If you live in Cobble Hill or are in the area, this is a must go-to stop on your route to wherever you may be going. We go there at least once a week to stock up. Their selection is top notch. Their prepared foods are absolutely delicious (we love the rotisserie chicken w/ Brussels OR the buffalo chicken wings during football season). And they will go above and beyond to provide impeccable service. They even treated my wife and I to a dinner on the house after our new born arrived - who does that anymore??? So yeah, I don't usually post on yelp or review sites in general, but this place is so great that I even signed up just to review it. If I had to, for some life threatening reason, describe DellaPietra's product in one word, it would be "Glorious." If by chance I was given a few moments to talk about it, I'd most likely say this: The beef at DellaPietra's is what real beef is. Other "steaks" cower and wither before the awesome dry-aged wrath of these cows which must have been raised in God's own pasture eating some dank grass. It's gamey, it's earthy, it's an atomic umami bomb that melts in your mouth like no other meat has before. It's mad expensive, but yo, that's the real cost of real beef, and this is the realest beef you will ever get. Even if you were to raise a cow as lovingly as possible, you still wouldn't be even near the quality of this steak. It is expensive but you get what you pay for and the guys working there don't just know about the meat but really care about it too so will happily discuss how to prepare and cook what you are buying. They will also make suggestions if you are undecided. As well as the high quality produce, they also make their own kebabs, patties and sausages in addition to the deli bar, all of which have been consistently delicious. This Butcher shop was such an awesome experience. Jose was so helpful in picking out what meats to buy that would impress my guest. We went with a flank stake and a porterhouse. Simply AMAZING! He was so helpful to write down the time on how long to cook each stake on both sides and gave me some good tips on how to keep the stakes stored for longer lasting freshness :) My new neighborhood butcher shop. I'm very happy to have discovered this place. My old butcher (who had become a good friend) has gone out of business. It's been no easy task finding similar high quality and service. Delapietra's is expensive, but not unreasonably so. I know the wholesale cost of prime and heritage meats, and the rents in Brooklyn ... the only choices are charge a lot, or go out of business (see above). I found them while looking for someone who would dry age a big piece of prime chuck. My plan was to cut into steaks, cook sous-vide for two days, and serve at a dinner party in the middle of the woods. I couldn't find anyone else who would age this cut for me. Rob Delapietra did it enthusiastically. He offered a lot of advice about which section of the chuck, had me watch while he cut it, and said he'd monitor the progress and keep me updated. And he gave me a great deal for ordering so much at once. The location isn't particularly convenient for me, but I'll be back whenever I need something special. read more

I have only tried the bacon a few times, but I must say it is amazing. They are real nice inside and seem to take great pride in their food. Super pricey ($15 a pound for bacon). Not too much selection, but totally worth it. I took off 1 star because I didn't notice hand washing or gloves after using the cash register. Came in because I wanted a delicious gourmet dinner without all the prep. I cooked the half marinated chicken exactly as the owner advised- it was beyond perfection, meat fell of the bone and perfectly herbed crispy skin. Also served a few meatballs (mindblowing), and a kale salad that I crisped up in the oven with the chicken for a bit. BOOM amazing restaurant quality meal with 1/2 hour prep and zero guess work. I started going the day they opened and this is by far the best butcher in the tri-state area if not the East Coast. All of the cuts of meat are amazing, and Rob and his crew will tell you how to cook season, cook and cut the meat, they are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I walked in yesterday for the first time, although I've passed it nearly every week since it opened. Wandering around, I stopped by the prepared foods case to examine its offerings, and was immediately asked how I could be helped by a lovely man. I said I was just looking, and he grinned and told me to take my time and let him know if I needed anything. After walking to the raw meat case, I was again engaged in conversation with another man. I settled on the bone-in ribeye, and when I couldn't figure out how much to buy, they both helped me. Long story short(er), I walked out with 2.5# of ribeye, a quart of kale salad, and then they threw in a lard bread for free. They told me how to cook it, entertained me with stories, and told me they deliver and gave me a card. They could not have been nicer than they were. Dinner was absolutely delicious, my husband was thrilled, and I'm addicted to the kale salad. While it's not cheap, having the perfect meal is worth paying for. And then my husband did all the dishes, including the cast iron pan. Clearly, he was thrilled, too. read more

This is really a special place to enjoy probably the best sandwich in Brooklyn. Richard, the sandwich artist takes his job seriously, and crafts something that takes skill and patience to create. Every time rich makes us one of his creations, he surprises us with suggestions and variations on their standard sandwiches that really push them to the next level of sandwitchdom! My favorite piece of beef is the skirt steak and as we were greeted by the 2 "incredibly Brooklyn" butchers at the counter, they were ready to shower us with information on every single product within this location. That alone made me want to spend my hard earned greenbacks. I find that the absolute best services in the world have learned from the lessons of NYC quality of service & this butcher shop is on the front-line. My lady who was immediately ready to buy everything listened to what she "needed" and we spent a good amount for some incredibly delicious pork chops, skirt steaks & peppered bacon. Everything was incredibly delicious. They were incredibly resourceful when it came to cooking the items purchased to our specific needs. Dellapietras is more expensive than your supermarket meat but you're not just paying for a product, you're paying for expertise. The guys behind the counter (and yes, they're all men) know their dead animal parts and how to cook them. They can advise you on cuts, quantities, cooking times, and portions. They offer tips as to marinades and seasonings. Best of all, they do the basics for you. You want lamb? You want it bone in or out? Out? they separate the meat for for you. In? They trim the fat - but not all the fat. Want it cubed? They start carving. I've never tried their cooked food, but the stuff they sell looks great. I've also never gone for their grains, pastas, or oils. But I don't really have any questions about rice, penne, or EVOO. I have a lot of questions about animal protein, and these guys have answers. read more

