The Delta staff at Norfolk International Airport went above and beyond during an unexpected delay. Our flight from New Orleans to JFK had to make a detour and land in Virginia due to ice and snow on the ground, and the aircraft wasn't equipped for such a long delay. The team in Norfolk stepped in immediately, bringing pizza pies and cases of water for everyone on board and making sure passengers were taken care of. Their kindness, organization, and genuine concern turned a stressful situation into the best experience we've ever had during a delay. Truly outstanding customer service. This week I will log my two millionth mile on Delta. Over the past 30 years I've had my share of frustrating flight delays and cancellations - too many to mention - however when travelling over 100k miles per year I've learned those are just part of the process. What stands out to me about Delta is that I chose them as my airline all those many years ago (I went to high school about a mile from the current southernmost runway at ATL) and it seems that they are always working to get better and better at taking care of me. Thank you Delta! read more

My most recent experience with Delta departing from Norfolk was by far the worse ever at this airport and deserved a negative update. My flight was due to depart at 535 AM for LGA and ended up departing at 145 PM. No weather issues that I'm aware of, but I understand domino affects from other areas. However, even Delta reported no weather. The communication was excellent on the delay prior to arrival. It adjusted the time to 830. So it still was a 5 hour delay. The gate was a disaster! Delta did send an email apology and travel voucher for $30. For that I spared them and writing a 2 star update as opposed to a 1. Unfortunately they can all have a bad day. I will continue to fly Delta and hope they have a better day. read more

Worst travel experiences in my life from these incompetent, lazy, morons. Do not fly Delta, especially from ORF. Employees make themselves scarce in the midst of the constant delays and cancellations, screwing over anyone needing assistance with fixing itineraries. Cannot express how dismal and miserable the travel experience is with Delta. read more

All in all my experience with a Delta Airlines was quite positive. Most impressive, on their commuter contract carrier, although not a Delta Airlines accomplishment, the seat quality was the same as that of the main line delta Airlines aircraft. I flew from JFK to SFO on a Boeing 767 that should definitely have been relegated to The airplane boneyard. This aircraft was truly a relic. That said, my seat near the back of coach, I have absolutely zero status with Delta Airlines, was surprisingly comfortable. The seat was not completely worn out and crushed flat like so many I experience on other airlines. I did not have added legroom, but the amount of leg room was more than adequate. I'm accustomed to flying United Airlines in premium economy where they claim to give you extra legroom. The Wi-Fi was abysmal. As a T-Mobile customer one gets free Wi-Fi on board Delta Airlines. That's certainly a great benefit. But the Wi-Fi failed through more than 70% of the flight. I would rather pay and have reliable Wi-Fi. When it was working it was slow. The cabin crew were outstanding. They all seemed to like their jobs and no one seemed bitter. Boarding at JFK was chaos. Like many other airlines, Delta boards by status. But unlike some of the other airlines, United for example, they still have names for all of their status levels versus just boiling it down to boarding group one through five. That causes a lot of confusion, especially when you have a lot of foreign passengers. That said, despite the chaos in the boarding area, they cleared the jetway pretty fast and got everyone seated. Baggage claim at San Francisco International Airport went without a hitch. Unfortunately, airlines somewhat trap you with their frequent flyer programs. As of today I have a whopping 6,000 mi flown on Delta. Conversely, I have almost a million and a half miles flown on United. I'm not sure I could endure being a full-time Delta passenger with absolutely no Delta status. My 5 and 1/2 hour Coast to Coast flight might be as much as I can take without any lounge access or priority seating. read more

Really pissed right now. Delta 5348 from ny to norfolk fine flight. But stuck on ground in norfolk. Concourse empty of aircraft except for the one assigned to us which has a plane in it. We are sitting here 20 mins already waiting. Where is the love for passengers? Easy fix. Move us into another gate. CMON Delta! read more

