The standard menu items feature delicious selections such as stuffed French toast, mex Benny, Norwegian cakes. Daily specials include entrees like steak or salmon with eggs or pork shoulder with hash browns. I was impressed with the high quality of the meat (I rarely eat steak, but this was tender). The jalapeño pepper sauce drizzle is great. Even the toast and coffee is top notch. This is worth seeking out. We've enjoyed meals in great diners from Vermont to California. But the Delta Diner is the best Diner experience so far. The place is out by itself, in the woods, next to the highway. The staff is genuinely welcoming, and the menu is truly unique. We had the Mexican Eggs Benedict & the Grilled Whitefish with an almond-caper sauce. Both were fantastic. Stopped in here after a hike in the Chequamegon-Nicolet Forest. It is definitely a hidden gem. A family favorite!! Missed burger Monday's this year. Had to venture out - shared fish and a pancake between the two of us. Typing the combo makes me cringe, but they were both phenomenal in their own ways. They take the tipping out of the equation (get the full story from the staff) and pay their folks a better wage. Started our trip home an hour later so we could stop by for some breakfast and coffee on our way out, ended up wasting that time, coulda been an hour closer if we hadn't taken the time to stop, big disappointment, and it's not like it's close to anything else, so if you make the trip here you need to be committed. "Driving, driving, and driving some more..." If a bright ray of sunshine shone down 30 minutes south of Ashland, this silver bullet of goodness would beam to all lost foodies in the woods of northern WI. Watch for it. Go to it. We had onion rings and fried Macaroni and cheese, and these last two were from Sysco- watched Jonny shake them from the bag into the fryer. Very disappointing. I am a big fan of breakfast and really love pancakes. The Norwegian pancakes at DD are pretty special because of their thinness & the Jalapenos in the cake itself. There is enough food here to fill up a very full stomach. The food is made with love and care. This isn't just a greasy spoon restaurant, they make some creative and healthy dishes. The rest of the breakfast menu on this sunday sounded pretty amazing. They have a few options for vegetarians but not many for gluten free. The service at the DD was pretty amazing. Super nice server who explains the menu on the wall to every table. Fast service despite being very busy, I'm impressed. YES, just yes. Heard about this place from a coworker and SO glad we did. We got there about 9am on a Sunday, expecting the wait to be really long. Waited about half an hour then got a booth. Love the idea of a no-tip restaurant with the tips added on to the price of the food. We got the Pedro's Mex Benny (with a hot cake) and a special: stuffed hashbrowns with pork shoulder (with a pancake). It was the best breakfast I've ever tasted- and I am picky. The place was extremely busy but the service was still fast, efficient, and very friendly. This was our first time here so the waitress spent the huge amount of extra time with us explaining everything. It was so good we even made the drive back in the afternoon for the Jamaican Tapshack AND for the ice cream at Taste Budz. AWESOME! read more

Driving to Bayfield, Wisconsin in my '48 Ford Por-Street F-1 Pickup truck in September, I made a special point to stop at Delta Diner, that I saw featured on television. At 3 mpg, it was an investment in time and money. And I'm here to let you know, I wasn't at all disappointed. The owners were fun to talk to, the food was even better than I was told it would be before I got there. The area was magnificent to look at. I'd have to say it was the most perfect trip I'd taken in years. It was every bit as pleasant at my time in Washburn, and Bayfield, Wisconsin. The entire experience was top shelf. Fantastic! I had business right down the road, otherwise I probably would never have made it here. It really is in the middle of nowhere, like, you wouldn't even be passing by and just stop in. Really unique--no tipping, they start the staff at $15/hour, a "verbal" menu. Not a lot of selections, mostly breakfast. Great food for being in the middle of nowhere! I recommend going later in the day (like 2:00pm - 4-00pm) otherwise you will most likely have to wait an hour. Visited the Delta Diner for my fourth and last time. I remember our first visit 5 years ago being fantastic...so much so that we've made it a tradition to visit on our return home from Madeline Island every visit. This visit felt different and really left me more annoyed than anything. "The Hostess" (Mary) seemed really put out because two people from our party had to run back to the car to grab sweatshirts because it was like a meat locker in there. The other two from our group needed to use the restroom before sitting down, which really seemed to annoy everyone. Mind you there were only two other full tables there, so it wasn't like there was a huge line of people waiting to get seated and served. "The Server" (Tyler or Taylor, can't remember) read us the menu in a very robotic, "Alexia" type tone. He was friendly enough, I guess....but it was very forced and didn't feel natural. How hard is it really to print out one or two menus and have them at the table for your patrons to read for themselves? I get that your menu might change and you might run out of things, so tell us that if and when it happens, or have an "86" board for us to read. I find it completely annoying to have a server read to me, then proceed to repeat the same exact, memorized shtick to every single table in the joint. The Menu is mediocre at best! My sister and niece both ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. My niece asked if she could have hers with bacon, and the server looked at her as if she had just asked him to come up with a cure for cancer. He told her that he couldn't do it and that if she wanted to have bacon on her sandwich she would have to order a side and put it on herself. Seriously?! You just missed out on charging us an extra $3? Seriously?! I don't get it! The sandwich was a letdown, especially since it was described to be something fantastic. It had three little slices of jalapeño peppers on it, which was supposed to be something super special, but it really wasn't. Might I suggest you just throw in a slice of pepper jack cheese amongst the rest of the cheap "government" cheese you used to make the sandwich? The fries were right off the back of a Sysco truck, so nothing special there! All in all, the menu and its items were disappointing. The Prices....seem fair until the food arrives. The food is honestly nothing to write home about and certainly not worth driving out of your way for. Coming from the Twin Cities we have fabulous restaurants that offer great breakfast and lunch choices and they even serve burgers 7 days a week....not just Monday's like Delta! What is that about? If you are reading this review and want to drive out of your way head to Stillwater, MN and eat at The Oasis Café...it is AMAZING! I really don't have anything to say about there "tipping or no-tipping" policy, other than the fact that they seem to be pretty proud of it. News flash....I would be willing to pay more for really good food and I always tip 20% for really great service....so why don't you just focus on that and stop trying to be so "different". Your restaurant doesn't warrant the attitude....it really isn't that good! read more