This place seems kind of like a boys club - funny I feel like every time I go I've seen only male customers in here - so I get why sometimes the vibes might seem a bit unfriendly. But in fact the butchers here are friendly and attentive, curious to know what you're making with the meat and willing to strike up conversations. A couple of days ago I went to purchase some pork belly and I asked for the meat to be cut in thin 1/4 inch strips. I don't go often, it is not the cheapest place to get your meat, but when it is an occasion or you are looking for a good meal, this is the place to come. One of my goto things to buy is the London Broil Flank Steak. It is like a flank steak but better. You can't go wrong with this cut. It marinates well and is so flavorful and juicy. Since it is the holiday season I also bout a Prime Rib Roast for 2. As he was cutting it, you could see the marbleization of the meat. I can't wait to make it tonight. The other great thing about this place is that they will tell you how to cook the cuts you buy. We came across them at the Atlantic antic fair. They were selling some fried balls and cheeses etc. We asked if it has meat, the server says no. As soon as we break a piece off, there was something that resembles meat. We went back again and asked if there is meat, the server said no and when we showed it to them, they just callously brush off saying 'it might have got in there by mistake'. It takes a lot of chutzpah to open a butcher shop close to Los Paisanos, which I rank as the city's best. And considering the proximity to venerable Staubitz, a double dose. Dellapietra's survives and thrives because of superb quality meat. On my most recent visit I went with a bone-in rib eye for two that ran about $65 (and not a giant tomahawk, just a thick rib steak). Three small rib veal chops were about $85, as they ran $36.00 a pound. To relieve the sting, the counterman comped me to a package of coffee cake. It was quite good. Eating the meats eased the sting a little more. The veal chops were especially flavorful, pounded slightly and plainly grilled. The rib steak was everything this cut should be, fatty flavorful, and tender. Some reviewers say it's cheaper than Lobel's. I haven't frequented that establishment recently enough to say, but your wallet takes a hit here. read more

They have a beautiful selection of meats and the service is fantastic. You can come in and talk with the butchers about what you like to eat and cooking experience. The butchers will make suggestions as to what to get and how to cook it. I've had a skirt steak suggested as a lower cost steak and it was delicious. I have also had the osso buco and the butcher tied it up nicely so it would cook evenly and made a suggestion for how to cook it. Everything has turned out amazing since we started with high quality meats. Sure the meats are expensive, but that's what to expect from a high quality full service butcher shop. I have tried every cut of meat from here and all i can say if you love dry aged , prime, organic locally harvested meat this is the place for you. Amazing service. I was making. German dish, Rouladen, and shopping on December 23rd for my beef. Everywhere had crazy long lines and our grocery store wasn't sure what I was talking about when I tried to describe the specific cut of beef I would need. The guys at Dellapietras also did not know what Rouladen were either but went above and beyond to figure it out and got me exactly what I needed. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful. Della Pietra's is simply the best butcher in the area. My first visit was when they just opened. I asked what was something good for two people - they recommended their London broil. I won't lie, when I walked out I thought "that was the most expensive london broil I have ever bought". As I walked home I said to my wife "we probably won't be going back because of the cost" - that was before we ate it. I prepared it and we enjoyed every last bite. So much so that we have it almost once a week. I hesitate to say how great that piece of meat is because now I worry it will perpetually be sold out. But it was worth every penny. For New Years I bought some Short Ribs. Now this is what makes DP's great, they trim the meat before they weigh it. So what you are buying is all edible. They take such pride in what they do that it shows in their service and their products. Oh and the Short Ribs... I don't have the words for how good they were in the Ragu I made that night. Don't get me started on their bacon. Ask for it thick cut. I have been a long time customer of Los Paisanos on Smith which I would gladly give 4 stars but I am now a loyal customer of Dell Pietras. Both places are great but DP's simply stands above all the rest. Well deserving of the fifth star. 100 Point Wine Dinner - Had the wine, needed meat to compete. Up from Baltimore walking down Atlantic Ave. Dellapietras, found the meat. Love at first sight. Sometimes you just know it's right. THESE ARE THE BEST STEAKS EVER! Big Green Egg. Lump charcoal. Turned often. Seared. Juicy, rare. Amazing. Kudos to Jose, Professor of Aged Beef (all the guys are knowledgeable, helpful and patient). He gave me on incredible education. The steaks (bone in single rib ribeyes) were professionally and, dare I say, lovingly cut and prepared. This guy knows his stuff! I'd become a regular here but today that changed. i asked for four tenderloin steaks 1.5" thick. was given four 1.75 - 2" thick steaks and told that's the way they r "supposed to be, 8 ounces each." I like my fillet mignon/tenderloin steaks 1.5" thick and with the $39'ish price tag per pound, recon i should be able to get what i ask for not given what they'd prefer to sell me. if can only buy a full centre cut piece of meat and not buy per steak - please just say so. Don't just cut the full piece into four steaks that are much thicker than i asked for and tell me "that's the way they are supposed to be." Back to Fleishers I go where they measure the steak and cut it to exactly what I want, they never worry if there might be only an inch thick steak left of the full piece they cut from and their centre cut tenderloin is $33.99/pound.