Tried inquiring to buy a ticket at the Norfolk ORF Delta counter. Proceeded to have the most inappropriate encounter I've ever had with a stranger. Ticket agent, Anijah, answered my questions with venom and hostility, and when I repeated my question, she ignored me, called up the next person in line, refused ti share her name, and when I asked for her supervisor, tersely responded, "They're busy." The other ticket agent hailed the supervisor, who was very professional and apologetic. We went with United nonetheless. read more

This airline is the worst. They are beyond unreliable. their excuses for cancellations are flimsy at best. Honestly, Breeze is the only airline worth flying anymore. Allegiant is also pretty good. read more

If I could give this airline a negative 10, I would. After being told numerous times to come back for my seat assignment, she became annoyed and told me, "here is your ticket, you can get your next one in Atlanta". She then proceeded to rip it up and threw it in the garbage. Do better Delta! This is a revision because my first one was removed! read more

My last airport/flying experience was 20+ years ago. While my last experience was good, two decades later I had no intention of flying on a plane if any other method of transportation was possible - certainly not during a pandemic. Unfortunately, a relative passed away an we needed to travel for the funeral. I am incredibly grateful that everything went well with the Delta Airlines experience. This travrel took place during a time that we didn't need any challenges or for anything to go wrong. We are incredibly grateful for a positive Delta experience. read more

Delta is my primary and always number one choice for airline travel. I've been loyal to them for about the past 6 years and have seen massive improvements in their customer service and the customer experience. Their app was one of the first to offer you real-time bag tracking so you can see each and every time it is scanned going on and off a plane. And the time. The app also has a pop up alert on your phone when your bags are loaded on the plane. You can't beat that! I typically fly priority, I'm a silver medallion and I am TSA Pre. So I've tried to minimize the pain in any way I can. Delta has good employees at this airport location who are friendly and helpful and flights are normally boarded quickly and on time. The planes are well-kept and, for the most part, recently updated compared to other airlines I fly for work sometimes. I've flown domestically all over the USA with Delta and their hub in Atlanta is nice. Recently, I flew Delta to Japan and back and had an excellent experience. Flights were on time with no issues and service was attentive. The app is fantastic and makes life so much easier. You can view and change or even upgrade from the app, you can browse flights and purchase tickets, you get real time updates pushed to your phone for gate changes and you can check in and view your boarding pass. I love it and couldn't live without it. It's by far the nicest of all airline apps currently that I've seen. Plus, their rewards program is fabulous. I upgraded my seats for my longer flights to Japan and was able to sit on an exit row for both and used my rewards points. Awesome! Delta is doing it right. read more

Anyone going to America, never ever ever fly with Delta , esp for important trips. They have lost our bags, broken expensive luggage, changed our flight so many times and cannot even upgrade, give a voucher or apologise. We booked to go for a key family wedding. All of the decor and outfits in our suitcase. They put our luggage on the wrong flight so it was delayed by 3 days (thankfully we arrived a week early). Then when the bags arrived, 3 out of 4 wheels were gone on an £800 suitcase?! No compensation, no apology. Throughout all of this, they have changed the layover flights soooo many times that we would definitely have missed a flight if we did not complain. Then on our way back when we did complain, a service rep rebooked us but "forgot" to issue the ticket so we got to the gate and had no flight on the system. After finally getting a flight home, they couldn't even apologise or upgrade us; in fact, they tried to DOWNgrade us from our original flight class. Delta you will pay for your crimes. Seems like we really like flying Delta, the staff is always polite and we barely have any issues. We have flown first class a couple of times and I strongly recommend if you ever get a chance to upgrade, please do so. The best part of flying is having our TSA PreCheck, it's the best $100 we spent. We like using the Delta App for check in and having your boarding pass right in the Wallet app. I would like to see the airlines have wipes handy for snack times and for keeping the trays clean. I take business trips monthly and usually fly with another airline. I recently flew Delta and it was a ritually different experience. Flights were never cancelled the 2 times I flew and there is no set seats so you can sit where your comfortable. The staff was friendly and the flight was smooth. The only thing that was a downfall would be no direct flight to my destination. Thank you for a safe and happy travel experience. read more

