I love a lot of things about DellaPietra's. I love the excellent balsamic vinegars and olive oils available. I love the bread, the sauces, the cheeses. I love the space, as well as the convenient Atlantic Ave location. I love the customer service; they are friendly and knowledgable. I love how they know excellent recipes to use with their products. I love their selection of all sorts of fancy salts (although 10$ is a lot to pay for a small vial of salt, even if it is pink.) Unfortunately, I won't be able to call DellaPietra's my meat shop because I'm not one of the Brooklyn Heights residents that live in the double brownstones with the views of Manhattan that cost $9 million, or whoever it is that can afford to pay $40/lb. for their steaks, even if they are dry-aged, prime cuts. Until I am one of those people (by my calculations, I should make it by some time around February 2237), I'll content myself with the occasional bottle of balsamic. read more

The highest quality of beef around but more importantly the best and most professional customer service. I randomly wandered past this place on my walk and I'm glad I did. Everyone was super friendly and helpful so I ended up getting a 4.5lb rib roast. The gentleman helping offered to cut the rib bones out and tie it back on which ive never had done before. Buying meat here costs a pretty penny, but its worth it for the special occasions!  On my first visit last year, my husband and I were on the hunt for a nice dry aged rib eye.  We picked up a 60-80 day bone-in rib eye, and my God, it was so incredibly delicious!!!!  We were told to sear it on a hot pan, 3-3-3-3 minutes on each side (total 6 minutes each side).   After trying dry aged beef in several restaurants (and not really understanding why people rave about dry aged, because it all tasted the same), this did it for me.  It tasted richer, meatier, and most importantly I could taste the blue cheesy funk.  I was in heaven.  This did have a hefty price tag though, coming in at about $37/lb for 60-80 days.  Over the next few months, we decided we would try dry aged from a few different butchers.  Maybe we could find a steak, just as deliciously funky, at a lower price tag. We checked out 2 grocers: Whole Paycheque & Citarella, as well as Paisano's, and a few other famous bitcher shops.  The price point seemed to hover from $23-$28 for 21-28 day aged steak which seemed to be the average age, some a bit longer.  These were perfectly nice ribeyes.. but I didn't taste the gaminess.  Again, it felt like a nice plain rib eye.. just without the age. Another thing to note, you would think that the longer the age, the strong/better the taste, but not always so! I've had a 45 day, as well as 120 day from EMP. Again, while it tasted nice, with some mild tinges of funk, I didn't find it anywhere as impressive as Dellapietras. Lesson learned for me - I used to think that the longer age automatically means it tastes better, but there are other factors (process? meat quality?) that affect the final product So while $37/lb is definitely on the higher end, I totally get it. Its pricey (1.5 lbs for bone-in rib eye between 2 people coming in at $60), but totally worth it.  Which ever method these guys are using to drying age their meat, they are doing it right.  This really set the bar high, and I think it will be hard to find another butcher (or steakhouse) to match this.  I still do buy from other places, just to see!  But then I'm reminded again about why Dellapietras is so good.  On our most recent visit, we went for the dry aged NY strip, which was $42/lb.  Yikes... but the butcher didn't steer us wrong. It was a great recommendation, and I'm excited to come back again for the next steak night. read more

I get intimidated walking in butcher shops because I don't know what cut of meat I should get for the recipe I looked up online. Jose was very welcoming and made sure I had the right cut for every recipe I was going to cook. He even looked at the recipe I'm making to make sure he gives me the right cut for my Laing, and suggested a different cut for my beef soup because clearly, im clueless. The quality and preparation of their meat is simply superior. They are like mad scientists of dry-aging, and it shows in every cut I've bought. I am happy to pay for quality. Some solid cuts of meat but overpriced and overrated. Don't let the trying-too-hard decor fool you. Service is quick but overbearing and inflexible -- the employees all seem to be trying to impersonate lower level crew members from The Sopranos. If you really want to invest in a high-end butcher, do it right and go to Japan Premium Beef (the new Brooklyn location is about 10 minutes by car) where the quality is on another planet from this place. read more

