovely city, one that young and old can enjoy. The hotel is beautiful, as if time stood still, steeped in a long ago time. An antique lover's dream come true. The hotel staff was so nice and friendly, helping us figure out where to go and how to get there. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable. I am giving it 5 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, even though I did not sleep a wink. If you are looking for a haunted adventure this place will not disappoint, and room 19 is certainly all the hype! Very reasonable cost wise as well. I was promised a spooky ghost. Let me be clear, I did see a ghost but it was not a SPOOKY ghost. I spent the night in the most haunted room (#19) where I witnessed an apparition, but it was just some lady in white walking around doing normal maid stuff.. more annoying than scary. They are working on renovations but that didn't stop us from getting the full experience. 10/10 creepy & room 19 was all the hype, I barely got any sleep I was so scared and heard noises all night. Were I to write this review on the first night of our stay, I'd have given this place two stars. My God, it was loud. Groups of idiots ran up and down the halls, shouting and guffawing like Jefferson is the big city and this was their first night away from Ma and Pa. There are problems with the Jefferson Hotel. For starters, the upstairs hallway is a bowling alley, a voluminous, echoing space plagued with acoustics that are downright cruel for anyone interested in falling asleep before midnight. And on that first evening, there would be no hope of that. Second, the hotel has an unusual staffing model. And by that I mean when 6 pm rolls around, there is none until 8 the next morning. That's right...no staff on premises at night. Got a complaint or an emergency? They give you two local phone numbers to call. So when it came to reporting the noise of that first evening, we came to realize that this bizarre set-up serves as something of a deterrent to reporting problems. I mean, who wants to pull some staffer from his bed in the middle of the night to report a noise problem? And with the on-again, off-again nature of these outbursts, who's to say the manager will hear it once they finally arrive? It makes you think more than twice about calling someone. Third, the place is showing its age, and not entirely in a good way. From the outside, the Jefferson Hotel is a looker. Its pale green stucco exterior, black trim and black wrought iron balcony all work together to present an elegant visage. But once in the rooms, furniture lacks hardware, paint is splattered on cracked, taped windows, and bathroom vent fans don't work. "Deferred maintenance," I believe is the term. Fourth, the hotel is located two doors from the county jail. That alone isn't an issue, but on our third and final evening, an alarm repeatedly sounded from that direction, suggesting that the county jail might have suddenly been rendered one or two inmates short. Not comforting. Did I mention that guests sleep in the hotel without any staff on the property? There are strengths, however. The location is excellent, in the heart of historic Jefferson and across the street from The Bakery, an outstanding breakfast spot. Our room overlooked a pretty courtyard and fountain -- a little square maintained by county jail inmates. Parking is free and easy to find, and staff members, when they're on site, are friendly and helpful. Lemache's, an Italian restaurant, is located adjacent to the hotel and we did enjoy a good meal there. All in all, however, if I had it to do over again, I'd opt to stay at one of the beautiful B&Bs in town. As I mentioned to a couple we met in Jefferson, I l like to sleep at night. I'm so annoyed with the people that review this hotel and complain about the hand held shower, the cracks in the walls, the dirty carpet, the slanting floor, etc, etc. Is all of that true? Hell yah, it's true! It's freakin nearly 200 years old! What the heck do you expect?! Don't come here if you only appreciate history and nostalgia from a distance. It's not for you. There is a difference between old and unclean. I find this hotel beautiful and charming. It is clean. The beds are comfortable. The staff are helpful and friendly. While speaking with one of the housekeepers I did learn that the heartbroken bride did hang herself in rooms 14 & 15, back then it was one room. She follows her bed, which is now in room 19. Rooms 5 and 6 are often reporting hearing noises and children laughing. We stayed in room 5. We didn't hear any unexplained noises, but we did catch some orbs in our photos. fun fun! read more

Very cozy and nestled in the nicest town ever. It's closer to being a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The rooms and halls are filled with antiques. If you're looking for luxury this isn't really your place, but if you're bored with chain hotels give it a try. My husband and I didn't really have any ghostly encounters, but the place does have nice spook appeal with its creaky floors and old time tubs. read more

One of the funniest experiences! This historic hotel is intriguing and equally beautiful in its own unique way. The hotel has layers upon layers of history AND mystery. The new owners, Jeromy and Pam Jones have done an AMAZING job of transforming this historical hotel into an unforgettable experience. There are many themed rooms that offer a "creative" way to experience the history and mystery surrounding this hotel. Went on a ghost hunting investigation hoping to capture something weird. We stayed in the highly rated room 19. We had 2 cameras setup to capture motion and sound. Multiple motion detection devices along with additional voice recorders and was highly disappointed we didn't capture anything. Hotel was awesome like going back in time because everything is antique everywhere! Go here for a get away not for the ghost because we didn't see anything. Bathtub turned itself on because faucet was old and water pressure behind it caused knob to slowly rotate. Mirror on dresser was highly discolored so if you stare at it long enough you will see something but that is just like looking at the clouds for a long time -- you will eventually see something. read more

Jefferson hotel is so bad. Our room had a filthy carpet, cracks in the ceiling, the bathroom was just a hand held shower sprayer with no way to hand it up on the wall. I know it is antic but it's time to refurbish. Not worth the money. read more

We went to Jefferson specifically to stay in this hotel and go on the Ghost Walk. We were so excited because we had heard this was the place to stay. This place has great potential but it is run down. It is sooooo dirty. So dirty. Dust so thick. There was hair all over the sheets. There is no way these rooms get cleaned. It was so disappointing. If it were cleaned up it would be a nice place to stay but I could not enjoy my time because I could not get past the nastiness. We had to go to Walmart to get our own sheets and pillows just to be able to SIT on the beds because it was so awfully dirty. read more

Note, the Ghost tour starts across the street and is AWESOME.. And of course, the Jefferson Hotel is on the ghost tour. We stayed in room 10 and didnt encounter an ghosts, but the room could use some work. The toilet flush sounded a freight train horn ( maybe it is haunted ) ? The room has a window AC which keeps you comfortable, but it blows right onto you in the bed. You have to stay in the Jefferson Hotel during any visit to Jefferson since its part of history. The staff is friendly, but a bit of touch with 'things to do' in Jefferson which is a bit weird since Jefferson is a 'tourist town.' read more

We stayed for 2 nights in the middle of the week just for a short getaway and to celebrate my husband's birthday. The staff is very sweet and accommodating. We loved our room and the bed was very comfy. Their was a small group of loud women "ghost hunting" in the room directly across the hallway from our room, but even at 1am, I thought this was funny rather then irritating and my husband slept through the whole thing. I love the town and everyone is very nice. We want to visit again! read more

If you want to have an experience you have GOT to stay here. We have been there for the last 4-5 years and every year there is always something. If it weren't for us having to sleep we would stay up longer to experience even more. It is amazing and an experience that you can only dream of. The people are so sweet and remember you when you come back. The location is by far the best! Walking distance to everything you need and want to do. The town itself is everyone's favorite no matter who we take and they fall in love with it. So layed back and relaxing. Slow down, take it easy, eat great meals and if you want experience something scarry to some but a blessing to others. read more

We stayed here last weekend and it was an experience. It is old with many beautiful treasures. We didn't mind the hand held shower or the crackling when stepping on the wooden floor. The carpets could use some cleaning though. We stayed in room 7 with no encounters with ghosts but the tour was awesome. Great stay!! read more