Top notch votes for me, maybe not such a great vote from the guy who I cut in line. I have Platinum Medallion elite status with Delta and when there are separate lines for ticket agents, I'm going to be standing in the line for such customers. And today when I got in the line, I was the only one there. As opposed to a half dozen or so passengers in the economy line. So I didn't *expect* to be next but when the ticket agent called next and the guy in the economy line went forward, she stopped him and had me go forward instead. Woot. That's why I fly Delta - they do recognize that there are customers who give them their business over and over, so they do what is possible to keep these loyal customers. Out at the gate, the gate agents were police and efficient and did a great job getting passengers off the delayed inbound as quickly as possible so that the rest of us going outbound could get going. And yes, they board "Sky Priority" customers ahead of the customers who are not "preferred." read more

I thoroughly enjoy flying Delta! Economy isnt so super tiny that you feel like you're speed dating with your neighbor. The seats are more comfortable than other airlines I've flown. Seats have ac and USB plugs so you can charge devices. The mid and larger size planes have tvs at each seat. I had fun watching previews to the movies available. The diversity of the flight crew is nice to see. Delta attendants are all so nice and helpful. Food and drink service was great. I love that they have several snack choices, you are not just stuck with pretzels! Biscoff cookies, Kind brand granola bars, and snack mix plus non alcoholic beverages including Starbuck coffee. Wish the other domestic airlines would be like Delta. read more

Flying cross country on four planes round trip. Personnel was helpful and considerate. The only issue I had was the repeated offer to gate check luggage for free and also give priority boarding to those same people. Even though I only use carryon size luggage I check it because I do not want to delay boarding lifting it into the overhead because I require help due to disabilities. Ever flight I witnessed loading on my trip offered free gate check and priority boarding when I paid for those privileges. My feed should be refunded for planning ahead. Since this is obviously an issue each flight Delta should limit all basic passengers to one carryon for under the seat. People were obviously waiting for the free and priority boarding so they did not have to pay. My flight next month is with American because it is cheaper for the upgraded seat and not have to pay for baggage. read more

It's hard for me to give any airline a rating above 3 Stars. The excessive fees, crappy frequent flyer programs (especially compared to past offerings) and continually overbooking flights usually adds up to a 2 Star rating but somehow Delta pulls it off. Customer Service: I understand the difficulties associated with customer service, and long shifts. Coupled together, and you're going have some customers encountering a grouch at the end of the shift. Yet, Delta, and Southwest, seem to have this problem far less than others. Good on them and us! Baggage: Haven't lost a bag yet (knock on wood) and on the few occasions Ido check a bag the wait time at the baggage carousel seems less much than other airlines. Aircraft: I can't comment on leg room because it stinks so much with all airlines I just pay the difference for upgrade. Still it feels a bit roomier with Delta's newer fleet of planes...and I appreciate it. Crew: I like how the pilots keep quite. I never liked the dissertation on the flight path or what I can't see out of a tiny window. Thankfully I don't get it too often with Delta. As for the attendants? Well I think they understand what matters most for frequent flyers like myself. Quick on and off load, quick drink service and coming by to pick up the trash soon after finishing delivering the snacks. All big bonus points for Delta. I also like the bringing by of water and/or coffee a 2nd or 3rd time on longer flights. I hate to say it but how polite an attendant is to me is 2ndry to their efficiency. Heck, I usually can't deal with the continually talking or movement of the person next to me. I can't imagine what these folks have to deal with on a daily basis after long shifts...so I'll cut them, all airline flight attendants, some slack. Overall: Delta is usually on time with good prices and some of the best service in the industry so I'm giving my highest airline score for airlines of 4 Stars. Now time to get back to my work on my flight to ATL. read more

