Just price your menu to cover the credit card charge and don't charge extra. It makes the place more of a target for robbery to take cash, and somebody has to make a trip to the bank, so it is not cost free to take cash. You will probably sell more food and drink when it's going on a credit card instead of cash, so the owner benefits from customers using credit cards. Don't punish the customer for eating at your establishment. If our server had asked about which guacamole we wanted and if they did not charge extra for credit cards, I would give them 5 stars. Food and service were good. But as it is, I will give them 4 stars. Total for 3 lunches and one 14.00 guacalmole = 44.73 + 3.68 tax + 1.57 charge for credit card = 49.99. To their credit, the tip amounts shown for 18, 20 and 22% are calculated on the food and drink subtotal, 44.73, not on the total. I really hate it when restaurants sugges I should tip on tax and especially if they suggest I should tip on a fee for a credit card.
