Would you recommend for a school function?

I would swing by the truck and ask the daughter if they could facilitate that. It would be perfect for a school function!

After running errands, we drove just six minutes to El Chapin, a Guatemalan restaurant. Forget Tex-Mex--this is a completely different Latin cuisine experience. The two of us spent $76 (including tax and tip), but we intentionally ordered extra to take home leftovers. Parking was easy, right out front, and the restaurant itself is spacious. Since we arrived just a few minutes after opening, we had the place to ourselves at first and were seated immediately. Service was prompt and very helpful--the server even suggested we might have ordered too much food (he was right, but we didn't mind!). Here's what we tried: Plato Chorizo y Longaniza - a sausage platter with salad, rice, refried black beans, and two delicious housemade corn tortillas. Pollo Adobado - marinated chicken with rice, salad, refried black beans and two housemade corn tortillas . Ceviche de Camarón - fresh and tangy, though light on shrimp, which tasted a bit tough Fried Plantains - perfectly done, sweet, and satisfying. Plus, I had an unsweetened iced tea with lemon. The highlights for me were the flavorful rice (with vegetables mixed in, including carrots and squash), the marinated chicken, and the sausages. The plantains were also excellent. The ceviche had great flavor but could've used more shrimp. The only miss for me was the salad--generous in portion but iceberg-based, so a bit bland. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, not heavy or greasy, and we left with enough for another one or two meals. We'll definitely be back.

Los Tres Magueyes - Lots of meat in that Burrito California!

First time visiting Los Tres Magueyes, glad we went! Once…read moreyou're inside, everything around you is bursting with colors and culture, definitely different than brown walls with a few pictures on them. Even the booths were creatively decorated. Our waiter brought us some chips and salsa. The chips were good, they held up well to the salsa and did not break. They probably could have used a bit more salt, but they were very crunchy, not too thick and freshly made. The salsa was ok, not as much flavor and a little thinner consistency than I prefer after visiting some other similar restaurants, but not bad at all. My wife had he Burrito Supremo and I had the Burrito California. Wow, they don't skimp on the portions!!! Large burrito, with lots of meat, I was so happy to see that! Well seasoned meat. I substituted the rice for the beans on my order. The pico de gallo was a nice addition inside of the burrito to cut through some of the heaviness of the meat and cheese, but I felt there was not enough of it. However, I found a solution. The green salad was mainly a mixture of roughly chopped bell pepper, white onion and shredded cheese with a little bit of lettuce. I don't think I could have eaten the salad by itself as I felt the amount of onions was too much on a salad, but I opened the burrito and added the onions and peppers to it and that really helped an already very tasty burrito! The additional flavors from the onion and peppers were great, as well as the texture contrast from the meat. The meat was very tender; there was no chewing on tough steak. The cheese added some richness and fat. My wife echoed my comments about the size of the burrito and the tenderness and flavor of the steak. She also enjoyed the black beans, which had a lot of flavor and mixed well with the rice on the side. We both had leftovers to take with us as there was so much food. It's definitely a good value: reasonable prices, large portions and great tasting dishes. We'll definitely return and make sure to try some new items next time!

It's a typical Mexican restaurant menu, with all of the standards - tacos, burritos, etc. Warm chips and house-made salsa are served at seating. Drinks from the bar are huge. One of the specialty drinks needed re-made because it just wasn't right, but the margaritas are spot-on. Portions are big, food is fresh and served piping hot. Stuffed jalapeños were pretty good, but not sure they are house made. The shrimp burrito is STUFFED with plump, flavorful shrimp and vivid pico de gallo. Refried beans, rice all very good. Definitely will add to the rotation.

Our waitress was awesome, she was friendly and quick with the service. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were delicious. Unfortunately, those were the only two things we enjoyed about Aye Toro. The food was extremely bland, almost flavorless. When my husband and I took our first bites, we both looked up at each other and both knew exactly what the other was thinking. There was no spice, nothing. Mexican food is supposed to be flavorful but this was like...boiled chicken without the spices. For $17 for a plate of bland food, I was super disappointed and felt like I wasted $80 for the night (two meals and two margaritas with a 20% tip). When we come back for trivia, we might stop by for margaritas beforehand but I can't imagine Aye Toro staying in business if they keep serving flavorless meals. I know this review is harsh but spending that kind of money on this lackluster dinner is even harsher.

Additionally, I ordered a corona and since it was draft, not sure it it was or something else, but it didn't taste like a corona I have ever tasted. The service was excellent. We were waiting for the rest of our party of 6, but the server worked with us. Once we ordered the food came out quickly and prepared the way we anticipated. Except, I expected soft tortillas and not crispy. San Jose has Karoke night on Thursdays so it added to the fun. I liked the set up of the dining area. Plus there is outdoor seating but last night would have been dangerous with temps in the mid 30s. Still it was nice time with my kids and grandkids! Thank you San Jose!

I got the Chicken & Spinach enchiladas and a Tamarind Agua Fresca to drink. Both were very good. I did not care for the beans as they were runny and bland. Their chips and salsa are great! On this day there were a couple of large groups at lunch (maybe end of the year parties) and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bar is cool looking and when weather is nice the patio is fun! Again, service was awesome!