Delta diner is always great. They offer well executed timeless classics and unique delicious specials. Like many restaurants, they've been forced to make accommodations, but their food still holds up. Its really difficult to do take out or curbside French fries and they're as good as it gets. It's also refreshing to have a north woods restaurant taking the health of their employees and community into consideration. read more

The service and food here is really great. It was everything I had expected and more. I had the French Toast which was excellent and my husband had the perch BLT which was equally as good. Worth the drive out in the country as it made for a beautiful drive. The setting is Northwoods but the diner is retro and a very fun place to eat. If you're driving through Northern Wisconsin, make sure Delta Diner is on your route! My husband and I stopped here on our drive back to Madison from the Apostle Islands. We had the stuffed hash brown, daily special which was a pecan crusted walleye sandwich, and a chocolate malt. Everything was delicious but the stuffed hash brown especially stood out! I really appreciated their strict COVID precautions. We felt very safe sitting on their outdoor patio. I also like their philosophy of paying all their servers a living wage. Great breakfast, had a burrito wrapped in a omelet that was very good(wish it was shredded beef vs ground beef), Norwegian pancakes were great with no toppings--kinda sweet and crunchy! Service was impeccable. I am seriously in love! I have wanted to make my way to the Delta Diner for over a year... I had heard the food was great, the location unique, and the staff charming. I had HUGE expectations that were actually exceeded!!! We stopped in on Monday afternoon for their signature burgers. OMG! I had a peppery beef patty with marinated/sauteed mushrooms merged with melted cheese on top of fresh baked buns. I splurged and ordered the onion rings as well. Delicious! Besides the food, I was most impressed with the staff's hospitality. As soon as we entered this Retro and oh-so-cute establishment, we were warmly greeted and asked if it was our first time. Because it was, we got the full rundown on the menu and extras. Every staff member seemed to really love being here... almost as much as I did... I work in hospitality and I have to say, this visit helped refill my customer service "cup" (which was running dry after a busy winter season). One last note... they said there is a 1-2 hour wait in the summertime to get a table. Normally, I would avoid such a busy place in it's prime season. However, I really want to go back in July to get the full experience. I will sit outside, sip a coffee drink from next door, & take in all the natural beauty of the Delta, WI, location. read more

The best breakfast sandwich I have ever had! I would highly recommend going out of your way to experience this restaurant. It was hard to find. Put Mason WI in GPS instead of Iron River and it should make it easier. They offered good, personable service and had an eclectic mixture of clientele that were hipsters, locals, Harley riders, mountain and road bicyclists, guys on ATVs, two guys on old Honda mini bikes, and families with toddlers like us. We had two vehicles because we were camping and I drove the SUV with boat trailer. I asked the Bayfield County Sheriff's deputy and he said it was fine to park near the road in front of the other cars. That made it super convenient. Thanks B.C.S. Department. I don't understand the allure of this place. In the middle of nowhere. Long wait. Average (at best) food. My eggs over easy were not runny. The hash browns tasted like they'd been soaking in butter all morning. The menu is handed down in oral tradition. Takes quite awhile for the server to describe every item on the menu. You'll drive a long way through rural Wisconsin to get to this place and when you see the little silver diner in set in a small clearing in the middle of the forest, you may wonder if it didn't fall off the back of a passing 747. What else could explain its presence here? The food is good, but the sheer novelty of a shiny new 50's style diner in the middle of nowhere nearly overshadows it. The secret is out though, so expect plenty of company. Still, this is one of my favorite places in the Northwoods and a go to joint when company is in town. It never disappoints.
