This is probably the best place to go outside of Columbus if you are within a hour drive of Heath, Ohio. Also they sometimes have selections of guitars and basses that others don't have so it's worth calling to ask if they have it in stock. The biggest selections is Fender and PRS. They also have a good selection of Yamaha, Ibanez, Alvarez, Taylor and Martin. Then some other brands sometimes make their way there. I was lucky to find a Sterling Sting Ray HH4. I am tempted to buy a few PRS core models from them.

Just picked up a french horn that was in the Westerville, Ohio store for an annual maintenance and…read moreother minor repairs. I will never go back. I have had them do annual maintenance on some of my other french horns but some of them also needed to be reworked. On another occasion, they did not align the valves correctly. I should have known better but once again, they did ugly work on a beautiful horn that I play professionally. They did not align the valves properly. I also asked them to fix a dangerous, sharp edge around the hand grip. It was a minor solder job that required no special skills. The area around the solder job is now terribly discolored. That kind of work is caused when the repairman does not clean up the solder and lacquer around the spot. It looks ugly. Now when I take this horn to a gig, I will be ashamed to show the horn to the other musicians in the orchestra. In any case, I will be sure that others know my experience. I live halfway around 270 so it is not an easy trip when I go there. It will not be possible for me to ever sell this horn in its present condition. There was not much of a response from the store personnel either and no one could even said "I'm Sorry"..... I guess the age of common decency is no longer the norm. Now, I must take it to another shop and pay them to clean up the mess left by Music & Arts in Westerville, Ohio. A WARNING TO ANY EDUCATORS IN THE AREA who regularly entrust their school instruments to this operation. They should check their work carefully. My repair cost was over $172.00. Band directors should PLAY their clarinets and other woodwinds carefully when they pick them up. If there are leaking pads or stuck slides in the brass your students may not have enough experience to understand the situation. Your students might not know what to look for. There are other shops in town. Ya just gotta go look for them.

Closer inspection shows that the guitars are mostly Daisy Rock brand -- a brand known mainly for their guitars aimed for teenage girls. Not that there's anything wrong with that...guitar geeks just might be a little disappointed. The remainder of the store is filled with lots of junk (ugh) and some music accessories. A small selection of sheet music (Jonas Brothers and Hanna Montana -- teens still the focus), guitar strings, reeds and the like can be found. All-in-all, Pontones is an a-ok music shop. I just wish they would branch out a bit.
