Last weekend on a trip to Sacramento, I finally had a chance to stop by their Olive Mill and Winery. There is a nice sparking clean outdoor patio with picnic tables within a few steps from the olive oil grove but it was a bit hot that day so we opted to sit inside. In addition to the olive oil tasting set, there were some brunch items such as a crostini and salad as well as a Mediterranean plate with hummus. We opted for the crostini, olive oil tasting and a cappuccino. The jalapeño olive oil was unique and flavorful enough that we bought a couple bottles of it to take home. The pear vinaigrette was thick and tangy. The waitresses were friendly and helpful when we had a couple questions about the dishes. The shelves in the shop area is full of flavored olive oils and vinaigrette as well as ceramic and a whole slew of items for serving charcuterie. If you are a fan of olive oil and are planning on a trip up to Sacramento or Lake Tahoe, would definitely recommend stopping by to check out Calivirgin.

Stopped in at this winery that I've been noticing every day on my commute out of Escalon and a little upset I didn't stop sooner. We were immediately greeted by one of the stewards the second we walked up to the door. He greeted us with warmth and great enthusiasm. When we entered we couldn't help but notice the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the rustic decor. It gave off a great amount of warmth mixed with some extra coziness. We decided to sit inside although the fire pits outside beckoned my name for future visits. They had a great selection of wines and the stewards were all very welcoming and knowledgeable. Lisa was amazing and so very attentive to us the entire time. We loved that you could also visit the onsite market to grab items to munch on. You can personalize your own charcuterie board to enjoy with your wine. We loved our visit here so much that we decided to become members and will definitely be making many more visits ahead! We tasted, we loved, we committed!

If you plan to do a tasting here, Saturday is the only day they are available without a reservation. Because of that, I was worried it would be packed, but when we arrived, it was definitely smaller than I expected and not super busy. They are dog friendly which is always a plus for me and my pup even got to meet another very sweet senior dog while we were there which made my visit even more enjoyable. We did not stay for a tasting that day, but I was able to find a few bottles that I thought my son would enjoy and purchase them. I was particularly excited for the Bourbon barrel cab, which they had a little bit of difficulty finding but I did ultimately get a bottle. While I was waiting for them to locate it, I was able to look around at some of the awards the winery has received and learned a little bit about them. They focus on small batch wines and experiment with things like the Bourbon barrel aging, which I was quite excited for. I love bourbon. We did end up sampling the bottles over my son's birthday weekend and he has excellent taste. I enjoyed them both. But of course the Cabernet was my favorite. It was smooth and a little bold and definitely different from what I typically drink, but I enjoyed it. Even though we didn't do a full tasting at the winery, I left with a positive impression. It's definitely a place I would recommend to friends or family visiting and I will most likely go back and do a proper sit down and tasting in the near future.