Except the herbivores of this world, everyone loves a good steak right? So, I'm relatively new to NYC and thankfully, by chance stumbled upon Dellapietras whilst wandering around Atlantic Av. I had a quick nosey and all seemed very impressive. It wasn't until next week however that the desire for steak struck, and so after a quick look on yelp, I saw that people say that DellaPietras is slightly higher priced than your average butchers, but that's exactly the thing, this isn't your average butchers. So, admittedly I went in with a low budget, and after talking to arguably the most helpful butcher I have ever met for a good five minutes about different cuts, he went through the different prices and yeah, you could spend a lot of money in that place, but it would be well worth spending it. So, I went for a $30 hanger steak and it looked fantastic, marbling everywhere and jut the right size for two people with a bit left over for the next day as a snack. I'm sure that if I had gone for the hanger anywhere else, yeah it may have been a bit cheaper, but this thing was AMAZING! Served medium rare (the butcher went through all the steps to create perfection) it was honestly the best steak I've ever cooked. Hell, it was better than a lot of the rib eye and more expensive cuts that I've had! If you ever need good meat, go see the guys in Dellapietras. They are the friendliest bunch and the meat is second to none. Honestly, you won't regret it, and in my eyes, $30 for a steak big enough to feed at least two people, of that quality, is an absolute steal. Thanks guys!! read more

Hands down the best butchers and meats in NYC or Brooklyn. Growing up my Dad was a butcher so I know high quality meat. The service is also top notch. I've been going here for 5 years now and won't go anywhere else. I don't order steak or filet when I go to a restaurant because I know I can get better meat here where I can go home and cook it. They also deliver!!! I work up the block on Montague St for the past 8 years and for some reason just discovered this true gem of a spot on Friday. Best food I've had in the entire area since we moved to Montague St without question. Had the Sausage and Peppers on a Hero on Friday and the Brisket as a platter with Broccoli Rabe and Roasted Potatoes, today. Also, had to try out that delicious looking Chicken Noodle soup and it's easily the best, homemade soup around with just a super clear broth. I could go on and on but I'll digress for now. Dellapietra's is a staple in ALL of NYC and worth traveling to from any borough you are in. I have set out on a mission to complete the Buvette cookbook cover to cover and I was in need of incredible beef for the steak tartare recipe. This is a risky thing to cook at home but I felt safe if I got the meat only from here. Jose at Dellapietra's really hooked me up with the best possible filet and the whole dinner exceeded my expectations! Having someone like Jose help by listening to what I needed and having him source the best thing was so incredibly special and he is truly the BEST. Admittedly the shopkeepers are friendly and nice and the store is very upscale and inviting. And so convenient, as they are right in my hood. The rating is really for my review of just one thing. I went in to buy a piece of guanciale and was very disappointed. I've previously bought guanciale from Dickson's meats (heavenly) at Chelsea Market and there was really no comparison. This one was a wan, sad piece of meat, packaged up by some other distributor and pumped up with nitrites. I used it in some soup and to saute with Kale and bf agreed that the flavor was a bit off and Dickson's guanciale was far more flavorful. I ended up tossing the unused half in the trash. A shame. Perhaps I'll try some of the other products in the store in the future. read more

We have really enjoyed the chicken, prepared hot foods, balsamic and oils as well. Spoiler: This is my favorite butcher shop ever. When I first walked in, I noticed how clean the shop is. The only smell in the air was their delicious prepared foods. On the right you will find the cold cuts, meat dishes to go and sides that vary - I am crazy about their potato salad! You can taste the freshness. They have some crazy pork sandwiches that I tried during one of the Atlantic Avenue street events. On the left you will find burgers and sausages - some of the best I've ever had, and I take barbecuing very seriously. They also have some special meats, such as lamb and duck parts. They also have great chicken. In the back are the stars of the show: STEAK! I have tried different cuts according to the occasion. The guys have always helped me tailor the meats to my needs. I just come in, tell them how many people I am feeding and they figure it out. This level of trust came after many visits, when I realized they were wiling to get me the best bang for my buck.