I was very recently on vacation with the hubs on Grand Cayman when what you never want to happen happened. The hub put his back out....many firsts followed. His first ambulance ride, his first trip to a foreign hospital and his first trip home in complete agony. I alerted Delta that we would need a wheel chair and assistance hoping for the best. What I got was OUTSTANDING. There was a wheel chair waiting at GCM,a wheel chair waiting at ATL with a smiling face to help us cut to the front of the line at customs and a wheel chair waiting at ORF. What could have been a nightmare turned out to be as pleasant as possible. Thank you, Delta. read more

Where do I start? How do I count their ways? This airline is the pits from late flights, rude flight attendants, and broken promises to customers. More frequently than not when using this airline, they are delayed for some reason or other. My husband missed flights because of their error. He was in the terminal for 24 hours straight and they promised to get him a room which they did not do. My son experiences the same thing when using them. When possible, we avoid using them. It is hit or miss with the flight attendants. Some are fantastic while others are just neglectful and mean-spirited. read more

So, to start I am a fairly frequent flyer - currently maintaining Gold status with Delta, United and American (on American that the basic elite level). However, Delt ais by far my favorite. The others are mainly because of routings and partner airlines or significantly better pricing but when I can, I book Delta. Issues happen but it is how they respond that always has me appreciating Delta over the competition. For example, I booked a last minute ticket this past week and was stuck in a middle seat. I understood the issue (traveling on a Monday following Thanksgiving weekend was sure to result in crowded airplanes and terminals as well as harried crew and gate agents). Stuck in a middle seat from Atlanta to Seattle was a miserable experience but then a passenger became ill and they had to discontinue any service to care for him - very understandable of course. When service sort of resumed (the "cart" never made an appearance), the flight attendants were passing out free drinks and food to passengers to apologize for the lack of service during the first 2.5 hours - completely unnecessary under the circumstances but a very nice gesture. Then today, I received a second surprise, prompting this review - a gift of 500 miles for being an elite flyer stuck in a middle seat. Delta knows how to treat its elite and non-elite flyers alike, and that is why I continue to find them the best US domestic airline. read more

Planned my move from California to Virginia and decided to check my bags. Huge mistake! Apparently my bags never even made it on the flight. I'm baffled by the fact that I spent $30 to not have any clothes or any personal belonging my first night in Virginia. It was a very uncomfortable spot to be in. Honestly, if I would have known the outcome, I would have carried my bags. I saw individuals taking way more than a carry on and personal item. This really makes me upset because why should I have to pay $30 and other people get to avoid the rules. Delta really needs to enforce their rules. They're there for a reason. read more

UPDATE: Delta Air Lines has offered a total compensation of $650 and a $300 airline voucher, which we will most assuredly not be using after this experience. The value of the items that Delta Air Lines lost is actually over $2800 - a larger claim than most because of the extended timeframe of the deployment, and the bag contained a large amount of gifts/household items/military goods. We are now in the process of filing a lawsuit against them for the return of our property or the full balance worth of items that were lost. Please feel free to share our story! TLDR//: mil family has to sue Delta because they won't pay for the bag they lost over 8 mos ago Husband got home from a lengthy deployment in July 2020. Found out that somewhere along the way, Delta had lost his bag, the one that he had been living out of for months so it was chock full of uniforms, personal items, etc. Eight months later, we are now THREE claims in, two digital and one physical paper copy (because Delta kept telling us they had "lost" our claim), and have received no payment or updates. We have contacted base legal to try and settle things amicably, but again, no action/response from Delta. The next steps are SUING DELTA for the cost of the lost bag and its contents. For shame. A multibillion dollar company can't figure out how to recompense a military family in the middle of a pandemic in which families, including ours, are struggling with finances and job loss. It's been 8 months, and we can't afford to not be paid for what Delta lost. Eight months of being ignored and patronized. Sounds like a nice way to pay back a military member, right? I explained that even though my ID says I'm reserve I am flying on orders and handed her the orders. She argued with me and was extremely rude during the entire engagement. Under this mentality next they will ban your earbuds so that you'll have to buy their products for inflight entertainment.
